01 | Leaving The Past
<TEKKAN>
"Sir, " I greeted, shoving my hands deep within my pockets. "You called for me?"
The slightly plump man nodded rapidly, several beads of sweat clinging to his brow. "You- And five others."
"I don't understand," I said simply, eyes flicking across the room to hover over the scatter of papers littered across the floor. The fan ruffled them a bit, the edges curling upwards before I focused on him again.
"Recently there's been a new group of Marines created," he chattered, and I sighed, my hand that I had lifted from my pocket tangling deep with my silver hair. "You've been selected to be the leader of that group."
I narrowed my eyes, catching on to the last sentence. "... What?"
"They're called Tyrhungs. They sail the sea acting like pirates so they can capture them," he mumbled, and I took a step forward, staring the short man down as I pondered the idea.
He stumbled back, as if he was afraid of me. I cocked a brow, my lips worming into a small, amused smile. "Very well," I said finally. "I'll accept. Who are the other five members?"
Releasing a shrill squeak of glee, he scurried to the small table shoved in the corner, sorting through the endless amount of papers before bringing one to eye-level. "Here it is!" he ran back to me, stealing a pen off the desk and eagerly shoving the paper directly in front of my face.
I squinted, trying to read the tiny block letters in such close-range, then gave up and snatched it from his hands.
"Am I supposed to sign?"
His head bobbled up and down as I pressed the thin sheet to my knee and scribbled 'Rixen Tekkan' before he plucked it out of my hands.
"The members, you ask? You'll find out soon enough. Come, come, I'll lead you to them!"
OoO
The man, who I still had no clue what his name was, swung open the door to a small room. My eyes skimmed the couches before lifting to stare into the light-brown eyes of the one who was stretched out lazily upon it.
"TEKI-KUN!"
I sidestepped, my eye twitching as a blur of ginger and purple flew past me, pale things that looked like limbs outstretched before nearly smashing into a wall.
"Chihome," I said slowly, drawing out the vowels. "Will you please explain to me what the flying hell are you doing here?"
My younger sister withdrew herself from the wall, spinning around as she beamed at me. "I was invited to join the Tyrhungs, of course!"
I flashed a dark glare in the man's direction, who merely pressed against the wall some more as he balanced the fish bowl he held in his hands.
"Is this lad our last member?"
I drew my gaze away from him and my sister to glance at the man who had just spoken. He was the one I had first noticed when I had walked in, his light-brown eyes twinkling. He had sun-bleached tousled hair, streaks of brown marring it. Whenever he had brown or blonde, I didn't know.
"Mmmhmm!" Chihome said, sending a bright smile in his direction. "Teki-kun meet Kaori-kun."
Kaori untangled himself from his lanky limbs before sliding off the couch and stalking over to me, his hand held out. " Nice to meet you, Teki-kun."
I glowered at him, but he merely laughed, linking his hands behind his head before flopping back on the couch.
" Now that you're settled... " the man who escorted me here darted forward, placed the bowl on the table, filled with small paperslips. "Pick a slip. Gaho, you first."
A man with jet-black hair leaned forward from his spot on the armrest of Kaori's couch. Selecting a paper, Gaho pulled his hand back with alarming agility, sharp, narrow eyes trained on the words written in loopy blue ink.
"Shinji."
His voice was blunt, carrying no emotion as he lifted his dark-colored blue gaze up. "What is that supposed to mean, Kori?
"Why, it's your new name!" Kori exclaimed, clapping his hands together. When we all stared at him blankly, he hurried to explain. "During these four years you're looking for the targets, you'll go by new names so no one can look your location in your databank."
" Same last name?" Chihome questioned, exchanging glances with me.
He nodded, turning his bright green-eyed gaze on 'Shinji'. "Welcome, Matsuno Shinji."
Shinji' s eyes narrowed as he leaned back, then chin-pointed at Kaori. "Your go."
Kaori shrugged, seeming to be content with going as he swiftly pulled a slip from the jar. "Shinzo," he read out loud, then grinned. "I like it."
"Wonderful, " I said dryly. "Mind if I go next?"
When no one objected, I plucked the paper from the container, smoothing it out against my leg to read the words.
"Jaxson," Chihome piped over my shoulder. "It sounds nice."
Without an warning, she too took a small piece of paper. "Ferphina! It's preeetty.."
I resisted the urge to facepalm and turned my gaze on the girl on the couch opposite of Shinzo's. She was staring at the ceiling, her tattooed arms crossed over her chest.
"Hey, redhead," Shinzo drawled, and her head snapped forward, training her onyx-colored gaze on him. When he gestured at the bowl, she nearly knocked it over as she pulled a piece out.
"Kin."
With that, she shredded the piece of paper in two, dropping it to the floor before flipping her red hair over her shoulder. "What the hell are you looking at?"
"Those tattoos," Ch- No, Ferphina- trailed off, staring at Kin's arms.
"They're of the Yamatu family. "
The red-haired woman's gaze filled with fury as she uncrossed her arms. "Yeah, so what?" under her breath, I could hear. "Brats, butting themselves into my family..."
"We're both R-" my sister started to say before I slapped my hand over her mouth, silencing her with a glare that warned her not to go on about the war between the Rixens and the Yamatus.
Kin sniffed, sticking her nose into the air. "Whatever. Whoever's next, just freaking go."
"Fiesty," Shinzo chuckled, running a hand through his hair. "But seriously, go."
The final one, a person hidden deep with their hood and mask, reached over and picked a slip with spindly fingers. They jutted the slip at Kin, who turned her head to look at it.
"Chiko," she read out loud.
Kori beamed. "Shinzo, Jaxson, Kin, Ferphina, Shinji, and Chiko- your names of the past are no more. Leave them behind. You are now a Tyrhung."
A/N~
So, since I'm finding it rough to get a move on Abyss of Silver, why not a prequel with their father? Hopefully this story will be somewhat short
I dunno.
Oh, please criticize, please? I would really appreciate it, even if it took like four comments. You can criticize anything, from the characters to the name change. I don't mind, I'll be glad for it.
