Two Months Later:
Zara was now four and half months pregnant and still no one noticed her pregnancy at hospital as she was wearing loose clothes.
Her doctor as well as Kabir has told that she didn't have to work after five months as she was weak. So these were the last two weeks she was working full time. She has talked to Dr. Mittal who accepted her departure but promised to stay in contact.
She decided to go and work part time in a small clinic nearby to keep on practising but avoid doing long surgeries. She can't stand for that long now. Her feet and bladder didn't support her enough to stand for eight hours nonstop.
She now realised the problems of pregnancy and the things women face and felt grateful to her mother for giving her birth.
Zara didn't hate her mother, she just wished that she didn't betray her dad and left them like that but she never hated her mom. She just felt indifference towards her.
And now when she herself was on verge of motherhood; she felt thankful to her mother for giving birth to her.
Does this make her stupid?
She didn't know.
She just knew that she must do what makes her and her baby happy.
Even Kabir was trying to do the same.
He was there to make sure that her diet is healthy and sits in front of her till she takes her medicines. She saw him reading books regarding pregnancy and fatherhood.
He saw her swollen feet one day and massaged them, not saying any words and catching her off guard. The action was so calm, so intimate and relaxing that Zara closed her eyes in bliss.
May be they could make it work after all. They could work out to be good parents.
Their relationship or lack of one, well it wasn't going to change anytime soon.
The day he made her sign those papers was the day that she locked that stupid piece of her heart that held any feeling for him.
So now when she saw his actions and care; she just saw him as the father of her child and she was sure that he would be a good one.
But he was not good to her.
He hurt her badly.
He punished her gravely for something he knew so well, was nothing but a moment of anxiety and panic.
And that was something that she found hard to forgive; not that he ever apologised.
So that chapter was now closed.
Just like her feelings for him. They were also getting closure.
***
Kabir was walking inside the place he never thought he will, to meet someone he never thought he will and to ask for something that no one expected him to.
Was it really that important and unavoidable?
He thought and then shook his head knowing that it was.
Was there no other way?
He knew there was not.
It's been two months already and nothing else was working.
So he shook his head and told receptionist to tell her boss that he wants to meet him.
She immediately refused saying that he needs a prior appointment for meeting the boss and Kabir snorted. He just told her one person whose mention he knew would make a difference.
And she hurriedly nodded before calling her boss and he knew that it worked as her eyes widened and she apologised and escorted him to the boss's room.
So this is it then, the moment of truth.
He thought and entered the cabin and saw the man on the chair waiting for him expectantly.
Kabir sat on the chair and didn't say a word just assessing him and knew that the man sitting in front of him was doing the same.
If one lasagne is bad, doesn't mean all will be. We just need to try it again. He remembered the words and took a deep breath.
***
"Must you always be so dramatic? You made my receptionist worried by taking name of my wife."
Rehan finally broke the silence and Kabir smirked.
"She became your wife much later than she became my sweetie pie. And your receptionist was not allowing me to come inside, saying you were busy. So I said that your wife sent me and then she called you not caring about how busy you are." Kabir countered.
"Angel won't like that you used her name like that and I was really busy but my receptionist knows that anything or anyone related to my wife, should be dealt with urgency." Rehan replied sighing.
Kabir has to admit that he liked the importance his sweetie pie has here. She deserved it all and more.
"Sweetie pie will understand and I don't care about your schedule." Kabir said in an arrogant tone.
"Careful brother in law, you are sitting in my office." Rehan replied in same tone.
Kabir can't intimidate him.
"And I'm the doctor here. I know how to hurt you without killing you." Kabir sweetly said.
"My lifeline is resting in my house safely and she is too important for you to even harm a single strand of my hair." Rehan replied in a smug tone.
"Besides you won't hurt the person whose help you need. You don't come to meet person you claim to hate, just to threaten him." He added and this time Kabir was impressed.
This man knows how to judge people. Good.
"How is she?" Kabir finally asked the question.
"You have been asking that from Pakhi."
Rehan replied and it was true. Kabir messaged Pakhi who timely sent him the reports after informing Sanaa.
They were angry but they knew he cares.
"I want to know how she is, not how her health is. There's a difference." Kabir cleared.
"Then you should ask the question from her." Rehan said smirking.
"Well, I can't. So unfortunately you are the next better thing and wipe that smirk. My sweetie pie might find it charming, I don't." Kabir said in a bored tone and Rehan just shook his head.
His Angel has warned him about her Kabir's crude nature and snarky remarks. He knew that Kabir was trying to get under her skin.
"She is doing well. She just completed her second trimester. She gets tired easily so stopped doing major surgeries one month back and is handling the work from SMC at our home. She spends most of her time with my mom, my nephew and new born niece. Your friends also cheer her up from time to time." Rehan said and stopped.
"But?" Kabir asked knowing well that it wasn't all.
"She misses you. I told her so many times that she should talk to you but she refused saying that you don't want to. But now that you are here, I'm telling you that you should. I don't know what issues you are having but my wife won't be the one to be at receiving ends of your plans." Rehan spoke what he felt.
"Your wife is smart. Learn something from her. She knows when to not interfere. You should also do the same. Don't interefere where you don't need to." Kabir plainly said and Rehan stood up from his chair in anger.
His patience was only this much.
"This is the third time you are insulting me, that too in my office this time. First time, I let it go because I felt that I over reacted that day and you were in recovery.
Second time, you insulted me knowingly because you were on your stupid mission to destroy everything and I didn't care.
But I won't let the third time go unseen like that because now you are hurting my wife." Rehan strongly voiced his displeasure.
"If you knew it that day, that she was pregnant then why you created that scene? And if you don't want to talk to her then why the hell are you here in my office asking about her?
When you and I both know that when she will get to know about your visit from me; she will be hurt once again because her Bir is still running away from her!"
Rehan shouted and now Kabir stood up feeling equally angry and banged the table between them in anger.
Enough of the blame game that everyone is giving him!
What does everyone think about him; that he is a sadistic person who enjoys other people's pain?
That he enjoys hiding things from everyone? That he enjoys creating mess out of his life?
***
"I created a scene that day because I can not get her into the mess I am. She is happy and in a phase of her life when she should be away from all worries and anger.
And don't you dare to blame me for creating a scene that day and hurting her because both she and I knew that I was doing everything on purpose! She was and will never be stressed because of me." Kabir shouted.
Judging the relationship between him and his sweetie pie? No one has that right. Not even her husband.
So he continued.
"And she is feeling hurt because I'm not with her but she knows that I'm hiding something from her and that's for her own good. What do you want me to do? Go and tell all the problems of my life to my pregnant sister who is happy after so many years?
You think care is shown just by giving chocolates and flowers? No Rehan! True care is when you know that you need to share your pain with someone to feel better but you still keep quiet, seeing them happy because you don't want your pain to affect their happiness.
You know that someone understands you so well, loves you without any condition and thinks of your pain as their own and yet you hide your problems from them. Not because you enjoy being called mysterious but because you don't want them to feel worried about you because you love and care for them equally if not more!
I could give her hugs and chocolates. I could start talking to her sweetly but then I would be lying to her about my problems, hiding them behind a mask and I don't want to do that. Hence, the distance.
Because atleast now she knows that I'm having problems and I want some time before letting her know them. That's the closest I could go to the truth, without stressing her. I need her support as much as she needs mine. And yet we are not talking. There must be some reason for that."
Kabir explained his and his sweetie pie's relationship to Rehan in words and Rehan finally understood the bond they both shared and realised that none of the outsiders should interfere between these two.
They will have to find their way to each other on their own.
Without any interference.
***
"Why are you here Kabir?" Rehan finally asked as he got up from his chair and looked outside the window of his office, at the tall buildings where sky was almost invisible.
Just like Sanaa and Kabir's relationship which was always there but hidden from him for a long time and that's why he never understood it.
Kabir took a deep breath and stood next to him, looking ahead. The buildings were tall but sky was higher than all.
All the relationships in their life but his and his sweetie pie's relation was the oldest and most consistent. It's been there always even tough they are not together.
Problems will come and go but they will be there for each other.
More than anyone else he wanted to tell her the truth for so long but...
Does everyone thinks that it's easy to keep so much bottled inside yourself and never speak it to any single soul?
From one person for whom he has swallowed his pride and stayed in Mr. Malik's house?
All in time.
He chanted and took a deep breath before saying, "I want your help."
***
I hope that now you are starting to understand Kabir a little better. He is not taunting Rehan. He is just explaining his thinking.
That's why he is close to my heart, I guess. Because I can see his struggles so clearly.
Anyways, The way Kabir defined his and his sweetie pie's relationship... awesome.
It really made me feel bad for keeping them apart for so long.
And as Rehan said, no third character of my story should interfere between them. No once can judge the depth of their relationship. The buildings are high, but the sky is higher than them all.
And soon all the curtains from one of my favourite relationship will go up (;
The next part of this intense conversation will come out in next chapter.
But I hoped that you enjoyed reading intense Kabir, straightforward Rehan and smart Zoya *winks*
So if you are liking it then vote, comment and share. Silent readers please vote on all the chapters as we are near the end (:
