Two

Yoon Jeonghan didn't see the family again after that day and slowly, he began to forget about them as he focused on his job in the eatery. One hot afternoon, he stood cleaning the counter when he saw someone raising up an arm for his attention. It was an elderly woman not more than fifty years of age. He put up his angelic smile and went over to the woman.

He bowed as soon as he reached her. "Welcome, what may I get you?" He said politely.

"I would like jajangyum and chicken feet"

"Right away"  Jeonghan left and returned soon with her order. As he laid it on the table, he felt her studying him.

"You're new here aren't you?" She asked. For some reason, something about this woman felt familiar.

He nodded. "I started working here last week" He answered.

"Has anyone ever told you how pretty you are?"

This felt strange but Jeonghan couldn't help but blush. "I hear that a lot"

The woman laughed "You should" She focused on her food now. "Thank you"

"You're welcome eommoni" Jeonghan said and left. He attended to other customers however, he couldn't help but feel that the woman was watching his every move. Sometimes, he would catch her studying him. He would give her a little smile and pretend to ignore her. She stayed longer than normal and it seemed the other workers noticed.

"What's her deal? It seems that she's into you. Does she want you to be her sugar boy?" Jun chuckled.

Jeonghan rolled his eyes "Shut up Jun. I don't think that's it."

Wonwoo who was beside them cleaning smirked. "Besides, anyone who sees Jeonghan would know he doesn't swing that way"

Jeonghan glared at him "What do you mean?"

Wonwoo reddened. "Just joking but I think you've made it very obvious what side you're on  "

Jeonghan sighed softly and shook his head. Wonwoo was right. Just one look at him and one would tell his sexual preference which made this woman's behavior odd. What was she up to?

She raised her hand and he rushed to her planting his typical angelic smile on his face.

"Yes ma'am, what can I do for you?"

She nodded. "Please pack me two boxes of pizza will you?"

"Of course ma'am" Jeonghan said softly and left. He returned with a bag full of pizza.

The woman took it from him. "Thank you so much. How much am I paying you for the meal and the pizza"

"That will be two thousand won" Jeonghan said. The woman counted the money from her bag and even added a tip. He bowed, full of smiles "Thank you very much ma'am"

He turned to go when the woman stopped him with her voice.

"Can I speak with you for a little while?"

Jeonghan turned to face her looking confused.

"Can you sit with me for just a little bit?" The woman said.

"But I'm still working."

"Just a little bit"

"Okay, just a while. I don't want my boss to see me"

The woman laughed "Don't worry, I will explain that I forced you to sit with me and you couldn't refuse a customer"

Jeonghan was still hesitant but he sat down facing the woman. She cleared her throat, her eyes shining with something he couldn't describe.

"What is your name?" she asked. Jeonghan was taken aback but he answered.

"Yoon Jeonghan" He said.

She nodded "That's good, how old are you?"

"I just turned twenty eight last month"

The woman nodded "That's a good age" She paused then continued "What about your parents?"

Jeonghan was clearly uncomfortable with these questions "Why are you asking me all these questions?"

The woman shook her head "I'm sorry. Looks like I'm making you uncomfortable"

Jeonghan didn't say anything. The woman continued "It's just that when I saw you, I finally saw what I've been looking for. I don't know but there's just something about you...."

"Something about me?"

The woman nodded and brought out her phone from her bag as she kept talking.

"My only son lost his husband three years ago and ever since, he has been miserable. He works like an addict and barely has time to take care of himself talkless of his five children"

Something rang in Jeonghan's head "Sounds like someone I know"

"I have tried everything I can to get him remarried at least for the sake of his children but he wouldn't let me"

Jeonghan understood the man. "Perhaps, it's because he can't trust anyone with his children"

The mother nodded. "I thought about that too that's why I forced him to get housekeepers at least but none of them lasted more than a month. He always says that it's because of the kids but I know it's him. He just can't stand to see someone else taking the place of his husband"

Jeonghan was truly sorry for the woman. "I feel your pain but I don't how I come into this"

The woman took a deep breath "I want you to try your luck"

"Me? But I don't even know your son" he said aghast.

"I have a feeling that you can help him. You look like the type of person for him. You look stubborn like you can't take no for an answer"

Jeonghan couldn't understand this woman. How did she know he was that kind of guy just by looking at him. He shook his head.

"I'm sorry but I have enough problems on my own. I don't think I can deal with a single dad and five kids" he sighed heavily "I'm sorry, find someone else"

"Wait! At least let me show you how he looks like. Perhaps you will change your mind" the woman cried desperately

Jeonghan groaned tiredly. He was definitely sure that nothing was going to change his mind. The woman showed him her phone and immediately his eyes landed on the image in front of him, his heart turned in his chest. It was really him! The man he had not been able to forget.

The woman could see Jeonghan's changing expressions and knew that the picture had the desired effect. It always did. It was a picture of Seungcheol sitting with his legs crossed as he wore a white shirt and blue jean, his eyes focused on the iPod in his hands. He looked ethereal, like someone from another planet and it never failed to amaze those who saw it.

A smirk appeared on his mother's lips as she saw Jeonghan gawking at the picture. She withdrew the phone.

"It seems you like it" she said.

"I know him. He came here last week with his children" His eyes had a faraway look in them. "They were adorable" he whispered.

The woman smiled "What did you think of my son Seungcheol?"

Jeonghan sighed softly "He's really handsome and well mannered but he seemed so lonely."

"That's what I'm saying...."

Wonwoo's voice cut into their conversation "Jeonghan, seat seven"

Jeonghan stood up hurriedly. "I have to get back to work" he said.

"let's exchange numbers. We'll continue this conversation another time"

They exchanged numbers but before they separated, Jeonghan smiled at the woman shyly. "em, can I have that photo of Seungcheol?"

The woman raised an eyebrow and chuckled "of course dear "

She sent him the photo and Jeonghan bowed.

"I will call you very soon. Please think about this carefully" she said.

"I will " Jeonghan replied and watched the woman leave with her bags of pizza. He then returned to work.

Mrs Choi smiled to herself as she stepped down from the cab and stood in front of her son's duplex. She had a strong feeling that this time, it would be different. Besides, who would ignore someone as beautiful as Jeonghan. Mrs Choi was determined to get her depressed and stubborn son married again. She pressed the doorbell and she heard her son's voice say something loudly but she couldn't tell what it was. She pressed again and this time, it was her eldest grandson that opened the door. The smile on his face was blinding.

"Grandma!" he yelled happily and hugged her. She wound her arms around him.

"Oh my Seokmin, how are you?

"fine grandma!" he yelled and dragged her inside. The house was an eyesore. There where toys littered everywhere. Pillows scattered at every direction of the house. Two of her grandkids, the Chinese and American one ran to her and jumped on her back.

"Minghao, Vernon! grandma is old. She isn't as strong as before"

The two chuckled as she ruffled their hair. "Where are your other two brothers"

"Chan is asleep" Minghao said.

"Seungkwan is dressing up as a girl" Vernon said and laughed. Typical Seungkwan.

"Where is your dad?"

"He's in the kitchen" they chorused.

"Have you eaten?"

The three shook their heads looking pitiful. Mrs Choi brought out one of the pizza boxes and placed it on the center table

"yay pizza!" They shouted and began to dig in. Mrs Choi went to the kitchen and saw her son running up and down trying to cook something but she could see it wasn't going anywhere. He had always been a lousy cook.

"Choi Seungcheol!" she said entering the kitchen. Her son turned and she could see the relief in his eyes.

"Eomma!" He said.

"you need a housekeeper son, the whole house is a mess"

Seungcheol ran his hands over his hair. "I will take care of it"

His mother rolled her eyes "like you've been taking care of it this past three years"

Something in his eyes flashed then disappeared. "Anyway, I'm so glad you're here. I have a meeting in thirty minutes"

He kissed his mother in the cheek.

"So?" Mrs Choi inquired.

"Please take care of the kids till I return"

His mother frowned "Seungcheol...."

But he was already out of the kitchen. Mrs Choi sighed heavily as she wore the apron and set to work.

In a few minutes, Seungcheol was out of his room looking fresh. Mrs Choi rushed to him before he could escape.

"Seungcheol, try to come home early. There's something I need to discuss with you" She said.

"Alright mom" He said and embraced her.

"Bye kids" He said to his children sitting in the living room.

"Bye Appa" They answered but Seungcheol didn't return that night. Mrs Choi called his phone and he told her that he had to stay over at work. She felt he was avoiding her because he knew she was only going to badger him about employing a house keeper or remarrying. She held her anger in after tucking the kids into bed. After all, he was her only son. She would do anything for him. She spent the entire night cleaning up the house.

It was late when Jeonghan returned to his crappy apartment. He brought out his phone and looked at Seungcheol's image. Maybe it was time for him to move on. He had been stuck in the past for so long. No more. Perhaps, this Choi Seungcheol and his children could provide the escape he desperately needed. He has made up his mind. With that, he took a bath, dressed and lay on the bed wondering what the future had in stall for him.

Hope you enjoyed. Have a wonderful day
