new guests

grey clouds covered the morning sky, as the wind moved around the tree branches from side to side. curiously, you glanced around the front yard, taking in the absence of some of your friends. the only people you've noticed so far were ruby, who was standing by the gate with her arms crossed over her chest, omar by the fire, mitch and willy sitting on the watch tower and tenn, drawing pictures as usual.

"hey, tenn." you simply greeted the younger kid, throwing your legs over the picnic table's seat, as you sat down next to him. "hi." looking up from his drawing for a second, tenn shyly smiled at you. "what are you drawing there?" you raised an eyebrow, while taking a closer look. "it's what the school used to look like before the monsters came." tenn explained, continuing to brush the tip of the pencil against the old piece of paper.

"it's pretty good, i'll tell you that. hey, um.. do you maybe know where are the others?" furrowing your brows, you curiously asked the kid, silently hoping for answers. "some crash happened nearby. they went to check it out." tenn answered, keeping his gaze glued to his drawing. at that, you couldn't help, but furrow your brows even further more. looking up behind the school's high walls, you took in the light smoke coming up in the air from a distance.

within seconds, worry filled your body. swiftly standing up from your seat, you looked down at tenn once again, opening your mouth to ask him one more question, yet nothing managed to come out, as you were cut off by someone else.

"they're back!" willy shouted, making his way down from the watch tower, followed by mitch. quickening your pace, you ran up to the front gate, eyes widening. while ruby opened the gate with mitch's help, the group walked inside, but they weren't alone. in his arms, louis carried an unconscious kid, who seemed to be around five to six years old. marlon followed, also carrying someone, but instead of another kid, it was a girl, who appeared to be around your age, maybe a bit younger.

questions were thrown at the group from every side, only to be silenced by marlon himself. "i'll explain everything later. first, we need to take care of the kid and the girl." he firmly announced, walking towards the school's big door. running up the them, you begun to walk next to marlon, trying to keep up with his pace.

"are you guys insane? letting complete strangers in here? we don't know them, marlon! they could be--" throwing your hands around, you continued to ramble, before marlon cut you off with a groan. "we let you in here, too, didn't we?" the blonde's words that interrupted you made you stop dead in your tracks - stomach twisting in knots.

gulping down the harsh words you wanted to throw at marlon, you picked up your pace once again. "that's not fair and you know it, marlon. you've known me for years, but you've known them for what? twenty minutes?" ignoring you, marlon walked inside one of the empty dorms. at that, you stopped walking and loudly scoffed. you do not like to be ignored, but after all, who does? in silence, you watched marlon lay down the girl, while ruby begun working on her injuries, that must have happened in the crash.

making your way out of the building, you were about to walk out the door, when you spotted louis, walking in the opposite direction. your eyes widened with hope, excited to finally talk to someone. "louis!" you eagerly called out to the brunette. "we'll talk later, y/n, alright? sorry!" louis quickly announced, brushing you off as if you were nothing - no one, before running up the stairs, leaving your sight, as you let out a long sigh.

after louis promised to wake you up when needed, you felt almost betrayed he didn't. but even more, you felt hurt he simply ignored you.

with everyone in a rush, you couldn't get a hold of anyone. so many questions, yet no answers. with no important duties for now, you looked around the school, desperately searching for anything you could help with, as a strange and uncomfortable feeling set inside your chest.

when your gaze fell onto the abandoned-looking graveyard, you tensed up. you could spend the rest of the day sitting on the cold ground and pity yourself like you did the other day, yet you choose to quickly shook the idea out of your head and continue walking.

in defeat, you sat down on the front stairs of the school and ran your fingers through your hair. "y/n?" at the sudden call of your name, you swiftly turned your head around with confused yet curious eyes, as you were met with marlon standing right above you. "let's go to my office, i own you an explanation."..
