Chapter 10

(y/n) POV

It's been ten years since my son was born. Naudia and I have been married for nine of those wonderful years. "Where is he?" I asked, "He's outside. He wanted to look at the moon." Naudia said, "I'll go sit with him, I don't spend enough time with my son." I said as I kissed her and went outside.

"Nice night isn't it kiddo?" I said as I sat with my son, "Yeah! The sky's clear and the moon is full. I bet I'm gonna remember this night for the rest of my life." he said, "You don't say. It's nice that we get to share nights like this little guy. Never thought I'd get to do things like this. Just goes to show you, life's a crazy bag of marbles." I said, "Marbles?" he said confused, "One big crazy bag of marbles. Blue marbles. Red marbles. Half-transparent marbles with a fun swirl in them. Some marbles are even more interesting. Some marbles you think are going to be limited edition with king designs, but then they're the equally limited but much more surprising female king marble. Some argue that's debatably rarer. I argue that's anxiety-inducing. Some like to abduct smaller marbles, then you gotta shoot that marble 'cause its marble buddy brought a really big black tentacle marble. Marbles sure are random. Especially when you force them into wheelchairs, hold other marbles for ransom, forge a magical pact with a marble that forces you to watch as they grovel in pain on the ground, begging for the sweet release of marble death. But you can't. Because you signed a magical marble pact. And you can only watch as its last marble breath escapes its marble lips." I said staring off into the vast sky lost in my memories, "Dad...did marbles hurt you?" he asked, "No kiddo, I hurt me. I also hurt marbles. I feel worse about the marbles." I said, "Ok off to bed, your mom will tuck you in, there's something I need to do." I said as I walked inside and poured myself a large glass of whiskey.

"Honey, are you alright? You rarely drink." Naudia said, "I just realized what's going on and I needed something to numb the pain." I said, "What's going on? Please tell me." she said, "Well since none of it matters might as well. When I was a child I was a part of a ritual called the Holy Grail War. As crazy as it sounds, magic is real, and it almost killed me. The night I learned all of this, my parents died. My father killed himself after killing my mother. It was only after the war that Alexis adopted me. And in..." I said as I checked the time, "four hours, it's going to start again." I said, "Honey, remember what I said on our wedding day?" I asked, "Of course, you told me that we'll be together for all of time, nothing will separate us." she said, "You probably think I'm insane. I mean how could you not? I was cursed and then I told my son exactly how his life will go and showed him how it all ends!" I cried, "Honey, I believe you. God, I don't want to die, but tell me are you certain that we'll see each other again?" she asked as I looked at my reflection in the mirror in the hallway and saw that scared little ten-year-old who was used by a witch and because of her he fell in love over and over. "I'm fairly certain." I said as I kissed her, "And our son he'll be alright? He won't be alone for too long?" she asked barely keeping it together, "He'll be alright eventually, he'll only be alone for a few hours." I said, "Then can we sit together until it's time for us to go?" she asked, "Of course." I said.

Four  hours flew by in the blink of an eye, "Are you ready?" I asked, "No, but I know this is what has to happen. I love you." Naudia said, "I love you too." I said as tears filled our eyes before I shot her in the head, 'Three, two..." I thought before turning and looked myself in the eyes as I did so many years ago. "Do better than I did." I said before I shot myself.

"Here we are again, sweet boy." Caster said as I turned around, "How many times is this?" I asked, "You're smarter than the rest. I'll be honest, I don't know. Not even Solomon knows." she said, "God damn it!" I said as I fell to my knees, "Are you happy now?! Will my son have to continue this torture!" I cried, "That's the thing I'm not doing this. I'm just the greeter. You did it. You're a heroic spirit, an Argonaut who helped kill a witch. But you trapped yourself in your noble phantasm. A berserker who has the power to control the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation. You trapped yourself in that loop and you can never escape it. I'm sorry." she said, "So Naudia..." I said, "She's down there, living her life unaware of any of this." she said.
