Good of the Grail Pt.1

No spoilers. This is kind of random though...

Wake up. His instincts told him that he was in danger, yet he couldn't sense a thing. His thoughts were so hazy that the reason for his very existence was a mystery to him.

Wake up! The sounds of voices could be heard as he forced his consciousness into activity. He blinked a few times to adjust his eyes to the light. He was met with the familiar face of a woman who glared at him with those green eyes of hers. She stood against the doorframe of the room (y/n) was in.

"Master, this thing is awake," the woman called. She didn't take her eyes off him as if he were a threat. He himself didn't know whether or not he was a threat. All he knew was his name and that he held some sort of purpose in an occurrence called a holy grail war. Common knowledge of certain things was the only other amount of information that his mind could access.

"Don't call him a thing, Mordred. That's rude." Another woman entered the room. She wasn't glaring at him and was likely the person called Master.

"He isn't human and he isn't a servant. As far as I know, neither of them bleed gold. That's definitely not normal," Mordred muttered. As she said this, (y/n) sat up from the bed that he lay in.

"Bleed gold?" he found himself saying. (Y/n) looked down at himself noticing that he was indeed bleeding from his side. There were bandages wrapped around his frame although his blood partially soaked through them. Blood was not gold, yet his was unmistakably gold in color. He wasn't even in pain despite knowing that pain was a real thing that people experienced.

"We tried to stop the bleeding but nothing we did worked. Plus you're healing on your own. I don't know what you are, but you saved our lives back there," the woman called Master spoke. Her face was also familiar to him, but not for the reason she mentioned.

"I don't remember...and I don't think I know who you are. Strangely enough, I know that I'm important to the holy grail war," (y/n) stated. Immediately after speaking those words, he found himself face to face with a sword.

"See, Eresh, I told you that he had something to do with this war. I'm not buying this amnesia crap. This is obviously a set up," Mordred spoke. Just seconds ago, she didn't even have a sword in her hand.

"Stop it, Mordred. This isn't even that kind of war. There's no need to suspect him of anything. If we don't find the grail and the other six masters before it's too late, the world will end. Angra Mainyu will manifest soon, and we need all seven servants plus the grail's power to stop him. You know that," Eresh explained. Mordred lowered her weapon but kept her glare.

The name Angra Mainyu was familiar to (y/n). "That name you mention, I know that name. All of the world's evil, Angra Mainyu, will manifest here?"

"Yes, that's right. It's our jobs as masters of the seven heroic spirits to stop him, but we were all separated by that thing that attacked us. You showed up just in time to save Mordred from those beasts. That's why I'm sure you aren't our enemy." Eresh seemed so sure about her words. Perhaps it wasn't a good time to tell them that the reason Angra Mainyu was so familiar to him was because they are friends. (Y/n) didn't know why he was friends with the one who is supposedly trying to end the world, but the information in his head told him that this was so.

"And you are a human right? Your name is familiar to a Mesopotamian goddess that I know. You even look like her..." (y/n) trailed off when Eresh gave him a suspicious look.

"See, he knows too much. Obviously an enemy. No one should know about your connection to that goddess just by looking at you. Even I didn't know until after you told me," Mordred ranted while pointing accusingly at (y/n). "How do you explain that one?" she asked him.

"I have the names and faces of every heroic spirit recorded in my memory. It's only natural that I'd see the resemblance," he replied. "I already knew you, Mordred. Knight of the round table, a prodigy of your time. You served under King Arthur as one of Camelot's greatest forces."

Mordred blinked at him a few times. "What are you, a history book? Don't just say stuff like that out loud," she muttered. A majority of her aggression towards him had gone away simply from his ability to identify her. "What else do you know about me?"

"That isn't important right now. We need to move on and come up with a plan that doesn't involve running into any more phantasmals. They were likely sent here by Angra to stall us." Eresh looked to (y/n) as if she expected him to have all of the answers. "You appeared when we went to stop the phantasmals from manifesting in this world. You're not human, beast, or even servant. After your appearance, the holy grail's location was lost. Since you know so much about servants and claim to have something to do with this war, then it's obvious that you know where the holy grail is located. Tell us where it is."

"I wish I could, but I don't even remember getting here from wherever I came from. The holy grail's whereabouts are a mystery to me. But if my purpose is to help you stop all of the world's evil from manifesting, then I'll do it," (y/n) explained.

"As long as you are on our side, then we will be on good terms," Mordred agreed. She still seemed a little skeptical of him, but her suspicion was nowhere near the level it had been when (y/n) woke up.

"I just wish I knew where the other masters are right now. This would all be so much easier," Eresh mumbled. Her words sparked a memory in (y/n)'s head.

"Is that all that you wish?" His question seemed to confuse her, so he asked again. "Is that really the only thing you wish for right now?"

"The heck is that supposed to mean?" Mordred growled.

"Yes, that's what I wish for at this moment. What are you going to do about it?" Eresh answered. She had ignored Mordred after realizing something that (y/n) himself was still unaware of. The moment she gave her answer, a portion of (y/n)'s memory returned. He acted instinctively and held his hand out in front of him with the palm facing upward. It glowed as a folded piece of paper materialized into it.

"Their locations should be written on this paper here. Now wish for something else. It's helping me gain my memory," said once his hand had ceased to glow. He held the paper out to Eresh, but Mordred was the one to take it.

"It really has their locations on this thing. Guess you aren't that bad at all then," Mordred mused.

Eresh, who had been staring at him all the while, finally spoke. "Mordred, I don't think we need to find the holy grail anymore," she almost whispered as she spoke. "He's right in front of us."

"Did you seriously just call the holy grail a he? Are you still sane?" Mordred flicked Eresh's head causing the girl to swat at her.

"Of course I'm still sane! I know what I said. We don't need to look for the holy grail because he's right in front of us!" Eresh snapped. She pointed at (y/n) as she explained this, and she was entirely correct. He was indeed the holy grail. Not some vessel of the wish granting device, but the wish granting device itself.

So now you remember. Good for you. The words seemed to echo around (y/n). He couldn't tell which direction they came for, nor did he know who was speaking to him. There was too much that he couldn't remember.

Mordred finally decided to believe Eresh's claim. "Well that's just disappointing. Kinda expected the grail to be more...you know, like an actual grail. The cup kind, not the kind that shoots magical lazer beams from his hands," she said.

"I shot lazer beams from my hands??" It must have been during the supposed rescue that (y/n) didn't remember.

"There's a lot that you did. It seems you really don't remember, but since you're the holy grail...that means you can probably do more than just that," Eresh stated.

And she is correct. Just wait until I show up. You'll see. By then you'll understand. This time the identity of the one who had spoken was clear. All of the world's evil, Angra Mainyu, was this voice, and that was not a good sign...or was it?

Part 2 is up next. Since I added it myself, it won't count as one of the original 20, so no need to worry about that.
