Brianna stirred under warm comfy sheets. She hadn't felt so comfortable in a long time but she couldn't relish that happiness as beams of light hit her relaxed face. Moaning she threw the sheets above her head.

A little bit more. Just another minute and I'll wake up.

But the sheets were too hot now. Cussing Brianna sat upright, rubbing her eyes in irritation.

Slowly she opened them. The blinding light made her squinch reflexively.

The lilac coloured walls seemed unfamiliar once they came into focus. Brianna looked around, scanning the relatively simple room she was in. Everything seemed unfamiliar.

Where am I? This isn't my room.

Brianna laid back down. Perhaps this was a dream? Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me?

Closing her eyes she concentrated. Come on wake up.

When she opened her eyes she was still in the room.

How is this possible? Maybe I have been kidnapped? Maybe I'm still dreaming?

Brianna felt panic and confusion set in. But it was as if her emotions had been diluted. She was far to calm for this situation.

Scanning the room she found her wheelchair to be missing.

This has to either be a kidnapping or a dream.

Not wanting to be in the room and find out whether if the latter was right, she dragged her feet down from the bed. She would crawl if she had to. Something about this place didn't sit with her well.

As soon as her feet hit the wooden floor Brianna stopped breathing.

No, no way...this, this is not possible.

Staring down at her feet she felt shocked but not as much as she would normally feel. Somehow her feet seemed to be able to sense the slight coolness of the wooden floor. Even though it was faint it was there.

She couldn't believe it. How could this be possible? After so many months she could finally feel something.

Is this a miracle?

After giving herself a few seconds to take in the news Brianna attempted to stand. She had her doubts but it was worth the shot.

And she did! She was there standing on her own two feet without support.

This has to be a dream! There was no way this could be real.

Taking a deep breath Brianna then attempted to walk. And this too she could do. Somehow after months of sitting 24/7 she managed not to fall.

Brianna knew this had to be miracle. There was no way someone just gets up one day and just starts walking after such injuries. But the happiness she felt was again diluted.

Strange. I haven't felt like this before? Maybe this is a dream so I feel like this?

Dream or no dream Brianna was happy to use her legs. How she wished this would be reality.

Alright lets find out where we are.

Brianna made her way towards the door. She peeped out, looking to see if anyone was there. To her surprise the place seemed abandoned.

This shouldn't surprise you. It's a dream after all.

Brianna rolled her eyes at her inner voice. She then took a left which seemed to lead to a kitchen. The light wooden cabinets contracted nicely with the dark chocolate floor.

This isn't the time to be admiring the interior design or colour choices of the house. This could still be a kidnapping you know.

But you just said it's a dream.

Stop arguing. You know I changed my opinion every five seconds. Now get out of here. This could also be the place of a serial killer.

Sighing, Brianna proceeded to walk straight towards the door that seemed like it would head outside. She couldn't deal with arguing with her inner voice. It was too much work.

Upon stepping outside Brianna froze, her jaw dropping to the ground.

There was no way this could ever be real.

The sky had to be the prettiest sky Brianna had ever seen in her entire life. The way the various shades of blues and oranges of mixed together with pops of white clouds was otherworldly. And it seemed like the small cottage she had just come out was right at the edge of a cliff.

No matter how diluted her feelings of awe were, they were still pretty strong for her to gawk at the sky for a whole minute.

"Seems like someone is enjoying the view," came a voice, startling her.

Turning around Brianna found a middle aged blonde woman standing near the door she had just come out of with a warm smile.

"Who are you?"

"Someone who just saved you," the woman replied.

"Saved me? From what? Oh do you mean my legs?" Brianna asked as she pointed to them.

"That and few other things. Come inside and I'll explain," the woman said as she walked inside the cottage.

Brianna stood there for a second to process what she just heard. Even though this situation seemed too bizarre, she had a feeling that she should follow this woman. Besides she needed answers.

Serial killer alert! Run away now. Brianna's inner voice yelled but she ignored it. Besides where could she run off too.

Brianna followed the woman to the same room she had woken up in. She took a seat on the bed and asked Brianna to do the same.

Once they were both seated the woman then poured a honey coloured liquid into a glass and handed it her.

"What's this?" Brianna asked taking the glass.

"It's an elixir. You must be feeling weird. This will help with that," the woman said, still having the warm smile light up her face.

"Elixer? Who are you? Where am I? How can I walk? What is this place?" Brianna asked looking at the strange woman.

"Oh that's right. I still haven't introduced myself. I'm Fate," the woman said as she extended out her hand.

"Fate? That's an odd name to have," Brianna said shaking her hand.

"Perhaps, but that's the name I was given and I quite like it. I think it's pretty fitting for me," Fate said, a mischievous smile dancing on her lips for a slip second before she masked it off with the same warm smile she usually seemed to hold.

Brianna remained slight. Something about any of this didn't seem nor feel right. She hoped this Fate woman would answer the remaining questions so she didn't have to repeat it all again.

I can't believe I got such a complex and weird dream. It's so weird to know that you're dreaming while being in it.

"If you want answers you must first drink. It will help clear some things up," Fate said as if she had read her mind.

Brianna eyed the amber coloured liquid and than the woman who claimed to be Fate. She knew better than to listen to words of a complete and utter stranger but something about those light green orbs told she could trust her. Besides nothing could go wrong inside a dream right?

Without wanting to drag this any longer Brianna quickly gulped it down. She had expected the elixir to taste sweet since it looked like honey but it didn't seem to hold any flavor. It was as bland as water.

"Oh, I forgot to mention you might feel some pain when you finish the drink," Fate says as Brianna places the glass on the night stand next to her.

"What do-" Brianna got cut off as she seemed to fall into sudden darkness.

Brianna was immediately transported to what seemed to be her bathroom.

"Ah!!!" She screamed as excruciating pain seeped into her like a shadow that had been in hiding.

Looking down she saw blood. So much blood.

From where had this much blood come from? What's happening? Why am I back here? Could I not kill myself? Was this all a dream I had when I blacked out?

So many thoughts ran in her head but she couldn't think or analyze them as the pain she felt was beyond tolerable. After a few seconds she couldn't breath.

The next couple of seconds seemed to last for eternity. Like living hell. No, it was a living hell. It was like her body had forgotten to switch her off from all the pain. She felt every fibre, everh cell in her being desperately gasping for air. The pain she felt before was nothing compared to this and finally her body couldn't seem to take anymore and everything stopped.

Before Brianna had a chance go grasp, she was pulled back and thrown to her current place.

"Wha- what was that?" Brianna asks as she desperately fills her lungs with air. Taking in a deep breath had never ever felt so good before.

"Do you still not understand?" Fate asks her.

For a moment Brianna didn't understand what she meant but than memories flooded in.

"Was...was that me dying?"

Fate nodes her head.

"Then I really am dead?" Brianna asks looking at Fate in confusion. This time her emotions didn't seem to feel diluted.

"Yup, that is correct," Fate replies.

"But... Why? Why would you show me that? And...and are you the really Fate? Like Fate is a person? How do you look human? How do I look and feel human?" Brianna asked. So many questions and emotions stormed her mind.

"I'll answer all of your questions later. It seems like we have an urgent matter to attend to first. Let's get going," Fate said, switching off her beeping wrist watch.

"Go where? Why do I need to come with you?" Brianna asked getting more and more confused by the minute.

"To work. You are my assistant after all," Fate said, winking at Brianna, the mischievous smile returning on her thin lips and before Brianna could process anything, Fate whisked her away.
