{25} No Katherine to Be Found
***
After Stefan had come and gotten us away from Ben and Anna, we went to Bonnie's Grams house. We talked to the older witch and she and Bonnie had finally agreed to open the tomb. All we need is for Damon to actually believe us this time. Apparently, Elena and Stefan had lied and betrayed Damon so now I have to be the one to convince him. I walked into the room I thought he would been in and sure enough he was. He was putting on his jacket and looked like he was getting ready to go somewhere.
He turned around and stared at me, "You stage a jailbreak? Damon picked up the grimoire.
"Stefan finally came." I told him as I walked closer to him.
"Ah, brother. Ever the white knight." Damon stated.
"After some convincing, Bonnie has finally decided to help you." I said to him.
Damon had an unconvinced look on his face, "I doubt that."
I sighed as I tried to convince him, "Look, I'm sorry that Stefan and Elena did that-"
Damon cut me off, "You don't have to say sorry. You weren't the one who did it."
I gave him a look as I continued, "But just listen. Elena was protecting the people she loves, Damon. But so were you, in your own, twisted way. You all are on the same side because you're after the same thing and you want the same thing." I now stood in front of him and was looking up at him seeing as I was short.
"Not interested." Damon started to walk away from me.
"If you aren't interested then why were you so willing to work with Elena and Stefan yesterday." I turned to look at him with a certain look. I was going to keep annoying him until he finally came with me.
Damon looked at me, "Fool me once, shame on you."
"Okay, when we were in Atlanta, why didn't you use your compulsion on Elena?" I asked him.
Damon placed the grimoire on the table and walked to stand in front of me, "Who's to say I didn't?"
I crossed my arms, "I know you didn't because I was there with you. I never saw you do it. I know that the betrayal hurt you, Damon, but you have to get over it because right now we are trying to help you. I am trying to help you right now, but you won't accept it because you're too stubborn to. I am promising you this... We will help you get Katherine."
Damon groaned, "I believe you, I just don't trust them."
"You don't need to believe in them," I was standing my ground as I talked. I wanted to help Damon even if he didn't want me help. "All you need to do is believe in me and I can assure you that they won't try anything."
Damon stepped towards me, "You know Anna won't stop, by the way, no matter what I do."
"I can deal with her." I shrugged.
Damon smirked at me, "You couldn't handle her the first time."
I hit his arm, "That was not my fault. I was caught off guard."
Damon thought for a second before finally saying, "I'm trusting them. Don't make me regret it."

We had passed a party on our way to the tomb. Caroline and Matt stopped us and they were talking to us. Damon blew them off and dragged me away by my arm. From a distance I could see Bonnie, Grams, Stefan, and Elena. They were talking and they didn't notice us walking towards them until Damon whistled. The whistle caught their attention and they turned to look at us. "Brother. Elena. Witches." Damon addressed them.
Damon walked past them and towards the entrance of the tomb. I walked over to Stefan and he asked me, "Everything okay?"
I nodded and took a deep breath, "Yep," I turned to the witches behind me, "Are we ready?"
Bonnie nodded slightly, "I guess so." I watched from the entrance with the others as Shelia lit the torches.
As she lit the torches, she started the spell, "Air. Earth. Fire."
Bonnie held up a water bottle, "Water." Sheila took it from her and started sprinkling the water on the floor.
Elena was confused, "That's it? Just water from the tap?"
"As opposed to what?" Sheila inquired. She never once lost her focus in what she was going as she asked this.
"I just figured maybe it would have to be blessed or mystical or something." Elena replied. Sheila smirked at Elena and I smiled slightly.
"What's that?" I heard Stefan ask. I turned to see that he was looking at Damon who had something in his hands. I got a closer look to see that it was a blood bag.
"It's for Katherine," Damon said. "Gotta have something to get her going. I want the fight to be a little fair. Unless your girl's offering a vein to tap," He looked over at Elena who stared back at him, unamused. Stefan sighed and Damon leaned closer to whisper something to him, "Admit it - you can't wait to get rid of me."
Stefan laughed a little, "I can't wait to get rid of you." Damon hummed and my attention moved back to the witches in front of me. They were both kneeling on the ground and looking at the grimoire.
Bonnie looked up at us, "We're ready." The two stood up and faced each other. They held each other's hands and closed their eyes. I watched in interest as the started chanting the spell. It sounded like they were speaking Latin. I sadly didn't know how to speak Latin so I had no idea what they were saying.
Damon looked back at us, "What are they saying?"
I leaned back against the wall behind me, "I think it's Latin."
"I don't think it's Latin," Elena spoke. After a minute or two, the flames from the torches started to rise. Elena grabbed Stefan's arm, "What's happening?" We heard a loud sound and I jumped at the suddenness. I turned to see that the door of the tomb slowly creaked open. Sheila and Bonnie had stopped their chanting and looked over as well.
"It worked!" Bonnie exclaimed.
"Of course it worked." Grams said.
Damon looked at Stefan, "We have some fires to build."
Stefan looked back at Elena and I then placed his hand on Elena's shoulder, "I'm gonna go get the gasoline, I'll be right back." Elena and I nodded as Stefan left us with the others.
Damon looked at the witches and then over to me, "You ready?"
I gave him a surprised look, "I'm sorry. What?" I don't remember saying anything about walking inside of their myself. I didn't want any part of that.
Damon didn't answer me and he continued to look at Bonnie and Sheila, "You think I'm gonna go in there by myself so you can seal me in?" Damon grabbed my arm.
Grams took a slight step forwards, "Don't take her in. I'll bring the walls down."
"You'll bring the walls down if I don't. You think I trust you?" Damon questioned her.
Grams was practically glaring at Damon, "As much as I trust you."
Elena cut in, "Enough. Both of you. Look, he needs leverage. He needs to know that you're not going to shut the door when he gets inside."
I sighed and nodded, "Fine. I'll go in too."
Damon let go of my arm, grabbed a torch and said to the witches, "May I?" I gave the three women in front of me a reassuring nod as I followed Damon inside of the tomb.

Damon walked ahead of me and he was cautiously looking around. I had a flashlight that I looked around with instead of a torch. Knowing me, I would end up accidentally dropping it and setting myself on fire. I wasn't always the most coordinated person. I heard whispers from all around me, but I didn't comment on them.
"Where is she?" Damon asked no one in particular. We got to a more spacious place and Damon took off leaving me behind.
I called out after him, "Damon!" He disappeared from my sight completely and I tried to navigate myself around. I froze in my tracks when I heard a very familiar scream. It was Elena and it was coming from in here, but how? I thought she was outside. I rushed to where I heard the scream come from. I saw Anna standing over Elena. Elena's wrist was in the grip of a desiccated vampire. I ran over and kicked Anna down.
The girl yelped and screamed, "No!" Stefan suddenly came out of nowhere and pulled Elena up.
He pushed her and I towards the exit, "Go. Go. I'm right behind you," He looked at me, "Charlotte, get her out of here." I nodded and grabbed Elena's hand as I speeded us out of there. Elena was fully out of the tomb and I tried to step out, but found that I couldn't.
I looked up at Sheila and Bonnie with a confused look, "What is this?" They continued to stare at me and Stefan joined me at the entrance.
Elena looked at us in confusion, "Stefan, Charlotte, what are you doing?"
"It's gonna be okay. We'll fix it." Bonnie told Elena, reassuringly.
I cut in, "I would like to know what 'it' is!"
"We can't..." Stefan trailed off and I looked at him in confusion.
"Can't? Can't what?" Elena asked.
Bonnie was the one to answer, "The spell's still up. We can't get them out yet."
"What?" I inquired with wide eyes. I did not sign up to be stuck in a tomb full of desiccated vampires. At least, I don't remember signing up for it.
Elena looked at Stefan, "You went in there not knowing if you could come back out?" Stefan didn't answer and looked down at the floor, "Oh, my God."
"I heard you scream." Stefan stated.
I glanced at both Stefan and Elena, "You know that we can't leave Damon in there. We promised him that we wouldn't."
Stefan nodded, "I know."
"Even if we're able to break through the seal, we won't be able to hold it for long." Sheila spoke up. Stefan nodded slightly and went off to find Damon. I didn't want to go back in the tomb, that was not my plan. I knew though that Damon wouldn't come willingly. So that's when I decided to do something.
I took off inside of the tomb and I heard Elena calling out for me. I finally found the to people that I was looking for. "Damon!" I called out. Damon looked past Stefan and to me. I gave him a pleading look, "Damon, please... We need to get out of here," Damon seemed to think about it for a moment before finally agreeing. He walked past us and Stefan and I trailed behind him. We exited the tomb and I saw the torches had died out. Bonnie and Sheila seemed to be struggling to keep the door open. The door had closed and the two witches stopped chanting. Damon walked out into the woods looking absolutely miserable so I did the only thing I knew to do. I followed after him and wrapped him up in a hug. He hesitantly hugged back and I rested my head on his shoulder, "I'm so sorry."
