{19} Logan Scum Fell

"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET," Logan replied.

"For what?" Damon shot back defensively.

Logan crouched down in front of Damon, "You made me like this."

"I killed you. I didn't turn you," Damon once again, shot back defensively. Damon pried a bullet out from his chest, then pried one out of my chest as well. Logan held a wooden bullet up and examined it.

"See I know what you three Salvatores are. I've been watching the three of you. I knew you'd show up here and I'm glad you did because I have some questions," Logan explained.

I— being the bold person I am (not)—decided to correct Logan, "Actually, my last name's Fray, not Salvatore."

Damon pried another bullet from his chest, and then from me again, as he spoke, "I'm asking first. Who turned you?"

Logan crouched down, his face close to Damon's, "How should I know? Last thing I remember is, I'm about to stake your brother and then you grabbed me. That's it! Until I wake up in the ground behind a used car dealership on Highway 4. Somebody buried me."

"It happens," Damon pried a bullet from his leg, "Ow."

"You bit me."

Damon examined the wooden bullet that he pulled from his leg, "Damn it."

"It had to be you."

"You have to have vampire blood in your system when you die. I didn't do that. Some other vampire found you, gave you their blood," Damon explained, groaning and falling back to the floor once he tried to pull out another one. He began to just pull mine out, and he did so while talking to Logan.

"Who?"

"That's what I wanna know," Damon fired back.

"Dude, it's not like the welcome wagon was waiting with a bundt cake and a handbook. It's been a learn as you go process. You know, one minute, I'm a small town on the rise news guy and next thing I know, I can't get into my house, because my foot won't go through the door," Logan explained.

Damon sat up and once he got all of the bullets out of me (bless his heart), he began to take his own out. "You have to be invited in."

"I know. I live alone," Logan explained.

"Ah," Damon chuckled, "That sucks."

"So now, I am at the Ramada, watching pay per view all day, eating everything in sight, including housekeeping," Logan explained.

"Well, it's not our fault that you're killing on sight. So don't whine to us about it," I said, exasperated. This guy was the most annoying, idiotic man I had ever met in my life. Now I see why he went into television: he had the looks but not the brain.

"Yeah, it could be worse," Damon added.

"All I can think about is blood and killing people. I can't stop killing people. I keep killing," Logan chuckled creepily, "and I like it. I'm conflicted."

"Welcome to the club," Damon and I both said at the same time, causing us both to turn at each other, give a satisfied nod, and then turn back to a confused Logan. Logan finally stood up out of our faces.

"Wait a minute. Cops only found one body," Damon explained.

"I left one. I was tired. But I've been hiding the rest of bodies. They're right back there," Logan pointed to his pile of bodies that seemed to be piling up. Damon and I looked over, both shocked and disgusted.

"You're kidding," Damon replied in disbelief softly.

"They're just piling up!"

"Why am I so overly emotional? All I can think about is my ex-girlfriend. I wanna be with her and bite her and stuff," Logan started.

"Nobody car-" I started, but I was cut off by Damon speaking.

"Well, you probably love her. Anything you felt before will be magnified now. You're gonna have to learn how to control that," Damon explained.

"What about walking in the sun? I'm a morning person. You guys can walk in the sun which, by the way, is pretty cool," Damon and I together both sorry of covered our rings with our other hand. "The council will never suspect you guys. That's not in the journals," Logan explained.

"The journals?" Damon and I both said in unison again, causing us to look at each other weirdly this time. This was getting freaky.

"Yeah, the founding fathers, they passed down journals to their kids. Come on man, you gotta tell me. How can you walk around in the sun?"

"Who turned you?"

"How do you walk in the sun?"

"Who turned you?"

Back and forth, back and forth. I was getting whiplash listening to these two talk together. But finally, Logan broke the string, "You know, I've been really nice so far but I will kill you." He stood up and pointed the gun at Damon.

"Then you'll never know," Damon stood up, then helped me up, "You're not answering my question."

"You first!"

"It seems we're at a bit of an impasse then, doesn't it?" Damon shot at him.

"I have things to do, people to kill. Guess I'll be needing a little head start." With that, Logan shot Damon and me a couple more times. He left while we fell to the floor, groaning in pain. Well this is just perfect, isn't it?

We were waiting for Logan at the intersection, and once he stopped, we ambushed him. Well... Stefan did. He opened the door and pulled Logan out of the car, throwing him on the pavement. Logan got up, but Damon came out shooting a gun at Logan who once again fell to the placement.

"Payback's a bitch, isn't it?" Damon said before he turned to Stefan, "Get the girls out of here." I sent him a pleading look, a look asking to stay with him because I was there at the beginning, I should be there to finish him off. Damon only gestured to Stefan, who had Caroline and was only waiting on me to leave.

I begrudgingly left with Stefan, taking Caroline home. We were silent most of the way, only with the occasional chit-chat. Once we got Caroline inside and into bed though, we began to talk as we left the house. "So... I haven't seen you since you left today. What happened?"

"I found a picture of Damon's... Let's just say that I may have overreacted just a bit," I said softly with a light chuckle. "I knew about Katherine and how she looked just like Elena. I shouldn't have expected any less than to look at the picture and see myself. But I did expect less. I thought maybe somehow we looked different in some way, but she looked like me in every single way in the book."

Stefan nodded, "Yeah, I guess I can understand that. It must've been hard seeing Corinthia's picture for the first time. I didn't even know Damon still had that old thing. I guess he would, it was the first picture he had ever taken of a lady, and he did fancy her back then. But I think that she is nothing compared to you, Char. You aren't her, and she'll never be you. She'll never be good enough to even be considered like you."

"Thank you," I nodded, not being able to find the words to thank Stefan. He definitely eased most of the worries, he always knew how to make me feel better in his little big brother way. I guess it did make sense then, Damon had taken that picture after all, and if he really liked Corinthia more than me he wouldn't have complimented me back in the '90s.

Stefan went back to school, and I decided to head home after the long day I've had. I went to bed and fell asleep, needing the rest. I woke up to a kiss to my forehead and a presence beside me that slowly began to leave. Someone was walking away from me.

I sat up, only to find it was Damon. He must've not wanted to bother me while I was asleep, but instead, he woke me up. I wouldn't tell him that though, I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings. "Why did you have that picture of Corinthia?" I asked him simply.

"I took that picture of her years ago. It was the first picture I'd ever taken, and the first picture of a woman I'd taken. I felt like I could keep it," Damon simply explained, taking a seat at the edge of my bed.

"Do you think of her every time you look at me?"

"No. What I think of every time I look at you is a woman I know that I don't deserve in my life," Damon replied back, brushing some hair out of my face. He seemed genuine about all of it.

"Was Corinthia better than me?"

"I can't say that she was. Corinthia was... Something, you could say. She was adventurous. Rebellious. But she wasn't you. You, Charlotte, are independent, caring, clever. Something that Corinthia never was," Damon explained to me.

"Do we know why she looks like me?"

"Sadly, we don't. We don't even know why Elena looks like Katherine. But we're hoping to get there," Damon explained. "I just want you to know, that Corinthia is nothing compared to you, alright? With Corinthia she never went out of her way for me, she never cared enough. I was the one who did the heavy lifting, always. But you... You seem to care more about me than my own brother. And that means more to me than any lover I could ever have."

And then I knew... Stefan had told him about our previous conversation.
