Yan Qing x Reader

You're lean back in your chair waiting on your next admission. ICU has been uneventful lately, and your two patients have been stable for a few days now, waiting Ward status orders. It won't be long until they move them to a medical unit.

ER's report on your new patient states a young male, age eighteen, had fallen from the top of a building suffering multiple fractures and lacerations with a severe head injury. Reading through the notes you have taken down over the phone, you attempt to piece it all together. He fell from a ten story apartment building, off his own balcony. But no one else was in the building with him. Was it a suicide attempt? Or was someone there that fled the scene? I guess we will see what the police have to say.

Your phone rings.

"ICU (y/n) speaking."

"Your patient is on the way. Is it just you there tonight?" The charge nurse asks.

"Yeah just me." You reply. Thankfully you only had two other patients.

"Alright if you need help call me, Doctor Manning will be coming with the patient, we don't have a name yet for him."

"Ok, is he stable?" You ask.

"For the most part, he is heavily sedated, he has a CT in the next hour. I can send someone to cover you for that."

"Alright sounds good. Any family with him?" You ask.

"No family, no emergency contacts...it's a sad situation." She replies.

"Sounds like it. Ok, I'll check in soon."

You hang up feeling a little sick to your stomach over the situation. For some reason you are feeling unsettled about it all. You take your prepared chart and start getting his room set up. As you finish plugging in the IV pump and sat monitor, your patient comes into the room on a stretcher. He has two nurses with him and Doctor Manning. You glance at them, and everyone shares a moment of silence for the poor kid before they get him situated into his room. You help lift him off the stretcher and onto the bed then set up his IV to your pump and sat monitor. Everything is stable, the paramedics and ER team did a great job. You thank the nurses and see them off before closing the curtains turning your attention towards the doctor and patient.

"So, head injury? Any internal bleeding?" You ask.

Doctor Manning glances at you as he checks his pupils with a small flashlight.
"I'm not sure yet, we will see what the scans say. He came here in bad condition, we didn't think he was going to make it. But he somehow pulled through...his body is healing itself at an unnatural rate." He looks at me intensely. "I need to run more tests. He had a small fracture in his scaphoid and it's gone! Fully healed, like it never happened."

You take a minute to analyze what he was saying. Normally bone fractures take weeks to heal. This is very strange... unless he had help.

"That's strange. He has a CT? Are you using contrast?" I ask.

"Yes, if you could get a twenty gauge IV in and push some fluids as soon as possible that would be great. I can help you take him down there. I'd like to see what it says. But I have two patients to see in ER I need to see right away. Call me when you're ready ok?." He says.

"Sounds good." You reply while pulling out a needle from its package.

He writes down a few notes and briskly walks away leaving you alone with the kid. You look at him as you begin to set the IV in place. He was beat up pretty bad, his face bruised and swollen almost as if he was in a fight earlier. As you take his hand and turn it to expose the vein you notice markings on the top in red. You pause in shock. There were three markings embedded into his skin, you run your thumb over them feeling mana surging into your own hand. You know exactly what they are.

"Command seals...shit." You whisper.

"So you're a mage too then?" A silvery voice speaks in front of you and the chair beside the bed jerks slightly. You jump and let out a small yelp. And before your eyes a man appears. He wears a black unzipped hoodie and black baggy pants with white wraps around the ankles and slippers. He has no shirt on underneath the hoodie, revealing a perfectly toned chest and abs covered in rose tattoos. You can feel your eyes widen at his facial features, you have never seen a man so delicately handsome in your life. He has black long straight hair tied in the back, you aren't much for long hair on men but god damn he has changed that preference in seconds.

You stare at him and he smiles back at you.

"I didn't mean to scare you." He laughs. "Sorry."

You snap out of your shock and try to think of a response.
"Umm...I...it's ok." You reply.

He nods.

"Can you tell me what happened?"

"Yeah..." he lowers his head. "I failed to protect my master."

He doesn't really need to explain anything else. That sentence alone tells you enough, it would seem another servant got the better of them.

"Hmmm." You look back over at your patient. "well...he's in good hands." You reply and carry on setting the IV.

"So it would seem. You know what I am then?" He asks inquisitively tilting his head watching you tape off the tube so it doesn't slide around.

You glance at him, trying not to make too much eye contact, even looking at him makes you shaky and flushed with heat. Not a good combination while starting an IV.

"Yeah." You say.

"I don't see any command seals on those hands of yours. Was it a failed attempt at summoning?" He snickers. And that stirs up some painful memories for you. The last war you witnessed nearly cost you your life. You were ten at that age, and the entire city went up in flames. You lost everything that mattered to you in those flames. You swore to never participate in the war, and after their deaths, you made a promise to yourself to save as many people as you could.

"I didn't even try." You quietly snapback.

He raises a brow.
"And why is that? You're a strong mage, you could have a good chance at winning."

"The last war took everything from me. I am here to save lives not take them." You reply coldly, shooting him an icy glare.  He lowers his eyes analyzing your words and sits back in his seat.

The phone rings at your desk, and you walk away leaving him to his thoughts.

"Hello?"

"We're ready in CT."

"I'll be right there." You hang up the phone and look over to your patient lying there lifeless. What would a boy this young want with the holy grail anyway?

You approach the bedside again ignoring his servant and hook his IV to the bed then unlatch the breaks.
"What's going on?" He asks.

"We need him in CT right away. He's going for a head scan." You reply.

"Ok." He stands up pushing his chair back and out of the way.

You shake your head.
"You can't come sorry."

He raises another brow and points to his master with his thumb.
"I go everywhere with him. That servant could be back to finish the job, he will need protection."

You weren't going to argue with that. It's not like you were in any position to take on a servant yourself, so keeping this man close to you is probably your safest bet.

"Alright, Stay by my side and don't get in the way. I suggest doing that invisible thing you do though. If someone sees you, you will have to answer questions." You reply.

"Of course." He nods and disappears just as doctor Manning rushes in with your nurse relief. He comes to the beside opposite you and grabs the railing and you both begin to wheel him out of ICU and down the hallways to CT.

"Any changes?" Doctor manning asks.

"Not that I've seen. But I'll do a vitals check when we get back." You reply.

He nods and you coast your patient into the CT room. You meet with the tech and give him a quick run down of the situation with the doctor.

"(Y/N) you can head back to ICU. I'll get the porter to bring him back. If you could hang some potassium in ringers that would be great." Doctor Manning says.

You agree and head back to your pod, feeling the presence of a supernatural being beside you...watching you.

"Do you always stare?" You ask.

He chuckles at getting caught.
"You are a pretty girl, I'm sure you get looks all the time."

You roll your eyes.
"More than I'd like." You reply. "Do you think this servant you had so much trouble with is going to come here?"

"Possibly. If he followed us then he would know where we are. Stay close to me, I'll keep you safe." He brushes his fingers down your lower back sending a small shiver through you.

You clear your throat trying your best not to think anything of his touch. From what you heard, servants have a knack for swooning ladies with their ridiculously ripped bodies and undeniable good looks. So you brush it off like it was nothing.

"Well this is as far as I go." He says. "See you soon babe."

You flip him the finger behind your back as you walk away down the hallway.

Approaching ICU, you immediately sense a strong force of mana. You stop instinctively and begin to gather your own mana in your magic circuits. It would be wise to go into ICU on the defense ready for a fight. You open the doors and look around. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, but the power source is still there...somewhere. Being aware of your surroundings you begin to check the vitals of your other patients making sure they haven't been disturbed. Nothing seems to happen while you do your checks, until you sit down to start charting at your desk. The chair beside you pulls out on its own and something invisible sits down in it. You freeze, staring at the phone in front of you wishing you could telepathically dial 911. You lift a hand towards it.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." A man's voice says to you and a large dagger slides across your upper thigh below the desk.

You take a deep breath. And it shakes out then you lower your hand.
"What do you want?"

"I'm here to finish what I started." He replies, still invisible.

"Is that what a hero does? Kill children?" You turn your head in his direction and he materializes much closer to you than you anticipated. You stop breathing for a second as your eyes take in his looks. Tall and handsome, bronze skin with  white hair, and an even better body than the other servant you just encountered. Dammit why are they so good looking?

"I do as I am ordered to do by my master." He replies in monotone. But the look in his eyes tells you differently.

"Really...I can't let you kill him." Your voice shakes at the end of your sentence as you try to show strength against him.

He chuckles.
"You're in no position to stop me. As strong as you are, you are no master and have no servant to take me on." He slides the knife up to your chest and he rests his arm on the desk challenging your glare.

"If you kill me, you not only have that child's blood on your hands but everyone else in this room." You pierce his eyes with yours not blinking. His brows furrow and concern washes over his face, he dematerializes his blade and sits back in his chair. Then you do something completely out of character, something that risks your own life. You swing your chair so you are now facing him, and snatch his shirt in both hands then pull him in close.

"Let's get something straight... in no way will you cause harm to anyone in my hospital. This is a place for healing, and I won't let you hurt anyone! So get the fuck out of my ICU and take your shit outside or I will throw you out the goddam window myself!" You seeth through your teeth letting go of some mana. The magic burst from you causes the printer to short out and your computer screen to shatter. He looks around then back at you and smiles.

"Alright, I won't cause any problems for you. But only because I respect what you do here and how protective you are for your patients, it is admirable." He takes your hands in his. "Too bad you weren't my master, we would make a good team."

You laugh at him and let him go.
"If I were your master I would make you stab yourself for hurting an eighteen year old boy."

He snarls at your comment.
"It's not like I have a choice. Command seals are command seals sweetheart. You know that."

And you realize how harsh you're being. He was right in that he has to follow his orders. He really has no other choice.

"You're right..I take that back, if I were your master we would find a better way around it." You reply quietly.

"And that's why I wish you were." He sighs and stands. "But you're not."

The phone rings. We both glance at it and he waves his hand for you to answer it.

"(Y/N), ICU."

"The scan is finished, we're bringing him back."

You look up and wave your hand motioning him to get the hell out of here. He smiles and salutes you, then disappears.

"Ok thank you." You hang up the phone and let out a heavy breath you had been holding the entire time.

"Fuck sake." You curse.

It wasn't long before doctor Manning and your patient were back rushing through the door. You follow them to the bedside.

"How did it go?" You ask the doctor.

"It was...clean...nothing wrong." He looks puzzled.

With a servant to master healing of course he would be better in no time.

"I don't get it, this kid is a miracle, he shouldn't even be alive right now. If it weren't for the heavy sedation he'd be up and walking!" Doctor Manning says, examining his vitals.

"Well that's great news doctor Manning. I know you're busy, why don't you let me take it from here." You reply hurrying him out.

He sighs. "Alright, Thank you (Y/N). Any changes let me know. I've already written orders for processing."

You nod and watch him leave taking the chart from his hands. You sit in the chair beside the bed and begin to review his orders.

Decrease morphine to 2.5mg IV

Medazolam 0.1mg/kg IV

......

As you read down the lengthy list, that sweet talking servant appears, standing in front of you. You look up at him, it is hard not to gawk at his entire body. You sigh, wishing you could touch him just once. You've never felt abs like that before. He seems to notice you drawing the outlines of his body with your eyes and he moves a bit closer to you, and that is when you get a whiff of his scent. A mixture between musky sandalwood and vanilla. Intoxicating...

"Do you always stare?" He asks mimicking you and you quickly snap out of the heaven you are in.

You scowl back at him and continue to flip through the pages of the chart. He chuckles at you.

"Maybe after this, we could go out sometime?" He asks with a devious grin.

You scoff back at him and change the subject.
"You know...you just missed the servant that put you here."

His eyes widen in shock.
"What?".

You lower the chart and smirk at him.
"That's right, I met him, tall, white hair, carries daggers. Yeah..." You reply in a snarky tone.

"I don't believe you, he would have killed you instantly." He crosses his arms shaking his head.

"Well he didn't. I told him to leave and he did. You two can take your fight elsewhere. This is not the place!"

"So he just left?..." You nod. "Nothing happened?... you shake your head. "Did he say anything?"

"Yes, he said he respected me for protecting my patients and he wishes I was his master." You reply keeping a close watch on his reaction to the last part of your sentence. Well, he didn't like that one bit as jealousy shoots through his eyes.

"I bet he does." He scowls. "I respect you for what you do too. This can't be an easy job."

"It's not, it's only easy when your patients come in healing themselves with a servant." You wink at him. He laughs.

"Well... you're here for awhile so make yourself comfortable. If you need sleep I have a bed in the back room you can rest in. Unfortunately I have no food, so you'll have to take care of that yourself." You say and stand closing the chart. "Have a seat." You wave your hand towards the chair.

"Thank you." He replies.

He reluctantly sits down leaning back, draping his broad shoulders over the back of it. You quickly divert your attention away so as not to make it obvious you're completely enamored by his good looks and make your way to the front desk. You take your seat and begin to clean up the mess you made while unleashing some mana on that servant. It wasn't long before "Romeo" was at your side again begging for attention.

He slams himself into the chair beside you and wheels it up close enough for his knees to touch yours. He leans over the desk watching you.

"My name is Yan Qing." He reaches his hand out to yours.

You look at him then at his hand and shake it.
"(Y/N)."

"So how about that date?"
