SE.RA.PH - second ballet: should you pull
The rerun of the fate extra CCC collab is just about a week away as of the time I'm starting this so I figured I should do a little should you roll on the two event banners for the event along with a should you raise on the events welfare servant.
So as I mentioned above the rerun, much like the original, has two banners how we this time around neither of them feature kiara so if you wanted the Lewd nun this time around, I'm sorry to say that you're gonna have to wait a while yet. We do however have the return of a fan favorite servant in meltryillis and an all new alter ego servant in king protea.
1) should you roll: first banner.
So the first banner for SE.RA.PH will release on the first day of the event and will last until the event ends. There are five servants on rate up here: meltryillies, passionlip, EMIYA (alter), Suzuka Gozen, and Robin Hood.
1): Robin Hood: Robin Hood (3-star archer) really doesn't factor into whether or not you should roll on this banner, he's not story locked and chances are you've already got an NP5 Robin sitting pretty in your Chaldea from back when you needed a strong archer to 1-turn nuke saber bosses in part one of the fate grand order story.
2): Suzuka gozen: Suzuka gozen is one of, if not the best, AOE buster SR sabers in the game but she's non-limited which means she can technically spook you at any time when rolling other banners, I mean back in 2019 I rolled on the original banner and got one Suzuka and in two years (well just under that but still) I've obtained two additional copies of her. If you really love Suzuka then rolling for her here isn't a bad investment but personally I wouldn't roll just for her.
3): EMIYA (alter): EMIYA (alter) was a 4-star story-locked servant introduced back at the beginning of 2019 with the release of Shinjuku. As far as single target arts archers go he's by and large one of the best at spamming his np but he lacks damage compared to the large pool of other archers even if he can spam his np. Personally I think EMIYA (alter) lacks damage consistently at low np levels and, as a story locked servant, it is incredibly hard to get multiple copies of him unless you roll him on banners like this one. I don't think he's really all that worth rolling for but if you already have him and you want his damage to be a little better then maybe throwing some quartz at this banner won't be such a bad idea especially once we discuss the two servants who really make rolling on this banner worth it.
4); passionlip: passionlip was one of the three debut alter ego servants and, up until the release of mecha Eli-Chan, she was the only 4-star one. Now luckily for our good friend passionlip, mecha Eli-Chan serves a very different role from her however this role isn't exactly a good one. Passionlip is an AOE buster alter ego who's whole kit is based around absorbing hits with taunts of defense ups so that she can charge her noble phantasm. Her first problem is that she's a limited servant and at low np levels her damage isn't going to be anything you couldn't achieve with welfare servants such as Ishtar (rider) who also provide some form of offensive team support. Passionlip is a little too clunky of a servant for my taste, on the defensive side she's outclassed by Saint George (2-star rider) and mash (4-star shielder) and on the offensive side she's outclassed by pretty much every single AOE rider/caster/assassin servant to be released short of Nitocris (assassin). Since she's an alter ego she can't even really be brought against 4 of the main classes in the game and sabers and archers are fairly common enemy classes.
5): meltryillis: and now we get to the true star of this banner: the five star alter ego, meltryillis. Meltryillis is hands down one of the best single target servants in the game to date especially when dealing with buff heavy opponents. Her np, sarasvati meltout, is a quick np (which means it's gets its damage pumped up to eleven by skadi) and it removes all of the opponents Buffs which makes it great for challenge quests where the opponents stacks removable buffs. Her damage is unchallenged within her class (with the only real competition being mecha Eli-Chan who can pump out one or two good burst turns before being a gorilla shaped brick) and at high np levels she can tango with the three classes that RESIST her. Her main drawback is that she doesn't exactly play nice with offense oriented teammates, her S3 weakens her allies np strength (along with the enemies but it's so minimal that it probably won't matter) while increasing her own so if your planning on chaining her np to say, rider Ishtar, then you won't be putting up the same numbers. On top of all this, meltryillis is the premier foreigner killer as she's one of the only unit in the game (kiara struggles and sitonai requires a certain amount of luck) who can loop her np against bosses with multiple break bars or guts (looking at you Salem memorial quest). At the end of the day meltryillis is still an alter ego and has plenty of competition who can beat her out in the damage category (quetzcoatl, ozymandius, Queen of Sheba, Jack the Ripper, king Hassan, and many other servants can all put out high numbers and some of them can even loop their np with proper support) but her versatility is what makes her worth it, especially if you have a skadi in your Chaldea.
Conclusion: should you roll: personally I think this banner relies pretty heavily on the presence of meltryillis and if you have her and are happy with her performance already then there's really no need to roll or if you have other single target servants who fill her role and you really don't want her then there isn't much of a point. Suzuka and EMIYA (alter) are both strong 4-stars but they're also not really worth throwing saint quartz at if you have servants like Altria (alter), and basically any single target archer. Passionlip isn't bad necessarily but she's definitely not worth raising and, like I said already, Robin isn't really even a factor. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you lack a strong quick single target loop-capable servant then yes, you should absolutely roll on this banner but if that's not what your looking for then maybe you should save your quartz
Banner rating: 3/5 (solely for melt and Suzuka)
Should you roll: second banner
The second banner for this event won't start for a while after the event starts but it features the all-new servant king protea who has a rather unique skill set.
1) Gawain: the first servant we need to talk about is the 4-star AOE buster saber Gawain. I don't really want to compare him directly to Suzuka but I kinda have to since their on banners so close to each other. Gawain can and will hit harder than Suzuka if all his buffs are active but Suzuka has this great little thing where she produces a metric ton of c-stars with her np which allow her and her teammates to hit some pretty devastated crits on the next turn which (if you're lucky) will let her np again. Gawain also suffers from the fact that his main buff requires a sunny field which he can't set up for himself (until september of 2021) which means his damage isn't as spectacular as it may initially appear.
2) Tristan: Tristan is a quick single target 4-star archer and he's more team support focused than offense based. Tristan can produce a lot of c-stars with his cards and his np and he's got a pretty powerful battery (that comes tied to an np seal for himself which is kinda counter productive), he has a skill which strips buffs and lowers crit chance (al la Jack the rippers skill which does the same thing) and the all important illusion lite, sorry I mean harp of healing. At the end of the day if you want to put up some numbers while also producing stars for crit turns then Tristan isn't a bad choice but if you're just looking to keep your team alive for a little longer with harp of healing then David is a 3-star servant who you get for free after clearing okeanos and he had the exact same skill along with a charisma to push the main damage dealers np damage.
3): king protea: king protea is a 5-star buster AOE alter ego whose kit is basically I Wanna Play As The Boss! King protea's main gimmick is building up a massive hp stockpile (and after the rank up she receives in September 2022, np resists) and then spending them to reduce her skills cooldown and charge her np which she can then use to hit her opponents like a Big Mac truck. While this all sounds cool in theory, at the end of the day she's just a slower AOE gorilla servant whose gonna refuse to die for as long as (in)humanly possible. If you have trouble clearing challenge quests that are against Calvary classes or foreigners because your units keep dying then I present to you king protea, she's the perfect servant for you, however most players don't have such problems unless they're new and so she doesn't really have a proper place in Chaldea outside of niche stall teams with mash/merlin/Hans. On the bright side, she's an incredibly self-sufficient servant who doesn't really require support and can solo with the best of em and she's incredibly fun to use so if you have some saint quartz to spare and aren't saving for Kama then throwing some quartz and protea might not be such a bad idea.
Conclusion: should you roll: this banner is a lot less crowded than its sister banner but the servants on it range from good under the right circumstances to fun to use but mediocre so I can't necessarily recommend rolling on it unless you really need an AOE buster servant than can bulldoze through waves of riders/caster/assassin/foreigners(if dw ever releases a foreigner farming mode which they won't..... hopefully).
Banner rating: 1/5 (king protea is fun to use but she's outclassed by other servants in every role she could perform other than maybe being a solo servant and even then that's only post-rank up, a rank-up she won't receive for over a year.)
Should you raise: BB (4-star)
Conclusion: yes, I don't even need to explain it to you, she's one of the only moon cancers in the game period (even in jp) and she's the best single target to be released to date (in fact she's the only one) plus she provides one of the best support options for servants who debuff themselves (such as Ilya). If you haven't raised BB yet then you need to do it immediately as she's the only consistent way to deal with avenger bosses. Summer BB can outclass her in the support category and summer Kiara will have better loop capability when she's released in two years but until then BB remains the best offense oriented moon cancer in the game. On top of all that she's also the only moon cancer you're guaranteed to get as she's the only welfare and beyond that all 3 other moon cancer units are 5-star (Ganesha, Summer BB, and Summer Kiara)
