Jaeyun watched as Heeseung happily told him about an unexpected promotion he had gotten, watched how Heeseung told him about a huge deal he had made that day. But as much as Jaeyun wanted, he couldn't be happy for him - the thing that Nari told him was the only thing present in Jaeyuns mind, leaving no room for any other thoughts. He had so many questions and not enough answers.
Heeseung noticed Jaeyuns unusual demeanor- he had noticed the moment he stepped out of his office. Everything about Jaeyun just seemed... off. Jaeyuns usual warm and wide smile was replaced by a look of worry and deep thought. His shoulders were slumped, his gaze fixed on the ground - the total opposite of his usual confident posture. Jaeyun didn't make any jokes or kept up the conversation like he always did, his answers were short and laced with an underlying tension.
And even now in the restaurant - the one they met in, the one that became their place - Jaeyun was tense, barely touched his food and kept staring at some empty point far behind Heeseung.
Heeseung sighed and stopped talking, noticing that Jaeyun didn't really listen to him. He reached across the table to take Jaeyuns hands in his own. "Jaeyun, what is going on in that head of yours?", he asked, his voice soft and filled with genuine concern.
Jaeyun tried to muster a smile but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "Nothing, I'm fine.", he said, but his voice was strained, betraying his words. They both knew it was a lie.
There was a moment of silence between them until Heeseung squeezed Jaeyuns hands and began talking again. "Jaeyun, I can see that something is wrong. You're not yourself today and I'm worried about you. You know you don't have to pretend with me.", he said with a reassuring smile, hoping to figure out what weighed Jaeyun down so much.
A heavy sigh escaped Jaeyuns lips, his gaze still avoiding Heeseungs. "Why...", Jaeyun began, his eyes finally meeting Heeseung. "Why didn't you tell me that... Nari is pregnant?"
In an instant Heeseungs smile faltered and his grip on Jaeyuns hand losened. "She is what?"
There was a moment of silence until Jaeyun spoke up again, silent, hesitantly. "You didn't know?", he asked.
Heeseung shook his head, trying to process what he just heard. "Well no, obviously not."
Jaeyun didn't expect this kind of reaction. Actually he didn't know what he expected but definitely not this. But what did it mean? Was Nari just playing some game with them? Or was she really pregnant with Heeseungs child? Whatever it was, Heeseung and Jaeyun they had to talk about it.
The silence between them was heavy and weighed down by an unspoken tension. Heeseungs earlier excitement had vanished completely. Instead his mind was a whirlwind, his thoughts racing without a pause. He knew Jaeyun had questions, legitimate questions, but Heeseung had not a single answer.
In the next moment Heeseung abruptly got up, the chair scraping on the wooden floor. His chest felt tight, his breath came in rapid and shallow bursts. "I-I need some air." And with that he stormed out of the restaurant, unable to register Jaeyuns try to hold him back by his wrist, unable to hear Jaeyun call out his name.
Jaeyun only saw Heeseung disappear, too quick for him to follow.

Hey there, I'm finally back with an update. I'm really sorry I kept you all waiting, it's just that a lot of stuff happened the past weeks. I've been feeling down for quite a while now, struggle with anxieties and yet another burnout. And I've also started my job training and while it is a lot of fun it also means I'm not having as much time as before. But I will do my best to keep this book going and update at least once a week - yet I do not promise anything because I might not be able to keep a promise right now.
But anyway, how have y'all been? :3
