nine

The day had started off like every other day for Jaeyun. He had taken his shower in the morning, had his call with Heeseung and then headed to work. He was in good spirits, excited about going out with Heeseung in the evening.

But one thing, or more - one person, would bring a sense of unease to the peacefulness in Jaeyun.

It was when Jaeyun sat on one of the chairs in the waiting area in front of Heeseungs office. Jaeyun mindlessly scrolled through his phone when he heard footsteps approaching. As he looked up no-one else than Heeseungs ex stood in front of him. For a moment there was a silence between them, heavy and uncomfortable. There was just something about this woman that Jaeyun hated.

Then, finally, she spoke up. "Hey, I'm sorry, you're Jaeyun, right?"

"Yeah, that's me. Why?"

"I'm Nari. You probably... well, you probably know me as Heeseungs ex.", she said, extending her hand in order for Jaeyun to shake it.

Jaeyun looked down at her hand, then up at her again. He felt a sense of unease creep in, something about the way she was speaking made him cautious, like he expected a threat. Like he expected something bad to happen.

Nari noticed that Jaeyun didn't make a move to shake her hand, so she rested it at her side again. "Listen... I've seen you and Heeseung together a lot and well.... Are you two in a relationship?"

Jaeyuns eyes widened slightly in surprise. He didn't know why it was so necessary for her to know. But he answered anyway, hesitantly, but he did. "No, we are not. We are still getting to know each other, just going out, spending time together."

She glanced down at Jaeyun, watching him with an expression Jaeyun couldn't read. "You know, I don't mean to ruin whatever you two have but... are you aware that the day he met you, he called off our wedding for no reason?"

For some reason these words cut deep. Jaeyun only knew they broke up on that day, he never knew Heeseung was even engaged. Jaeyun felt a lump form in his throat and he swallowed hard. But he quickly tried to regain his composure. "In all respect, I do believe there must have been a reason for Heeseung to make such a decision."

"Heeseung has always been making decisions on impulse without thinking them through. And I really don't like the thought that he broke his commitment to me, just because he had to help you out." Nari paused, looking at Jaeyun, waiting for any reaction before continuing. "And he won't be able to leave me forever anyway - sooner or later he has to come back to me."

Jaeyun scoffed and rolled his eyes. "And what makes you believe he would come back? He broke up with you two months ago." He crossed his arms, looking at her, ready to defend himself from the crazyness coming out of this woman's mouth. "If he wanted to go back to you he would've already."

A smirk popped up on Naris lips. "Because he's going to be a dad."

And with that she left.

-----------

Hey there, I'm back again. Sorry it took a while again. I'm kinda struggling and have a lot of stress so this book is sadly coming short. And I also apologize - the chapter isn't as good as I wanted it to be, but right now this is the best I can do. Once I'm better, once I've got more time, I will edit everything so its better than it is now
