Chapter Ten

"Let's see here," Luna says quietly, looking at the screen in front of her. We are all sitting in her office for my ten-week appointment. I am laying on the couch with Erik and Ethan standing next to me, and the twins are watching a movie on Luna's laptop. Luna is currently moving the ultrasound wand around on my stomach, trying to find the baby.

"Hmmm... Oh! There it is!" she exclaims, pointing at the screen. We all turn excitedly to see the tiny baby.

"Wait, what?" Ethan says, squinting at the screen. "That's not a baby. That's a bean."

We all turn to glare at him when he says that. "Seriously, Ethan? A bean?" Erik questions.

Luna just scoffs at us and once again looks at the screen. "It's in the early stages of development, Ethan. It's not exactly going to look like a baby, yet. Just give it a few more weeks and you'll start to recognize your pup."

Turning off the screen, she hands me a tissue to wipe off my stomach. So far there is not a bump. If I had not seen the picture of the baby for myself, then I would not believe that there is a tiny person growing inside me.

Tiredly, I climb off the couch and wrap the giant sweatshirt I am wearing around me even tighter. It is one of my mates, but I do not really care. So far, I always have to have their scent surrounding me. I know they cannot be next to me all the time, so I have taken to wearing their discarded clothing, and they find it hilarious.

"Okay, everything looks healthy, so I won't be seeing you again until your twelve-week appointment," Luna says, turning to face us. "How have you been feeling, Liam?"

"Not too bad, I guess. I have just been really tired lately. Luckily, the morning sickness isn't happening as frequently as before," I say, looking up at her. She smiles at me and nods her head.

"That's good. How has the clinginess been?" she asks, her eyes twinkling. She knows I cannot stand the fact that I have to be surrounded by my mates' scent all the time, and that I have the uncontrollable need to be next to them whenever possible.

"Oh, it's been great," Ethan says, chuckling. Both of my mates have been teasing me relentlessly about my need to be near them. I turn and flick him in the nose before walking over to my sisters. They both passed out sometime during the movie and are sucking sleepily on their pacifiers.

"Well, it will get worse, so make sure to be near him as much as possible. I know it has been hard because of your perimeter duties, but just remember to take care of your mate." Luna gets up and gives us all a hug.

"Yeah, yeah," I mumble, bending down to pick up my sisters.

"No, love, we'll get them," Erik says, gently pushing me towards the door while he and Ethan pick up my sisters.

"You know, I'm pregnant not injured," I say crossing my arms and giving them a hard look. It still feels weird to say that, but I have been getting used to it as the weeks go by.

"Liam, just let us take care of you, okay?" Ethan says. He has Olive in his arms and her head is resting on his shoulder. Erik is holding Grace the same way, and he stays behind with Luna, while Ethan guides me out of the room. "Now, you and I are going to look in the supply closet for anything we may need."

"Um, okay. I think we have everything we need, and what about Erik?" I question, raising an eyebrow at Ethan's odd behavior.

"He's just talking to Luna about something really quick. He'll join us soon," Ethan says with a wide smile, pulling me behind him as we walk towards the supply room.

"Uh-huh," I mumble, squinting my eyes, but I decide to listen to him and look for any supplies we may need. After about ten minutes of looking, I find two new winter coats for the girls, a size too big, but they will work. It is getting cold outside, but I guess that is to be expected for November in Oregon.

"Are you guys ready to go?" I hear Erik ask. Quickly, I turn around and walk towards him, burying my nose in his neck as soon as I am close enough to my mate. Taking a deep breath, I feel some of the tension I did not know was building up in me, melt away.

"Yeah. what were you doing anyway?" I question, wrapping my arms around Erik and Grace.

"O-oh, nothing," he stammers, not meeting my eyes.

"Mhm." I turn from Erik and notice Ethan is acting the same. Neither of them will meet my eyes, but they both have small smiles on their faces. "Let's just go home. I'm tired."

"Yeah, good idea," Ethan says, wrapping his arm around my waist and guiding me towards the door. Erik follows behind, holding all of the supplies I had picked out.

We make our way to our new house. It only takes about a minute to get there, seeing as it is adjacent to the pack house, but I like it, even though we do not have nearly as much privacy as we did at our old house.

It is a light beige color with white trim and a small porch in the front. The front faces the courtyard while the back faces the forest, allowing us to have a tiny bit of privacy while outside.

As we walk in the door, I let out a large yawn and lean down to take off my shoes. I watch as my mates do the same and then take Olive and Grace into their room. Smiling, I walk tiredly into the master bedroom and strip off everything but my boxer briefs. I tiredly climb into the bed and cocoon myself in the blankets, squirming around until I find the perfect position. This consists of having the blankets wrapped tightly around my body and my nose buried in one of my mate's pillows.

"Comfortable, love?" I hear Ethan question. I crack open an eye to see him and Erik standing in the doorway with smiles on their faces.

"Mhm," I mumble, too tired to form words. Closing my eyes once again, I rub my nose along the pillow, the scent causing me to relax even more. They chuckle, but I choose to ignore them and burrow further into the blankets.

"Okay, well, sleep for as long as you want. We don't want you to be exhausted all the time," Erik says.

"Alright."

I hear more chuckling. "Goodnight, Liam."

"G'night," I whisper, eyes already closed and drifting off to sleep.

*****

"Shhh!" I hear someone say in a hushed whisper. "You'll wake him up."

I crack my eyes open and look at the clock on the wall. My eyes widen once I read it. Four in the afternoon? Did I sleep for over four hours? Wow, I really must have been exhausted. This baby is already taking a lot out of me.

"What are you two conspiring about, out there?" I mumble as I stretch my body.

"Oh, love! You're awake!" I hear Ethan say suspiciously loud. Rolling out of bed, I give him a questioning look, but he and his brother just smile at me.

"Why don't you come downstairs? We can fix you up something to eat, or you can just relax and read, or you can-"

"Ethan, why are you rambling?" I question as I pull on my clothes. As soon as I am fully dressed, I follow them downstairs. They each grab one of my hands as we descend the stairs.

"No reason, love." Just as I am about to respond, I hear some rustling.

"Surprise!"

"W-what?" I stammer, taking in the scene before me. Across the back wall is a banner stating 'Happy Birthday, Liam!' and there is a cake on the table, surrounded by small packages wrapped in newspaper. I look at everyone in my living room. Luna is standing there holding Olive with the Alpha standing next to her holding Grace. Other pack members are in the room, but none of them are wolves who I am really close to.

"You did all this for me? How did you even know it was my birthday?" I question, taking in the scene around me.

"Love, why wouldn't we know it's your birthday? We're your mates, we're supposed to know," Ethan says, waving his hands around dramatically.

"Uh huh, so I didn't just tell you guys his birthday was today, yesterday?" Luna says, laughing at their expressions. They both look at me sheepishly before wrapping their arms around me.

"Sorry, Liam. We didn't k now when your birthday was, but as soon as Mom told us, we started to plan this," Erik says, kissing me on the cheek.

"Yeah, we even managed to make the- I mean our mom- managed to make the cake..." Ethan finishes with a blush on his cheeks. I start laughing and give both of my mates a quick kiss on the lips.

"You guys are amazing. I can't believe you planned all this for me. I've never had a birthday party before," I say, disentangling myself from my mates and walking over to the cake and presents. My parents had never done anything like this for me before, and when I turn to look at my mates, I can see the love on their faces.

I walk back over to them and hug them to me as tight as I can. "Thank you so much," I whisper.

"No problem, love," Erik says, and Ethan nods his head.

"Now, let's get onto partying!" Luna says, pulling me over and sitting me on a decorated chair. She and the Alpha place the twins in their high chairs before she hands me my presents. I unwrap a new shirt from Luna ("I specifically told the scouts to grab this kind of shirt. It suits you, and it will stretch throughout the pregnancy."), open a handmade card from Olive and Grace, and finally start to open the present from Ethan and Erik.

I look down at my unwrapped present. It is a picture of the baby. An ultrasound picture of our pup, and it is framed so that it cannot be damaged. I feel the tears gathering in my eyes, and I try to conceal a sniffle as I look up at my mates.

"We thought we should have a picture of the new pup," Erik says.

Noticing my tears, Ethan is quick to console me. "If you don't like it, we can-" I cut him off with a quick kiss.

"No, no. This is perfect," I whisper. "Just perfect."

Smiles spread across their faces as they look at me. This is the best birthday a guy could ask for.
