Chapter Four

The snarls of the captured infected and the loud conversations of the rogue alphas makes it easy for us to get within eighty yards of their camp. Before we left the safety of our own camp, we had made sure to cover our scent by using some easily made pine needle water, as an extra precaution. Now, we just have to wait for the guards to pass by on their rounds in order for us to take them out. As soon as that is done, we will be able to start our plan.

"Okay, they were just passing by when we first got here. They should be making another loop around here any minute now," Jesse mumbles, eyes flickering across the alpha camp in front of us.

"Is that the place where our mate is being held?" Erik asks, pointing at a rundown shack on the complete opposite side of the camp. Jesse and Alexis both nod their heads in confirmation.

"It looks like it is about to fall apart any minute," I whisper. The shack that Erik had pointed at is leaning to the right a little bit, patches of the roof missing and some of the wooden walls looking like they are about to collapse in on themselves.

"Another reason to get them out of there," Alexis says, her voice only loud enough so that we can hear her.

We all nod our heads in agreement, eyes never leaving our target. We sit in silence for a few minutes, anxiously waiting for our opportunity to strike.

"Here they come," Ethan says from my right. My eyes swivel to where he is pointing, and just as he had said, the guards are stepping into view.

"Now, remember the plan. If any of us get off track, then this could all go downhill," Jesse says. I swallow back the anxiety that is trying to climb out.

"Go," Ethan whispers, sending us all into action.

Erik and Ethan creep in the direction of the guards, in charge of taking them out. Jessie runs in the opposite direction once the guards are lying on the ground, making his way over to where the small water tank the alphas use is stored. His footsteps are silent, and we wait until he pours the powdered drug into the water to creep our way over to the cages where the infected are being held.

There are five of these cages surrounding the entire camp, a type of security measure to steer away any wandering infected. All of the captured infected deter any type of beast that may try to get to the alphas, but it will not stop us.

We all get into position, each of us standing behind one of the large cages holding five or more of the infected. This is the hard part. Now we just have to wait until the alphas eat their dinner and drink the water. Seeing as they are all walking in between a small table holding food and the water tank, it should not take too long for the drug to kick in.

Not even twenty minutes later, the ketamine seems to be in full effect. Peeking around the cage of infected, I see six alphas laying on the ground, eyes wide and completely immobile. The others are stumbling around, looking like they are completely unable to control their bodies. They are mumbling to themselves, not paying attention to anything going on around them.

Hearing a soft whistle, I look to my right. Erik is holding his hand up, his fingers slowly ticking down from five. Once he puts the last finger down, I creep in front of the cage and pull out the lock picker that Alexis had given to us. Just like with the ketamine, she had refused to tell us where they had gotten them.

After a few minutes of struggling, I finally manage to get the lock to click open. Carefully, I wiggle the lock free, trying to be as quiet as I can. I walk to the other side of the cage, waiting for the signal to open the doors. I do not have to wait long. As soon as I reach the other side of the cage, I hear the whistle that is our signal to swing open the cage doors. Not wasting a single second, I grab the handle and wrench the door open, easily climbing on top of the cage before the infected have a chance to notice that I am the one who freed them from their confinement.

Luckily, the top of the cage has a thick piece of wood tied to the top, making it easy for me to dodge the reaching hands of the infected.

The growls of wolves pull my attention away from the infected stumbling out of the cage I am crouched on. Five wolves of various sizes and colors come lumbering towards the escaped infected, not even bothering to look at us.

In just a matter of seconds, the wolves come running towards the infected at full speed. An auburn wolf charges one of the snarling infected less than three feet away from me. Not bothering to slow down, the wolf leaps at the infected's throat, causing both of them to crash into my cage, effectively causing me to fall off.

"Oh shit," I mumble, quickly rolling off my back and onto my feet.

"You okay?" Ethan calls from my left. Looking over, I see him climbing down the cage once his own infected are far enough away. Dodging the fighting wolf and infected, I sprint over to his side.

"Yeah. Just caught me by surprise, is all." He nods his head and we both look over to see how the others are doing.

Jesse is the farthest away from us, fighting off a snarling wolf with a baton that looks like the kind police used to use. He seems to be holding his own, dodging every snap of the alpha's jaws and countering with his own hits.

Erik is staring at us from the top of his cage. Looking around him, I see that he cannot safely get down. The infected and two wolves are fighting around him, making it impossible for him to climb down and join the fight without being mauled by either a wolf or an infected.

"Should we help him out?" I ask, turning my gaze away from Erik to meet the eyes of his brother.

"I don't kno-" he is cut off by loud cries coming from the left of us.

"Oh my god," I whisper, so shocked by the sight in front of me that I cannot seem to move. It is Liam being dragged by his hair by a greasy looking alpha.

"That fucker," is the last thing I hear from Ethan. Looking over, I see that he is not in human form anymore. Instead, in his place is a honey blonde wolf, and looking over at where Erik was standing before, I see an identical looking wolf.

Ethan growls, baring his teeth at the offending alpha. He does not waste another second by my side. He and his brother are huge in their wolf forms, bigger than the other alpha werewolves fighting around us. In just a few strides, they reach the alpha who has a handful of Liam's hair, lunging at him once they are close enough.

All I see is the alpha fall to the ground before my attention is snapped away. Something grabs my arm. Whipping around, I face my attacker, but see that it is just Alexis. Seeing my clenched fist, she raises a dark brow at me.

"We don't have time for this. Come on," she says, pulling me along with her in the direction of the worn down shack where the omegas are being held. Jesse is already there, kicking in the door before rushing inside.

"Jesse? What the hell?" a small male omega says from the other side of the shack.

"Micah, we don't have time to argue. We have to go before someone notices us over here," Jesse says, walking over to the omega and picking him up. They continue to argue in hushed tones, but I tune them out.

Looking around, I cannot find Taylor and my heart starts to race. Where could he be? He has to be in here. My eyes stop on the crumpled form lying on the ground. Quickly, I run over, dropping to my knees by his side.

"Taylor?" my voice cracks. He does not answer me.

"Tatum, come on, we have to go," Alexis says from behind me.

"Oh god, Taylor," I say again, sliding my hands beneath his still form in order to pick him up. I cradle him against my chest, sighing in relief once I see his chest rise and fall with his breathing. "I'm going to get you out of here."

With him in my arms, I follow the others out of the shack. Looking over the camp, I see that all of the alphas are taken out and only a few of the infected are still alive. They seem too distracted by the fresh flesh, though, to come after us. They don't even turn their heads when we hurry by them in order to get away from the ransacked camp as fast as possible.

"Looks like Ethan and Erik were able to get their mate," Jesse says, nodding his head over towards the two wolves walking on either side of Liam, guiding him away from the camp and into the woods. "Better catch up with them before they wander off too far."

Together, we make our way out of the shack, heading over to Liam and his mates.

A low groan causes me to look down at the omega in my arms. Taylor's brown eyes blink open, one of them looking like it might swell up with the blossoming bruise surrounding it. He looks around, his eyes taking everything in and widening once they land on me.

"Tate?" he whispers, reaching a shaky hand up to rub against my stubbly cheek.

Turning my head, I place a soft kiss onto his palm, nuzzling into his familiar touch. "Hi, lovely."

"You saved us?"

"Well, I had a little help," I say, nodding towards the others. Looking away from my face, Taylor's eyes land on Jesse and Alexis.

"Wait." He looks around, squirming out of my grip. Reluctantly, I set him down on his own two feet, wanting to pull him back into my arms every time he winces as he moves. "Where's Liam?"

"We're meeting up with them, shouldn't be too long until we intercept them," I say, wrapping my arm around his waist and encouraging him to lean on me so it will not be as painful for him to walk.

"We have to get to him quick, Tate," he tells me, putting one arm around my shoulders and the other holding onto his ribs. "He's in labor and the baby could come anytime in the next few hours. We have to get him someplace safe."

"Okay, okay," I say, trying to calm him down a little bit. It won't do us any good if he ends up hurting himself even more in his rush to get to Liam. "We're getting close, just calm down, lovely."

"I won't calm down until I see that he's safe." He looks at me, his brown eyes showing his stubbornness that I know and love.

Shaking my head, I place a kiss on the top of his head, not deterred by the dirt and sweat caked into his brown locks. I push myself to go a little faster, catching up with the others who are ahead of us.

We stop once we reach the others, seeing them watching something in front of us, as if wary to go any further in the direction they were walking. Catching up with them, I see what they are staring at. Liam is kneeling on the ground, his hands wrapped around his pregnant belly, and his mates look at him worriedly, looking unsure about what to do.

Taylor steps out of my arms, walking towards Liam and his mates. "We need to get him away from here. The baby is going to be here soon."

Both Erik and Ethan turn, growling at Taylor as he approaches them, obviously not recognizing him in their worried state. Liam lets out a pain filled whimper, looking up at his friend. Happy relief passes over his face once he lays eyes on Taylor. He must have been worried about the other omegas, even though he has something else that should be taking all of his attention.

"T-Taylor?" Liam stammers. He heaves in a deep breath, his body relaxing as the most recent contraction passes. Taylor closes the distance between them but stops once he notices the twins' glares. He does not break their gaze until Liam starts talking again. "You're awake."

Taylor bends down in order to pull Liam up, which must be a difficult task seeing as he can barely keep himself standing. "Yes, and we need to move."

Erik and Ethan press against Liam's sides, taking most of his weight and allowing Taylor to stumble back over to me. As soon as he is close enough, I draw him into my body again, pressing a quick kiss to his forehead before allowing him to pull back enough to walk.

"He's right," Liam says, looking in between his mates. "I can't have the baby here."

This seems to get through to the twins, and they start nodding furiously in agreement and understanding.

"We have a place," Ethan says, eyes not moving away from Liam's. Taylor looks up at me, his brown eyes questioning. I nod my head, telling him that we have found a safe place for us to stay. Well, the safest place we could find on such short notice.

"Okay, let's move," Taylor says from my side. Liam nods his head, grimacing as another contraction seems to start. Together, we all start walking in the direction of the house we had found a couple days ago. It should only take us a couple of hours to reach our new home, but I want to get there as quick as possible.

We had to leave the little ones behind in the house, and honestly, I have been uncomfortable leaving Elliot alone with just Meeka and the girls ever since I stepped out of the door. But, it was something we had to do. It would have been even more dangerous for us to bring them with us, for both them and us. They just would have distracted us and could have gotten killed during the fighting. The pros of leaving them in the house alone far outweighed the cons. Now, I just cannot wait to get back. My worry will not be appeased until I see that they are safe with my own two eyes.

A grunt from behind me causes me to turn my head. Liam is hunched over in pain, his whole body clenched tight as a contraction works its way through his body. If we don't make it back to the house in time, Liam will have to have the baby out here. That would not be safe for either of them.

Looking down at Taylor, I see that he has a worried look on his face. Meeting my eyes, I give him a tight smile, trying to reassure him, but it does little to calm him.

"We need to move faster, come on," he says, causing all of us to pick up the pace. Ethan and Erik take turns carrying Liam the rest of the way, not putting him down until we are only a few minutes away from the house.

"Okay, time for you to have a baby," Taylor says, looking over at his friend. Liam answers him with a groan
