Nina returned to her quarters. Eva's department was unaffected by the drama, so Nina was alone.

She set her official Brunel datapad down and picked up her personal datapad and terminal, together with a pouch of data chips which may, or may not, have contained highly illegal code and tools.

With these, she also collected an array of physical interface adaptors, and some lengths of cable. 

Once they were secured in a bag, she picked up the Brunel datapad again, and searched the ship's archive for details of historical systems, probes, satellites and ships.

She sorted these by date, the oldest first, and called up the data specifications for each one in turn, and began to read.
