Jeongguk stared at the blank chat board for a second, his fingers hesitating before he finally typed,

"Chats finally gone :(… I miss u already." He hit send, feeling a pang of sadness.

Taehyung didn’t keep him waiting. The reply came almost immediately. "Yaa ikrrr ;("

Taehyung couldn’t help but smile, a small comfort in knowing his online friend—Jk felt the same. But then, the speaker system crackled to life, cutting through the moment. "All pilots, please prepare for takeoff. Lunch break is over."

Taehyung sighed, feeling the weight of the announcement. His finger hovered over the screen, ready to close his phone, but just before he did, another message from Jk popped up.

"But what's your email id??"

Taehyung blinked, realizing they had never actually exchanged emails. How had they missed that? His heart picked up pace as he quickly typed back, asking Jk for his email too. It was a small thing, but it felt huge.

"Oh i forget, its [email protected]?"

The response came almost instantly.

"Its alrt, mine is— [email protected] ;)..imma delete it in few minutes since people like to stalk..lol XD"

Taehyung grinned, a bit of the heaviness lifting from his chest as he saved Jk’s email. They weren’t completely cut off after all.

"Same Jk, lemme do it!"

He glanced at Erin, who was waiting for him, and nodded. "Let’s go," he said, tucking his phone away. With a bit of relief, they headed back to their airline, the ache in his chest easing just a little.

Jeongguk woke up the next morning, rubbing his eyes, still half-asleep. His hand instinctively reached for his phone, but when he unlocked it, there were no direct messages. His frown deepened. This was the first time he’d woken up without a message from V.

He sighed, sitting up in bed, feeling the emptiness of the silence. He dragged himself out of bed and headed to the shower, the routine doing little to shake the feeling off.

After getting dressed, he made his way to the kitchen, grabbed some breakfast, and gave Bam a good rub behind the ears. "Morning, buddy," he mumbled, trying to muster up some energy. But the lack of V’s morning message still lingered.

Once he was done, he headed out to his car, ready to drive to the hospital. Before starting the engine, he pulled out his phone again. This time, he went straight to his email and typed out a quick message to V:

He hit send, feeling a bit better just knowing he reached out. With a small smile, he started the car and headed to the hospital, hoping for a reply soon.

Jeongguk’s day at the hospital was a whirlwind. Every time he got a break, he’d whip out his phone, refreshing his inbox like his life depended on it. But V’s email was still missing in action.

During a brief lull between patients, he found himself by the nurses’ station, pretending to be deep in thought while sneaking another peek at his phone.

"Waiting for something important?" one of the nurses teased, noticing how he kept glancing down.

He forced a laugh, pocketing the phone. "Just, uh, checking on something. Y'know, work stuff."

"Uh-huh, sure," she smirked, clearly not buying it. "Must be some ‘work’ if you’re this distracted."

Jeongguk just grinned and shrugged it off, heading back to the next patient. But as soon as he was out of sight, he checked again. Still nothing. "What’s he doing? Writing a novel?" he muttered under his breath.

Later, during a quick lunch break, he sat down with his sandwich, one hand holding his phone while the other unwrapped his meal. His eyes were practically glued to the screen, refreshing, refreshing... still no reply.

"Man, you’ve got it bad," his colleague said, plopping down across from him.

Jeongguk just shook his head with a sigh. "I sent a message this morning, and they haven't ’t replied. It’s like the person fell off the face of the Earth."

"Maybe he’s just busy?" his colleague suggested, biting into his sandwich.

"Yeah, probably..." Jeongguk trailed off, not convinced. He checked his phone again, just in case, but his inbox was still painfully empty.

By the time the afternoon hit, he was practically jumping every time his phone vibrated. But each time, it was just a notification from some random app or a spam email. "Great, thanks for getting my hopes up," he grumbled to himself.

During a lull in the late afternoon, he ducked into an empty office to check his phone in peace. "Still nothing, huh?" he sighed, leaning back in the chair. "Guess V’s busy with life too."

Just as he was about to put the phone away, it buzzed again. His heart skipped a beat—finally! But nope, just another email from some newsletter he didn’t even remember subscribing to. He groaned, dropping his head onto the desk. "This is torture," he mumbled into the wood.

The rest of the shift dragged on, with Jeongguk half-heartedly going through the motions, his mind always circling back to that empty inbox. He tried to focus on his work, but every time he got a moment to breathe, he was back to refreshing his emails.

As the day dragged into the evening, Jeongguk found himself at his wit’s end. " swear, if I don’t hear from V soon, I’m gonna lose it," he muttered to himself, making one last check on his phone before heading to his next patient.

Jeongguk was in the middle of instructing a patient, explaining the prescription with as much focus as he could muster, when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He itched to check it, his fingers twitching as he resisted the urge.

But the buzz felt different this time. His heart skipped a beat. Could it be...?

He froze mid-sentence, eyes glazing over as his mind went straight to his phone. The patient blinked at him, confused, as Jeongguk just stood there, staring off into space.

"Uh, doc?" the patient asked, waving a hand in front of Jeongguk’s face.

Jeongguk snapped back to reality, awkwardly clearing his throat. "I, uh… I need to use the bathroom real quick. Be right back!" Before the patient could even respond, Jeongguk was out the door, practically sprinting to the nearest restroom.

He slammed the door behind him, fumbling to pull out his phone. His hands were shaking with anticipation as he finally unlocked the screen. Please, please, please…

And there it was—an email from V. He couldn’t help but laugh out loud, a mix of relief and disbelief. "Finally, man! You had me waiting like a lovesick puppy all day," he muttered to himself, grinning like an idiot.

The email was short but sweet:

Feeling much better, he sent the email, and for the first time that day, he felt like he could finally breathe. He straightened up, took a deep breath, and headed back to his patient, trying to keep the stupid grin off his face. The patient gave him a weird look as he returned.

"Everything okay, doc?"

Jeongguk just nodded, trying not to laugh. "Yeah, just, uh… urgent business. All sorted now!"

Taehyung’s days had been a blur of flights and layovers. He barely had a moment to breathe, let alone check his phone. Each moment, he’d think about Jk and how much he missed their chats, but between the constant travel and exhaustion, he couldn’t find the time.

By the time he finally dragged himself home late at night, he was wiped out. Not even bothering with a shower, he stumbled into his room, his mind still buzzing with thoughts of Jk. The only thing that mattered right now was seeing if he had any new emails.

He flopped onto his bed, grabbed his phone, and opened his inbox. His face lit up with a smile when he saw a fresh email from Jk. "Yes!" he whispered, feeling a burst of energy despite his fatigue.

With a quickened heartbeat, he typed out a reply, his fingers flying over the keyboard.
