27, EMAILS
Jeongguk let out a tired sigh, his thoughts scattered as his phone buzzed with a call from Shezam, and he answered quickly.
"Yo, what’s up?” Jeongguk said, his voice a bit tired and trying to keep his voice steady.
"Yo, you okay? You’ve been weird since we got back. What’s the deal?" Shezam’s tone was sharp, laced with concern.
"I’m fine, just tired. You know how it is," Jeongguk replied, sounding distracted.
"No, I don’t know. You keep brushing me off. What’s really going on?" Shezam pressed, his frustration evident.
Jeongguk hesitated, then mumbled, "It’s nothing, just... some stuff to sort out."
"Seriously? Every time I try to get close, you shut me out. What the hell are you hiding?" Shezam’s voice was tinged with anger now.
Jeongguk clenched his jaw. "It’s not like that. I’m just dealing with some issues."
:Yeah, issues you never talk about. It’s always like this—one minute you’re fine, next you’re all closed off. Why can’t you just tell me what’s up?: Shezam’s frustration was clear.
"I just... don’t want to drag you into it," Jeongguk said, his voice strained.
"Bullshit. We’re in this together, remember? I’m here for you, but you gotta let me in. Stop hiding things from me," Shezam snapped.
Jeongguk felt a pang of guilt. "It’s complicated, okay? I don’t even know how to explain it."
"Well, start by being honest. I’m tired of this secrecy. If you’re not gonna talk to me, how the hell are we supposed to deal with anything?" Shezam’s voice was a mix of hurt and anger.
Jeongguk took a deep breath. "I just... need time to figure things out. I’m not ready to talk about it yet."
"Fine. But don’t expect me to keep waiting around while you keep shutting me out," Shezam said, his voice cold.
Jeongguk sighed, feeling the weight of the conversation. "Yeah, okay. I’ll talk to you later."
"Yeah, later." Shezam said before hanging up.
Jeongguk stared at his phone, feeling the sharp sting of Shezam’s words. The unresolved tension left him feeling more isolated than ever, caught between his own struggles and the strain on his relationship.
Jeongguk paced around the living room, his thoughts swirling as Bam lay sprawled on the floor, lazily minding his own business.
"Man, how do I even start?" Jeongguk muttered to himself, glancing at his phone. He rubbed his face, frustrated, when a thought hit him.
"Email! Duh. I’ll just email him about the whole chat mess!"
He quickly grabbed his phone and fired off a message to V.
[@Jk_moon_1997]
Yo, got an idea
How about I email u the deets
instead of waiting for the
chat to get fixed?
Meanwhile, Taehyung was on the phone with his bro, Jimin. They were deep in conversation when Taehyung’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, saw Jk’s name, and instantly perked up.
Without a second thought, he cut Jimin off mid-sentence. "Hey, bro, gotta go. Something urgent just came up."
Jimin sounded confused. "Wait, what? You just—"
But Taehyung had already hung up. He quickly opened Jk’s message and typed back.
[@Vantae30_u]
Haha, u serious? XD
That’s so old school,
but I’m down.
What’s the plan?
Jeongguk, feeling a bit more relaxed now that he had a plan, grinned as he read the reply.
[@Jk_moon_1997]
Old school? :-
Yeah, well, desperate times call for
desperate measures, rYT?
I’ll send u the lowdown.
You cool with that?
[@Vantae30_u]
Totally!!!
Just don’t start with
‘Dear V’ or something cheesy

Jeongguk chuckled, already feeling the tension from earlier ease off.
[@Jk_moon_1997]
Pfft, like I’d ever.
More like
'Yo, V, here’s the scoop' ;)
[@Vantae30_u]
Nice. Keep it real ;)
But hey,

[@Jk_moon_1997]
Ugh, just stuff :((

Anyway, I’ll hit u up with the email

Gotta make sure it

lol
[@Vantae30_u]
Lmao, yeah!!
don’t freak me out like that
I’ll be waiting
Now get to writing, Mr. Email XD
Jeongguk laughed, feeling lighter. As he started drafting the email, he glanced over at Bam, who was now giving him a lazy side-eye.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Jeongguk said, shaking his head. "I’m talking to a dude I’ve never met, sending emails like it’s 2005. But hey, it works."
Bam just yawned and rolled over, clearly uninterested in his human’s drama.
With a smirk, Jeongguk focused back on his phone, already thinking about how to keep the tone light, yet get his point across without sounding like a total mess.
[30 minutes left before wattpad discloses direct messages]
Taehyung stared at his phone, feeling the initial excitement from Jk’s message start to fade. Emails? It wasn’t a bad idea, but it wasn’t great either. His heart started to race as doubts crept in.
Emails take time, I barely check them, and with the time difference… His mind spiraled. What if they couldn’t keep up like they used to on Wattpad?
He glanced at the clock—only 30 minutes left before Wattpad shut down direct messages. His chest tightened, but he didn’t type anything back. Instead, he paced the hall, wrestling with his thoughts.
What if we lose our vibe? he worried, but he shook his head, trying to calm himself. He didn’t want to pressure Jk or seem too needy. It’s better than nothing, he told himself, forcing himself to accept the email idea. He shoved his phone in his pocket, trying to ignore the gnawing unease.
As the minutes ticked by, Taehyung’s mind kept circling back to the same thought: What if this isn’t enough? But he stayed silent, hoping that somehow, it would all work out.
Taehyung was lost in his thoughts, pacing around, when Erin suddenly appeared beside him, nearly giving him a heart attack.
:Whoa, chill! You trying to kill me or what?" Taehyung yelped, clutching his chest.
Erin just laughed, totally unbothered. "You’re so jumpy. What’s got you all wound up?"
Taehyung hesitated, biting his lip. He’d never mentioned Jk to Erin before, but something inside him clicked. It’s time, he thought.
"Alright, take a seat," Taehyung said, gesturing to the bench. He plopped down beside her, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"What’s this all about? You look like you’ve seen a ghost," Erin teased, nudging him.
Taehyung sighed, feeling the weight of his decision. "So, remember I mentioned someone I was talking to online?"
Erin’s eyes lit up with curiosity. "Yeah, you’ve been all mysterious about it. Spill!"
"Yeah, well…" Taehyung paused, pulling out his phone. "He’s the guy."
He opened Wattpad and showed her Jk’s profile picture. Erin leaned in, squinting at the screen.
"Wait, this dude? The one you’ve been vibing with?" Erin asked, her tone suddenly serious.
Taehyung nodded, feeling a bit vulnerable. "Yeah, that’s him. We’ve been talking a lot, and… it’s getting kinda real, you know?"
Erin raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Real, huh? So, what’s the deal? Why the sudden confession?"
Taehyung exhaled deeply. "I dunno, Erin. We’ve been chatting on Wattpad, and now it’s all shutting down. He suggested emailing, and I’m just… I’m freaking out a little. What if we lose our connection?"
Erin leaned back, crossing her arms. "Dude, if you guys are tight, an app or email isn’t gonna break you. But you gotta be honest with him, and yourself. Don’t let this slip away ‘cause of some tech issues."
Taehyung nodded, her words sinking in. "Yeah, you’re right. It’s just… he means a lot to me, and I don’t wanna mess this up."
Erin smiled softly. "Then don’t. Just keep it real with him. If you care, make it work, no matter what."
Taehyung looked at her, feeling a bit lighter. "Thanks, Erin. I needed that."
"Anytime, Tae," Erin said, giving him a playful punch on the arm. "Now go handle your business."
Taehyung smiled, feeling a bit more confident. He glanced at Jk’s profile picture again, then put his phone away, ready to figure out the next step.
He leaned back on the bench, still wandering about Jk’s thoughts in his mind. His thoughts tumbled out before he could stop them.
"Why do I always wait for his message, Erin? Like, we’re just online, right? But every time my phone buzzes, it’s like… I dunno, I get this stupid little spark."
Erin’s eyes softened as she watched him. "You really like this guy, huh?"
Taehyung sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I guess I do. It’s weird, though. We’ve never even met, but it feels… real, you know? Every time we text, it’s like there’s this spark that just lights up."
Erin nodded, a gentle smile tugging at her lips. She reached over and held his fingers, squeezing them lightly. "That’s because it is real, Tae. Doesn’t matter if you’ve never met in person. What you feel is what you feel."
Taehyung looked down at their hands, feeling a warmth spread through him. "But why does it feel so intense? Like, sometimes I’m just waiting for his name to pop up on my screen. It’s crazy."
Erin chuckled softly. "Not crazy. Just sounds like you’re falling for him, and that’s okay. Sparks like that don’t happen every day. It’s special, Tae."
Taehyung sighed, leaning his head back against the bench. "Yeah, maybe you’re right. I just… I’m scared, you know? What if it doesn’t work out?"
Erin squeezed his fingers again. "You’ll never know unless you try. And if he’s feeling the same spark, you’ve got nothing to worry about."
Taehyung met her gaze, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Erin. You always know what to say."
She smiled warmly. "That’s what I’m here for you handsome. Now, go text your guy. Don’t let that spark fade."
Erin's face tensed up as she remembered last week's party, and she hesitated before asking, "Tae, did Han Jisung get back to you?"
Taehyung's expression darkened instantly, his jaw tightening. "He broke into my house last week," he muttered, clenching his teeth. "But I was dead set on not letting him get to me."
Erin's tense expression softened into a proud smile. "I'm so proud of you, Tae," she said, her voice warm with genuine admiration.
"Yeah, well, it wasn't easy," Taehyung admitted, his voice softer now. "But I couldn't let him pull me back in."
She reached over and squeezed his hand. "You did good. Really good."
He nodded, still deep in thought. "Thanks, Erin. I needed to hear that."
Soon, a call interrupted as Erin excused to pick it up.
Taehyung grabbed his phone, opened Wattpad, and his stomach sank. "What the...?" he muttered, staring at the screen in disbelief. The chat section was gone.
"No more DMs," he whispered, his heart heavy. "We can't talk on here anymore."
Sure, they had emails, but it wasn’t the same. "This really sucks..." he mumbled, the loss hitting him hard. The thought of losing that easy, quick connection with Jk stung more than he expected.
He just sat there, staring at the screen, feeling a deep ache settle in.
[Wattpad has successfully disclosed direct messages]
