"Good afternoon, Mr Park. I'd like to have a few words with you if that's ok," Minseo said in a stern voice, trying to sound as policewoman-like as possible.
"You again? Oh my god go away."
Footsteps echoed behind Mr Park and a middle-aged lady with smooth skin and soft brunette hair came to his side. "What's going on, dear?" she asked, baffled at the small police woman in front of their house.
"Get this woman out of my house," Mr Park said sternly.
"I just want to ask a few more questions regarding Kim Seokjin's death."
"His funeral was long ago, I don't see what investigating further will do."
"Kim Seokjin? The boy that died? I thought he committed suicide. That kind boy was my son's friend, he had anxiety maybe that was the problem?" said Mrs Park with concern etched on her face, her thick eyebrows knitted together with confusion.
"Yes...but there has been suspicions of it being a murder...and I want to bring your husband in for questioning."
"What does my husband have to do this again?"
"Soojin-ah don't listen to her."
"Just arrest him now, just take him, he's not gonna relent anyway," Seokjin advised.
Ok well..
"Park jung hyun, you are under arrest. you have the right to remain silent," said Minseo as she pulled his arms to the back and handcuffed them.
"This is atrocious! I have nothing to do with this guy's death!"
Mrs Park was frigid with a look of terror on her face. Her husband was being arrested and she was utterly clueless about what to do. "Wait! I'm sure things can be explained!"
"We'll let him do the talking at the station, Mrs Park."
"Is that even a police car?" Mrs Park questioned.
Minseo and Seokjin turned around to look at each other with shocked expressions. they did not consider this.
"Um...the police car engine died," Minseo spat out, then shoved Mr Park's body into the car.
Minseo got into the car and Seokjin took the shotgun seat, whispering "you did great" to her and giving her a look of satisfaction. She returned a kind smile, but what were they going to do when they reach the police station?
******
"Coming through!" Minseo shouted as she pushed park jung hyun's handcuffed body through the herd of people and officers in the police station urgently, trying her best to not get noticed. Once she got Mr Park in the questioning room, she left to find Namjoon.
"I don't think Namjoon would believe you, what if he pushes you out of the station?" Seokjin said with concern.
"Well, he's the only friend I have here that knows me, other officers would arrest me instead."
"Its too risky."
"Namjoon is the only hope we've got. Don't worry I'll convince him."
She walked to the cafeteria of the station, only to see a few officers huddled together chatting and laughing. Namjoon was sipping on his coffee and listening to officer yoon complain about his wife when something in a distance caught his eye. Minseo made eye contact with Namjoon and his small eyes instantly widened when he saw her dressed in that policewoman uniform.
She signaled for him to come to her, mouthing a silent "we need to talk." He immediately put down his coffee mug and went over to the girl behind the door, where no one could see them.
"WHAT THE HELL MINSEO?!"
"I know I know I know this is crazy-"
"YOU CAN'T JUST BARGE INTO THE POLICE STATION IN THAT!"
"But this is important! Look I have Mr Park Jung Hyun in the questioning room right now-"
"WHAT?!?! Oh my god...."
"You neeeed to believe me Namjoon pleaseeee...."
"Minseo please leave Mr Park out of thi- no. Leave everyone out of this. This case is none of your business this case is settled it has nothing to do with you."
"We have solid evidence Namjoon."
"We?"
Minseo looked to Seokjin for confirmation. it was about time Namjoon knew about his best friend.
"Just tell him already," said Seokjin. He couldn't keep this secret from Namjoon anymore, his best friend needed to know how much he misses him.
"I can see ghosts, Namjoon. Well, specifically just Seokjin's ghost."
"What?" Namjoon said with a look of pure shock. It was as if a chandelier behind him just came crashing down, scattered into millions of pieces, pieces of the truth. So sharp it could cut through people, so sharp it could scar anyone who tries to pick it up. what a mess.
"You're kidding me right?" baffled and in daze, he asked, he mourned. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Well you didn't ask...."
"So is he here right now?"
"Yes, I miss you Joon."
"Yes. He says he misses you."
"Really? I miss you too hyung." Tears boiled beneath Namjoon's eyes, threatening to fall every time he took a breath, so he held it in, and covered half of his face with his big hands. His eyes were only visible now. Sunken, shocked, and glossed with despair. He failed his hyung, but hyung still misses him.
"I'm sorry hyung. I really am," Namjoon choked out in a croaky voice laced with vulnerability. He was about to crumble any second and disintegrate into a puddle of tears but no. not when hyung was there. Seokjin hated seeing anyone cry. Seokjin hated when people saw him crying. He knew he had to hold it in, it'll just hurt hyung more.
"It's ok Joon. I understand. Don't cry. Please don't hurt anymore." It broke Seokjin's heart to see his brother like this. Namjoon is usually so strong so tough. The indestructible statue that stood proud in the midst of a thunderstorm. The glue of their group that mended everyone's pain and kept them going through all adversities and hardships. The thread that mended any tear on the quilt of their bond, cementing their ever-lasting brotherhood. Joon rarely ever broke down. But his death tore Namjoon apart, he could never forgive himself for that. For leaving his best friend's side. Now he was a crumbled pile of grey stones, depressed and miserable. Lonely and demented.
"He's asking you not to cry. Not to hurt anymore. He forgives you. Watching you hurt is breaking his heart," despite her pleas, Namjoon continued crying, kneeling down on the floor because he couldn't take it anymore, his tears fell like the intermittent rain, sobbing into his hands and combing his hair repeatedly to the point it was so disheveled. He looked lost.
"Namjoon, I hate to say this, but I really need you to help me now with this case. I really need you to help us with this case," Minseo pleaded after a few minutes, letting Namjoon cry until he was contented and could garner enough energy to control his emotions.
"Sorry to say, but I don't think bringing Park Jung Hyun in would help any further," Namjoon answered after straightening up and getting himself together.
"We have evidence Namjoon! For the sweet love of god please come in and just watch me interrogate him. That's all I'm asking. And if he confesses just help us get him arrested. Please!"
"It's going to be useless."
"Do this for Seokjin, ok? He's your best friend and he really wants to find his killer. He loves you all and watching you guys hurt, hurts him. This is the least you can do."
"Fine. If it will make Seokjin happy. But still, it's not going to change anything," he affirmed.
"Just follow me, Namjoon."
"Oh shit what have I done."
