"You better go dry yourself off. You're so wet," Seokjin advised Minseo as they step foot into her house.
Minseo quirked up an eyebrow at that rather suggestive remark, making Seokjin blush at his own words. Not realizing that there could be a sexual connotation behind that sentence.
"I- I didn't mean it that way I swe-"
"Hahahahaahahahahahaa," Minseo burst up laughing as Seokjin cutely stuttered with worry.
"My my Minseo. Didn't know you were this corrupted."
"There's a lot you don't know about me yet."
Yet? Seokjin thought. Will I stick around long enough to know more?
Despite reuniting with Seokjin after 2 weeks of agony, Minseo still felt that tinge of bitterness and grief lingering in her heart. But at least she had someone to keep her company right now. Whenever someone leaves, we all need to be alone, to think to process to grieve. But that grief will soon dissipate, and in comes the virus that is loneliness. It eats us up and tears apart our minds, it agitates and annoys yet its doing nothing. Loneliness is a shadow, a virus that we can't wait to get rid of.
"Minseo, how are you doing?" the ghost asked quietly at Minseo who was spacing out.
"I don't know. I guess I'm done crying."
She looks so lost, so torn apart, so empty.
It broke Seokjin's heart to see her in that state. She looked like a lifeless, deflated balloon. The glimmer in her eyes that once resembled sapphires were now dim gems. Dark circles that looked like they were painted below her eyelids, and a puffy face from all the crying.
"Wanna tell me where you went?"
"I um, I didn't really go too far."
"Oh really?"
"Yes. Really. I just stayed hidden away from you that's all."
"So you were here all this time, in hiding? stalking me?" Minseo challenged.
"Well i wouldn't call it stalking-"
"Why did you even have to hide in the first place? Especially after I-" Minseo had to avert her eyes off Seokjin at this moment out of embarassment. Not to mention it was pretty hard trying to concentrate with that hot ghost right infront of her.
"You what? Just admit it. You like me."
"No!"
"You really really like me don't you?" the mischievous ghost taunted her with a cocky smirk, chuckling along the way.
"Well from what I remember, you like me too!"
"Yeah, I do."
"Good."
"Good."
Queue the awkward silence.
"Ok then this still doesn't explain why you left me."
Seokjin opened his mouth to say something, but he was tongue-tied, truly clueless about how he was gonna explain everything to her. They'd been so used to light-hearted, fluffy conversations that this one felt all too serious for them to handle.
"Minseo, listen," Seokjin started. "Do you know what's gonna happen if you fall for me? And I, for you?"
"No, I'm not a psychic I can't see the future."
"See? Exactly. I'm dead, Minseo. I'm a ghost. My life has ended for me. I don't have a future anymore. I can't-" overwhelmed with emotions, he paused for a second and had to close his eyes, biting his cheek to force out his words. "I can't get married. I can't work. I can't have children. We won't be able to work out, Minseo. You can't even touch me!"
Minseo thought she heard glass shatter. Oh wait, it was just her heart.
Careful, don't step on those shards girl.
"We can figure something out," she croaked out. Hot tears threatening to spill again.
"I won't forgive myself for ruining your life, Minseo. For holding you back. You have the chance to find someone else, someone better. You're gonna get yourself some rich businessman that can protect you and shower you with love. You'll even be able to bear children."
"And what if I don't want a life like that? It's my life, don't you think I have a say in what I choose?"
"You do. But sometimes the choices we make are not the best choices. Sometimes you just have to let go so the other can have a better life."
Minseo's tears were trickling down her cheeks slowly, her face was still expressionless. Overwhelmed with shock and despair.
"I am willing to sacrifice that to be with you."
"And I am not willing for you to do that. You can't be stubborn, Minseo. you need to think what's best for your life. flFor your future. You'll be great without me, I promise."
Minseo pondered for a moment. Sure, what the ghost said was right. Perhaps she's being too emotional right now. But she couldn't ignore that aching pain in her heart, she couldn't bear to have Seokjin leave her again.
"What about Park Jung Hyun." Minseo changed the subject, wanting to direct their attention towards something else.
"Tha- um. look, I think its best if we drop the case."
"What ?!?!"
"He's Jimin's father. Do you know how devastated Jimin will be once he finds out that his own father is a murderer?"
"He's your murderer, Seokjin! What happened to justice? Or better yet, what happens if you're not the last friend he kills?"
Seokjin stared at Minseo in shock. He completely didn't think about the other members in their group getting harmed as well. He was thinking about Jimin's feelings all this while and completely forgot about his friends' safety. What if they all get killed? What if they're all hung at the same branch of that fucking tree? What if they all lose their lives, futures.
"I really didn't think about that."
"Yeah, you sure didn't."
"We need to get him arrested," Seokjin said with determination laced in his words.
"No shit sherlock. You're not going to leave me again are you?"
Seokjin momentarily thought for a while. there was no way he could stay with minseo his entire life, that would just be detrimental for her future. At the same time, he couldn't stop Mr Park without a companion. Without live human.
Ugh, priorities.
"Ok how about this," he started.
"Mmm I'm listening."
"We capture Park Jung Hyun. We put him in jail, save the boys."
"Yeah, and?"
"And once we've completed our mission, you let me leave."
Minseo's stomach dropped at those words, like all hope in her had vanished. She loved him, couldn't he see that? Her emptiness was quickly replaced by anger. Anger at her fate, and anger at Seokjin who thought he knew what was best for her. She swallowed her rage and sadness, deciding that nothing would change his mind. He was going to leave. They all leave.
Smile. Act like you don't care. Act like you don't need him to survive. Smile, little one.
"dlDeal," she said with affirmation, plastering on the fakest smile you could ever see, blinking back tears and biting her tongue.
"Deal."
