Prologue - A Prophecy Told
A black furred wolf stood at the top of a mountain peak. His feathered wings billowed around him as the blizzard raged, blowing icy snow into his fur. He fluffed up his pelt and stared over the unseen horizon, far off in the distance.
It won't be long now... The wolf thought to himself. As he paced restlessly around the snowy peak, trying to keep warm, a strong wind overtook the blizzard, and the storm was pushed back to reveal dancing lights of green, yellow, and blue. The Great Lights. Suddenly a vision stood before the wolf's eyes. A vision of no more evil.
The wolf laughed and howled to the skies as the wind kicked up. "THERE IS HOPE IN FATHOMS AND SONGS OF WILLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!" he roared, spreading his wings, catching the wind and gliding around in great sweeping circles, powered on by the currents of air, which smelled of summer's last fight against the oncoming winter.
But just as the seasons never reign forever, the blizzard returned, and the dancing lights disappeared. The wolf gave a crazed laugh, and landed back on the mountain peak, his fur beginning to become powdered with fluffy snow again.
It's happened. Dark Clan will be no more. In the final hour two Alphas will fall under the claws of songs sung by willows, and fathoms no one can imagine. After, a sudden prophecy flashed in his mind, given by his ancestors. A prophecy of hope. He howled in joy, then spread his great feathered wings and swept down to his Clan; Falcon Clan, who had settled far away from the raging storm, in a protected valley deeper in the mountain range.
"Alpha!" he howled, as he swept into the dark valley. He dodged the raised platforms which the dens were built on. He came to a large den, and he landed on the platform with a thud. He respectfully called into the dark den made of leaves, "Alpha?" something stirred in the darkness. Snake Fang, who had been thinking of the right words to say to his Alphas, finally spoke. "I witnessed the Great Lights, they just happened. Dark Clan will fall. I received a prophecy from the High Stone spirits, they told me this;" Snake Fang cleared his throat, and his eyes went blank. The two leaders listened carefully. Snake Fang had never been wrong before, no matter how crazed he'd been.
"When the six Clans are divided,
When war rules the land,
When the rivers run red with blood,
And evil howls echo across the land,
Two wolves, and only two wolves,
Can save the world from chaos.
Only the ones who see the world through silver and purple eyes,
Marked with snake and dragon,
Have the power to destroy all darkness,
But only when united,
Or time will stop,
And all will perish.
Beware, and embrace the one who sees into souls,
For only she has the power to see beyond,
And into the minds of others.
Find, but do not pity the one with dragon blood,
For only she has the power to defeat the darkness,
or destroy the light."
Snake Fang finished his prophecy dramatically, snapping back to his normal self.
The Alpha turned to his mate, and asked, "Aspen Heart? What do you think?"
The once pretty, battle-scarred she-wolf replied, yawning, "I don't understand what parts of it mean, such as the part where you predicted time will stop, how is that possible? Our world isn't that old you know."
Snake Fang gave a smirk, and said, "I cannot tell what most any of this means, all I know, is that the one who sees into souls was born under the Great Lights a few moments ago. The prophecy will unravel itself in time. Prophets aren't supposed to know what their prophecies mean, that is for the High Stones to know, and the High Stones only."
"I don't like your tone." Aspen Heart spat flatly, growling. She turned to her mate, and said, "We shouldn't trust him Cloud Heart. He's gone insane. He made up that so-called 'prophecy', he doesn't know what he's saying anymore." Cloud Heart chuckled, and soothed, "But he's our Prophet. He was chosen by our ancestors, and we must respect their decision, by listening to their messenger. He's never been wrong before."
Aspen Heart sniffed and revealed her sharp yellow fangs. "He may have never been wrong, but there's a first for everything. There is no way to rid the world of Dark Clan. Even if there was, two wolves couldn't do it alone. Not even Dragon Clan could defeat Dark Clan by themselves. All the Clans would have to work together. But that's impossible..., especially with the younger wolves. They listen to no one."
"But these wolves are special." Snake Fang protested. "They have the power to unite the Clans, and destroy the evil one. Sure, darkness will always exist, but not Dark Clan. It's one step closer to a world where mothers can watch their pups grow without fear that they'll be slain as soon as they are warriors."
Cloud Fang stood up, and asked, "But what can we do?"
"We wait. That's all we can do."
"I'm sorry, but there's a war! WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO WAIT!" Aspen Heart screeched. The howling of pups, angry that they were woken, filled the quiet valley. A few moments later, all was peaceful again once their mothers had calmed down the wailing of their children.
Cloud Fang ran his feathered wing over Aspen Heart's back, "What else can we do? If we must wait for two certain wolves to bring an alliance to all the Clans, then we will wait."
Snake Fang nodded and swept out of the den and onto the platform. "If you don't mind," he called back over his shoulder, not looking back. "I won't be around for awhile." I have work to do. And with that, the Prophet spread his wings and took off into the cloudy, cool late summer sky.
