Black History Month
About halfway through January, readers will have noticed we added a new reading list: Celebrating Black History Month.
Diversity is important, and those voices deserve to be heard all year round. We're always seeking more voices, and if there is a story from a black author with a black protagonist, we'd love to read it! The submissions form can be found here, as well as in our profile bio and our guide.
Upcoming Events
With the new year, the team at High Fantasy is brainstorming better ways to engage with the community. Writing can often be a lonely endeavor, and we want to change this by consistently adding new and undiscovered stories to our lists while also focusing on sharing our voices with others.
Though we have contests throughout the year, the primary goal is to write. Whether you use our prompts for the activities or your next big story, the objective is to dust off your quill and delve into your imagination where dragons fly high over the mountains and mermaids swim into the depths unknown.
We are also bringing back questions of the week, and we plan to publish interviews from stand up writers.
Reading List Feature
Celebrating the Black History Month, we have come up with curated reads from their voices. Check our current Reading List here.
Feature Opportunities
For the month of February, users with Asian Fantasy stories may submit to our Cultivation Month reading list, which will update in March. To view what we are currently featuring, check out here. You may submit via this form.
Interviews
Next month, we will feature Unkultured, the 2022 Wattys shortlisted author of "Cogs of Cinder"; and Shivan86, the ONC 2022 longlisted author of "Where Kings Can't Rule".
Feature Opportunities
It's Black History Month! We understand such a time cannot be contained within a month, so we have curated a reading list dedicated to highlighting Black voices in the Wattpad community. To access the full list, please visit this link .
In addition to this reading list, we will be featuring one black author a month for the rest of the year!
If you would like to be considered for an interview or have your book featured on our profile as part of our Black History Month initiative this year, you must 1) identify as a Black author; and 2) have a book featuring a Black protagonist; and the story must contain mythological elements.
We are hosting a brand new contest with three magical prompts to spark your creativity. "Whispers of love" is all about some lovely meetings with peculiar beings, and we challenge you to give your own spin to it. So what are you waiting for? Pick up your magic quill and start writing, because our deadline is on the 28th of February 2023! Want some more details? You can find it here.
And, psst... Did you know the YAFantasy profile reached 3,000 followers? One would suspect that is reason enough for a party, right? You might want to keep an eye on this profile, because March may bring some interesting challenges...
