Chapter 59 - Talking On A Boat
"I want t'a save people... but... sometimes it's scary, ya know?"
The light from the sun tinkled down onto the surface of the water, sparkling across it as Silica drew random designs onto the wood under her elbows, chewing on the inside of her mouth as she tried to fight the urge of a cigarette. She could practically taste the salt as she opened her mouth to reply to the Captain.
"Of course," Silica responded, drawing in a breath of the fresh sea once again, "Everyone's afraid of dying. I am, too."
"Not just tha'. 'Fraid of failure. Of screwin' up."
Bubbly closed her eyes next to SIlica, running a hand across her face as the wind pulled at her clothes and hair, dragging them to the side.
"Everyone's afraid of failure too," Silica said, "You know, it's common fears. Nothing to worry about."
"Well, it ain't as big as a deal if ya ain't in any impacting place, huh?" Bubbly groaned into her hand, "I've never been 'lone, without Purple. This is m' first solo mission."
"How'd you two meet, exactly?"
"A long time ago..."
Silica drew her blue eyes over to glance another time at the female at her side, who had lowered her hand to rest it under her chin, looking ahead at the bare sea.
"Like, she was the first person who kin'a talked to me. I was practically los' without her, yes I was. She was the one who introduced me t'a 'lota things. Then, we started livin' 'gether, working at some jobs we found. I've known her my 'tire life here, ya know? She's helped me 'come who I am. But I've always 'pported her, too. We've been throu' heck and back, trust m' when I say we know each other quite well."
"That sounds nice."
"What about ya? Yer mentioned someone or somethin' like D.B?"
The dark brown haired female looked over, grinning at Bubbly.
"Oh, yeah, you would've totally f*cking loved her," Silica laughed, "She's totally like you. An innocent weeb. She's even got pigtails and everything."
"'M not innocent," Bubbly defended herself, "Just because I'm nice t'a people don't mean I'm innocent."
"Well, she was like you, except for the whole speech accent thing," The taller explained, "Like, she was all understanding and stuff. She even went out to try and talk to the vampires, every night, since she said they were people and could be reasoned with. She went out every night."
"What ever happened with 'er?"
There was a pause before Silica spoke.
"Disappeared."
Bubbly nodded, closing her brown eyes as she turned back to the sea. Silica figured that D.B was probably dead, vampires probably killed her. But she could save another friend of hers, Edge, and that would be worth the trip.
"What are vampires?" Bubbly asked suddenly.
"You don't know what vampires are?" Silica asked, snorting, "Like, you've never read Twilight? Good, stay away while you can."
"Nah, like, I kno' what they are, 'nd all," The captain said, "I've just never head o' them in like, real life. I thought they ain't real."
"We don't know much about them, but I thought everyone was dealing with them," Silica said, "They're a big problem and everything. People disappearing left and right from them, the higher members of society being attacked and killed, random animals found looking like raisins and such. Apparently the King is trying to exterminate them, or something."
"Well, then he'll be distracted for us t'a swoop in 'nd snatch a few people," Bubbly grinned, "If ya want to grab anyone ya were close t'a, you can."
"Thanks," Silica said, already knowing who she was going to bring, "I have someone I plan on freeing. He can help us a lot."
