Chapter 50 - The Truth Of Alphys

Alphys had no idea where to start.

Well, she had one, but she didn't think it would be a very good idea to do it.

She technically didn't need a soul, in theory, to bring back someone into a host. She had ran over the calculations, and it should be possible, with her resources, to combine Asriel's dust with a host body and fill it with determination to live. But that wouldn't give him any emotions. She could always import the fake emotions like another wealthy family is doing, but that still doesn't mean that she could bring back Asriel fully. Chunks of him may be missing because she may not have all of his dust. She was building a robotic body for him, but then she'd also have to find a stable power source in order to ensure it will be constantly running, which will be very difficult.

To simplify this problem up, she's practically screwed in every way possible.

But she had already accepted the project for the King, so there was no turning back.

She decided to go to the room where the dusting took place, to see if there were any soul shards or dust laying around.

Soul shards were a rare occurance when monsters die, which can only really occur with a Boss Monsters soul. Boss Monsters, due to having more magic, can also sometimes have more determination, which allows for their soul to survive by breaking apart and scattering inside of the dust, and these soul pieces could survive up to around three months before completely breaking away. It was a survival instinct to try and save the soul, but only monsters with enough determination could really do it.

It was rare, but Toriel was a strong Boss monster, so it was likely to have happened.

The room was in shambles when Alphys had arrived, long clawmarks and burnt marks scattered across the walls. A huge part of the ceiling had been been knocked down, resulting in a pile of the aftereffects laying underneath it.

Alphys wanted to go ask Asgore what had happened, Asriel was supposed to be the next in line for the throne, the Kingdom needed to know what had happened to their future King, not to mention their current Queen.

But she didn't, because Asgore had told everyone not to ask, or else they would be punished. And sure, she was the Royal Scientist, but she definitely wasn't inside of a position to question Asgore. He still did have an entire army, after all.

In a certain part of the room there was a large pile of dust, Toriels most likely, which made Alphys look down at the box questioningly at the pile of dust inside of there.

Why did Asgore collect Asriel's and not Toriel's?

Now that she mentioned it, he didn't even ask her to bring back his Wife, only his child. Why would he do that?

Alphys hadn't interacted much with Toriel, but she didn't seem like a bad person. One time she had come into Alphys' lab, told her she was glad Asgore had another women around since only women could really calm down men, then left. It was a weird experience, but Alphys was too busy at the moment to really pay attention to it.

Alphys knelt down next to the dust and pulled out a bag she had brought here her, pulling out the gloves before snapping them over her claws. Because this was dealing with monster dust, it was respectful to not physically touch it yourself. It was considered disrespectful, since you technically could be tainting their essence with your own, so it was a tradition for monsters to deal with dust by using gloves and covering their hands.

The small scientist worked slowly, carefully taking small chunks of the dust and storing it within the confines of the bag.

Then, a third of the way through the dust pile, her hand had grabbed something with a light glow.

A piece of a monsters soul.

She smiled softly, lifting up the soul to inspect it within the light above. It was a good piece of the soul, glowing strongly. It was definitely be enough to recover the rest of the soul with a little bit of determination and magic inputed into it. Since monster souls just were emotions and magic, and Monster Boss souls could also contain determination, she could easily just add some more determination instead of emotions and then call it a day.

This was perfect!

However, this wouldn't help Asriel's case. He wasn't a Boss Monster, so he didn't have a soul. Which meant he wouldn't be able to feel emotions, or use magic in his new hosts body, for that matter. Sure, Toriel would be just fine, but what about Asriel?

Alphys didn't really talk about it with others, but she had grown to like the little guy. Asriel was a nice kid who didn't deserve what had happened to him, he would've been a great leader if he had grown up. He was kind and understanding, one time Alphys had mentioned she had a headache when he was in the same room so he offered her his orange juice to help with it. If Sci had been his age, she would've definitely set them up for some play dates and hoped they became friends. Asriel was one of the favorite people she had met, so she too had been devastated when she had learned that he had died.

And of course, that was another reason why she took up the assignment to bring him back.

It wasn't his time to go, not yet.

Alphys, once all of the old Queen's dust had been collected, had finally decided on a plan of action. She would build a body for Toriel's soul to be contained within while she fixed the soul, but she would send it out on a test drive to ensure it was string enough to withstand some blows. Once it was stable enough, she would put Toriels soul inside of it, combine the vessel with her dust, then work on Asriel's. She would have to give him emotion medicine and some magic tablets from another Kingdom, but he would be like his old self in no time at all.

It seemed like a good plan.

Of course, not all plans worked out the way you expect them to.

One big obstacle she had encountered that most of Asriel's dust wasn't inside of the box. Inside of the room, Asriel had dusted near a plotted yellow plant that had just bloomed, which had ended up absorbing most of the dust that Asgore had missed. So, the Flower itself was practically more Asriel than the rest of Asriel's dust inside lf the box. And she couldn't get the dust out, either, since it had become a part of the flower.

So she adapted to the situation.

Instead of building a body for both Toriel and Asriel, she decided to only build one body for Toriel and combine Asriel into the Flower. He would be able to move around quicker and quieter than a large clanking metal robot, and he wouldn't need things like real food, since he would be a flower after all.

She was almost done fixing Toriel's soul when she had spread the rest of the dust over the Flower and pulled out a syringe full of pure determination found from a human who had died recently due to a disease, and she then had injected it into the flower.

It only took a day to get a result.

Alphys had walked in to see the flower sliding across the floor using his vines, looking around curiously at his surroundings. She was so overcome with joy she had scooped him up into her arms and started to hop around.

"Asriel!" She had chanted, glad that her actions had been a success.

"Alphys? What am I doing here, and why am I like this?" Asriel had questioned her.

"I managed to use your dust and determination to bring you back into this flower!" Alphys explained happily, feeling so giddy that she didn't even stutter.

She had to make sure he was stable enough in the flower to release him into the public, so she had kept him in the one room where he had died while she went over his stability.

And, of course, she asked some questions about the incident.

"I don't remember much," The golden flower had explained, "I do remember that Dad and Mom were mad at each other and got into a fight, and I had tried to split them up. But everything after that is fuzzy."

"So you don't know w-who might've s-snuck in and struck the f-final blow on you?" The scientist questioned him.

"I don't remember anyone sneaking in. I think... I think it might've been one of them."

"Asgore..." Alphys hissed, crushing the plastic cup in her hand.

Of course it was him, why wouldn't it be? He must've felt guilty over killing his son and asked Alphys to bring him back! No wonder he's been snapping at everyone who's asked what happens! He's been trying to hide that he was a brutal murderer of even his own son!

"He was the most angry, I remember, and Toriel was trying to stop him from doing something," Flowey muttered, "If anyone, it was probably him."

So, from that moment the two had decided that it wouldn't be safe for Asriel to go near him. If he did, well, there was no other Boss Monster to stop what would happen this time.

So, they had renamed Asriel Flowey and kept him hidden from Asgore. She decided to keep working on bringing Toriel back, since she could overthrow Asgore since she was the Queen and hopefully restore peace back to the Kingdom.

She could've saved them all.

Due to the determination injected within of Toriel's soul, it was determined to find a host body. So, it would call out, in wave pulses like a beacon, for a host. Alphys had discovered this rather quickly, since she had jumped when suddenly this pulse made her soul practically scream inside of her chest.

"What w-was that?" Alphys breathed out to Flowey, who was sitting on a table nearby.

"Toriel's soul," Flowey told her.

Alphys had learned something about Monster Souls that day. If a Monster Soul has no host, it would send out wave lengths that especially affected nearby souls, which had made Alphys jump.

What a scientific discovery!

But, this served as a danger to Alphys, since she had dangerous machines and chemicals that she could knock over if she was caught off guard, so she had to store the Queens soul within a glass canister that rejected magic. It would eliminate the waves sent out, so Alphys wouldn't feel them anymore.

She had been standing at a table within the one room with Flowey nearby, before footsteps sounded down the hallway.

Asgore.

"Hide!" Alphys said to Flowey, who ducked behind a desk just as the King reached the door.

"Doctor Alphys, how is prog- is that a soul?" He changed mid sentence, pointing at the soul.

"It's T-Toriel's," Alphys answered, "I managed to collect s-soul fragments and-"

She paused out of fear when she saw hid face twisting to one of pure anger at the name of his deceased wife.

"A-Asgore?" Alphys asked, backing away slowly.

The King had stormed over before swiping his hand out in anger, the glass canister containing the soul shattering on the ground.

"I didn't ask you to bring back that b*tch!" Asgore yelled.

"I-I'm sorry!" Alphys said, backing away some more.

"First that robot which was destroyed in one hit and now this?" He yelled, "You've been pushing my patience to the last straw!"

He suddenly whipped out and grabbed her arm yanking her forward before practically throwing the female out of the door.

She landed with a loud thud, her arm throbbing with pain as she sat up and looked at Asgore, scrambling backwards as he approached the door to the room.

It slammed shut behind him before he started dragging her down the hallway, then through her lab, until finally she was inside of the main part of the castle.

"You're hereby banned from this castle!" Asgore yelled, throwing her onto the ground.

"W-What?" Alphys asked.

"Edge, Razz, take her away," Asgore said to the two nearest Royal Guards.

"B-But-" She said.

"Alphys, it's the Kings orders," Edge said, helping her up, "Please don't fight back."

With one last glance at the Kings angry face, then the door to her lan with Flowey peaking around a corner down there, she nodded quietly and followed the two skeletons with her head down.
