Chapter 42 - Bad Day
"IT'S TIME TO GET UP!"
Cross woke up to Flowey shrieking in his face, groggily blinking as he looked around his surroundings.
Still in the ally.
Still out of the castle.
Still Ink with two broken legs.
Still a nervous Alphys.
Still a slightly annoying Flowey.
It was weird how quickly Cross' life got flipped around. He had been working for the same Boss for years, doing basic chores of cleaning and cooking, the suddenly a person burst in through the door and murdered his Boss, sending all of these events in to motion. Being interrogated by Sans, lying to him, having to help the Vampire Killing Group, getting kidnapped, escaping by hitting this hooded guy in the back of his head, meeting Alphys, and then once again in the streets.
What an adventure.
"I'm up, I'm up," Cross said, sitting up with Flowey still on his chest, making the small flower fall with objection.
"Welcome back to the world of death and misery, we need food and water," Ink said blunty as soon as Cross stood up.
If the chilly air and the awkward silence of the air was to be based off of, Cross predicted is was before the sun was fully up. Alphys probably woke them all up early so that way they could get started earlier and get over more land in a day.
"U-Um, I have enough g-gold on me to get us some f-food and water rations for o-only t-today though," Alphys said.
"It would be best if we saved it for later, since we can go a few days without food," The broken legged skeleton said.
"Good i-idea," The female said.
"Are we heading off right away then?" Cross asked, standing up.
"Yeah, hurry up," The golden flower grunted.
~~~~~~
"I want to complain about how I woke up!" Fell yelled when he walked into the living room.
"Sit down, everyone's been complaining this morning, I am not in the mood," Error snapped, pointing to the old couch.
"Grumpy," Dust grumbled from the floor, pulling at his grey hood.
"I think we should all take a break today," Death said, petting the pet skunk sitting on his lap.
"I told you not in the house!" Error yelled, his voice glitching as his eye sockets filled up with angry symbols.
"Guess who didn't get his nightly tucking in?" Killer sang from the couch.
Everyone froze as a red tinted bone pierced the cusion next to Killer, the room going silent for a moment.
"You missed," Death snickered loudly.
"NoT ToDaY gUyS." The leader of the vampires said coldly.
The remaining standing of the group sat down in a frenzy, not wanting to further upset the skeleton in any type of way. He ran a hand over his face, sighing loudly.
"Fell, do you think you're ready to go into the castle?" He asked.
"What?" Fell perked up.
"We're starting to need all of the help we can get," Error said, "First off with the whole vampire killing group, then with the freaking diary incident, and now with two witnesses escaping and we can't find them! So now we need to just go into the castle and deal with it ourselves!"
"Yeah, yeah!" The gold toothed male said, sitting up, "I can! Trust me, I can do this!"
"Good," Error said, "We're in a crises mode, we need all of the vampires we can get for this."
"Wait, what are we even doing?" Killer asked.
"We're going to be invaded the castle and stealing stuff, you're staying here and watching over the place."
"What, why?"
Errors expression went dark before he turned to the other.
"Why?" He asked, his right eye socket twitching, "WHY?"
"Here we go," Horror said, rolling his pupils as he leaned back.
"After that little stunt that you and Nightmare pulled last night, I'm letting either of you leave the house," He said.
"What exactly did you two do last night?" D.B asked, glancing over at Nightmare and Killer.
"Snuck out and accidently burned down a house," Nightmare said casually.
"But why?" Fell asked.
"It was being mean, obviously," Dust said.
"I SWEAR TO TOBY FOX I AM THIS CLOSE TO LOSING MY SH*T!" Error screeched, flailing his arms.
"I think boss man needs to have a nap," Death said, floating up from the couch.
"I DON'T NEED A NAP! I NEED VAMPIRES WHO DON'T ACT STUPID!"
"That's asking too much!" Dust said.
"I know vampires don't need sleep, but I think sleep might help clear your head," The cloaked male said calmly, putting a hand on his leaders back and turning towards where his room is, "I think your just a bit overwhelmed with everything. Having to deal with that burned down house, then having to deal with this, just take a nap and I'll handle the arrangements, alright?"
"Fine, I'll leave it in your hands."
He took a big gulp of air and turned back to his fellow vampires one more time, a frown on his skull.
"Listen to him, and I swear to Toby Fox if something else happens today I'm going to scream and throw things."
"Got it!" Everyone said, afraid of Error losing his cool completely.
"Don't scare them to death," Error said to the oldest skeleton next to him before he paced off.
"THAT WAS A PUN!" Fell laughed.
"Cool dog, Death is in charge," Dust said, "Guess I need to make a Death team shirt to show support for when the final battle happens and Death rules over this universe."
"While that does sound very fun," Death said, pointing to Dust, "Not right now."
"Then later, I'll write that down in my To-Do list," Dust said.
"And you didn't invite me to burn down a house?" Death said, then turning to Nightmare and Killer, "I'm offended."
"We didn't plan it, it just happened," Killer said, shrugging.
"How did you accidently burn down a house when neither of your magic is involved in any type of fire?" D.B asked, brushing some of her blond hair aside from her eyes.
"Unsure," Nightmare said.
"Sounded like fun," Death grumbled, "I think we would at least try to make Error in a better mood tonight. Just get in there, look around for the diary, and then leave."
Horror glanced around before lowering slightly in his seat, anxiety crawling up his back. He wouldn't tell anyone about Lust and the diary, since it wasn't like telling them would make anything better. They'd raid her gouse, cause a scene, then accidently set it in fire. It might not even be in there. Lust is smart, she probably had people on standby to spread it out if anything happened to her. It would just be better of he earned her trust and got the book her way so that he could destroy it easily.
"I'm so ready to finally go to the freakin' castle, you guys have no idea!" Fell had said, basically to himself.
~~~~~~
Lust glanced over the newspaper, lightly drinking from the cup of tea set next to him. He was wearing a simple dress now, with light blue coloring and white edges. Grillby had left a little bit ago to go do whatever he said, the detail already distant in Lusts mind.
The newspapers of their Kingdom were always boring and had no interesting stories, but the King put them out because of the propaganda filling every corner of the page. Lust never believed them, but of you didn't buy one you would be considered suspicious, so he unhappily bought copies. He ususally just grew more and more angry at Asgore with each sentence he read.
'Asgore gives hope to the Kingdom by spying on the other Kingdoms who plan on destroying us all!'
That's not true. He's only been taking away hope, not giving it.
'Asgore helps rebuild broken family!'
Lust was pretty sure that they were going to be executed today, if he was correct. He heard it from a couple Royal Guards passing by before.
Gossip, in this Kingdom, was more trustworthy than anything the King says, that's for sure.
But gossip was different then taking action. Gossip itself was risky, since people actually told the truth, rumors of what evil deed the King did for the day spreading among whispers and hushed tones. Heads would be turned down when spoken, eyes darting around. Lust even had some tea parties with ladies, and they would hide within the walls of one of their large homes and talk away from windows about Asgore over a newly brewed cup of tea that other people needed more then they did.
"Lust, you're spacing out again."
He blinked a few times to see Grillby sitting down across from him, cutting up the fried egg with his fork as Lust set down the newspaper.
"Just thinking," He said.
"Is it about that person you snuck out to see last night?"
Lust froze up, glancing over at his husband.
"How did you find out that quickly?" He asked.
"You slammed your knee on the windowframe sneaking in through the back, I could hear you cursing all the way to your room," Grillby said, pointing to the window out of the kitchen doorway and barely in sight.
"I figured I was sneaky enough to at least keep it hidden from you for a couple of days," Lust said.
"I've lived with you for over five years, I know you," The flame monster said, nibbling on his food, "But I just got a message."
"Oh?" The skeleton asked, "From who?"
"King Asgore."
His 'wife' paused from his actions of twirling his food on his fork before looking up, shocked from what he just learned.
"Why would he call us?" He asked.
"He wants us to come in today. Right after we eat."
~~~~~~
"This is showing great progress," Gaster said, smiling at the machine in front of him.
It was in the shape of the average human male, the skin metal and the head deattached from the body completely. There was a large cable jutting from the center of the chest to the wall, going through the wall to who knows where.
"It is!" Bubbly said, "But you said a powerful magic and energy source, one as powerful as a soul, would need to get it moving to it's full ability and make it be able to fight as much as the average person would. Do you have any plans for that?"
"When I get finished with it's exterior, then we can start with the power source problem," The tall skeleton said, frowning over at her, "This is bejng designed with the purpose of a war, remember? You were on that ship that went to Asgore's country, you saw how focused on war he is. And your friends both fought against his soldiers. Speaking of them, how is that girl with her training? Purple one?"
"Oh, PurpleFluffball!" Bubbly said, "Yeah, she said it's going pretty good!"
"I see," Gaster said, "I hope that doesn't change, then."
《》《》《》
I have discovered that I write the best on the later hours of the day.
At 11 PM apparently.
Yay?
