Chapter 26 - Fell's Guilt
"I was so stupid..."
Fell hugged himself lightly as he jumped backwards onto his bed in his shared room, his sharpened teeth frowning as he buried his skull into his knees.
"So darn stupid..." He said, shaking his head.
~~~~~~
That night, he could've contained his anger. He could've found a way to convince Edge that going out into battle wasn't the best option, or waited until King Asgore had withdrawn all of his forces a year later.
But he had let his emotions take control, and he had stormed out.
It had been snowing that night, he could remember it clearly. He was grumbling insults to himself about his family member, kicking a few stray clumps of snow in anger. Fell had just focused on the snow, so he didn't see the vampire approaching until it had tapped his shoulder.
"You look like you're in a bad mood," Dyrus had pointed out that day.
"Yeah, no sh*t," Fell spat out.
"I'm guessing some sort of relationship problem then? Girlfriend cheat on you?" The tall skeleton asked.
"Family member going to the war," Fell admitted, sighing lightly, "I guess I can't stop it, huh?"
"But you don't have to deal with it."
On that night, the vampire had offered him a way out. Fell was still a young child back then, ignorant to how other citizens could easily trick him. However, he thought the King was only evil, so he believed Dyrus, and accepted his offer.
He wanted to become a vampire.
If only he knew what that really meant.
He had loved his cousin, Edge, he was his only family left. Edge had saved him when he had almost dusted himself, catching Fell before he dusted. Sure, the crack on his skull was a result of the accident, but he was alive. That's why he had been angry, Edge was throwing himself into danger like he did. But, he ended up doing the same, throwing himself into a situation without thinking of the consequences.
He didn't realize that he would only be allowed out at night, since he wasn't a powerful monster to even begin with. He didn't realize that if people saw him with his fangs, they would try to kill him on the spot. He didn't realize that he would lose most of his friendships just like that.
He didn't realize he was never allowed to see his brother again.
Shortly after he had been brought to the mansion, Dyrus had been killed due to betrayal, so he had no one to really turn to, no one to talk to. He had unintentionally began a new life while his friends and one family member had to deal with his sudden disappearance. Training had been difficult, he couldn't focus on anything except for how stupid he was.
Who in their right mind would just say yes to becoming a "demon", as people had whispered before, from a shady looking person?
~~~~~~
Fell didn't care that he was a small child who was dealing with possibly losing his family member, and he didn't care that he had been caught off guard in his most vulnerable state, he still said yes and ruined his life. He wasn't even allowed to watch his cousin from the shadows, he wasn't as good as sneaking as everyone else. He was clumsy, knocking down items left and right. Not to mention he would want to leap into his cousins arms if he ever saw him again, blowing their cover. It's not like anyone else in their base was allowed to see their old families either, if they were still alive.
That's why Fell didn't like Nightmare very much, he was jealous of him. Nightmare was allowed to go see his brother and watch him, Nightmare was almost the same age as him, yet somehow he was more powerful and more experienced then Fell. Not to mention he even was smarter than Fell, which made him upset.
Why did Nightmare get closure and he didn't?
Life was unfair.
He knew he had made a mistake, but at least it wasn't completely terrible. He made new friends at least, and Dust was hilarious, but playing chess over and over with the same, predictable people got tiring.
Not to mention how much he just wanted to see Edge again. He had spent days thinking over what he would say, how the situation would go, everything was planned out in different ways.
Thing was, until he was strong enough to be allowed out during the day near his cousin, that wouldn't happen.
Maybe he'd go out that night.
Not to that dumb party, that wouldn't be any fun at all even if he was allowed. He wasn't allowed near the castle, only on the outskirts of the rich town to the chess set in a small public place where he challenged other people. He had made a few friends there, that's why he knew this Kingdom wasn't hopeless. There was good people out there, that were good sports when they lost chess to him.
He was really good at chess.
Fell and Edge had played chess better then they had learned how to read. Chess was their go to game as children when they felt stressed, so he often took advantage of the old set they had in their small supply closet, and the public one where he made friends at during his free time.
Maybe he'd play chess while imagining his opponent as Edge again.
~~~~~~
"Let's go guys!" Blue said, hurrying the skeletons out of the door.
"Wow, you seem rather excited for this," Dream said, smiling at Blue.
"Of course, this shows hope for everyone!" Blue said, grinning at him before running off towards the direction of where the sending off would take place.
Dream and Sans had to weave throughout running servants everywhere, since the party was so sudden and they had to prepare it all. This wasn't the first time something like this will be throw onto them out of nowhere, and it most likely won't be the last, either.
"Everyone sure is being busy today, huh?" Sans asked Dream when Dream had paused walking to try let two servants pass.
"Yeah, all of the servants have to throw together a sudden party in only an hour, of course they'd be in a hurry," Dream said.
It reminded Sans of when he had a school assembly in his school. Children were running through the halls, screaming, yelling, and shoving others left and right. It had been utter chaos then, and it was chaotic now.
Some things never change.
"Hey," Sans said, turning to Dream, "Something important happened yesterday, something that I think you should probably know happened."
"If it's another pun I'm going to cry," Dream warned Sans, afraid of a pun that might be shot at him.
"I think we should go somewhere private," Sans said, glancing around.
Now, if there was one thing about the short skeleton, it was that he was never serious. Dream had went to high school with Sans, and he had never tried to do anything in his life. He just happened to have talent at academics, so he easily went through school without trying. And with his magic levels being naturally good for dodging, he never had to work much. Sans would always have a lazy grin on his face as he never had to try on anything, a "I don't give a crap" attitude constantly. Heck, once Sans had to train some servants and did it with his eyes closed. Perhaps power had given him no need to worry, since Sans would have no problem fixing it.
But the cold, dead serious look on his face had Dream staring in worry. If Sans was serious, it was something big. Something very big.
"Okay..." Dream said in a worried tone, his voice wavering slightly.
"Follow me."
And so Dream did, following closely behind Sans as he lead him down one doorway, only to appear inside of a small room on the opposite side of the castle. That was something Sans did often, going off in one direction and using his powers to appear in the other direction.
Geno was inside of the room too, seeming to have been waiting for Dream. Maybe that was why Sans how shown up randomly inside of Blue's room, there was most likely a reason.
"We didn't want to alarm Blue, since he usually doesn't deal well with these kinds of things," Sans explained, sitting down onto the couch.
"With fighting possible threats, that is," Geno added on, leaning against the wall as he ate an apple.
"Did something happen?" Dream asked them, sitting down across from Sans on the other couch.
"When Blue and I had went out to see if there was any information about Ink or Cross near the main part of the city," The scarred skeleton started the story, "It turns out someone had been following us."
"What?" Dream asked, his eye sockets widening, "Who? Did you manage to see who it was, or even catch them?"
"Problem was, I didn't figure it out, and neither did Blue," Geno muttered.
"And I only managed to see them following Blue and Geno since I was following Blue and Geno," Sans added onto the problem.
That was bad. Geno was extremely good at what he did, no one could follow him without him knowing it. No one could keep a secret from him since Geno was extremely good at digging them up. That's how he managed to become the Minister of War, through trickery and manipulation. That's also why King Asgore probably didn't mind him as much as others, since Geno is smart and cunning. If Geno ever got in trouble, his punishment would be lessened compared to others.
And Sans never got in trouble with King Asgore for reasons.
"Oh no..." Dream said, "They figured out we had the book, found out that Ink and Cross don't have it, and are probably are looking for it with us."
"That's why I teleported you here, so if they were following us they wouldn't know where we were for a bit and so we could talk and plan about it."
The Jury member looked over at the Royal Judge, who seemed to be lost in thought as he had said that. This situation wasn't just another situation they found themselves inside of, he was thinking about it and trying to figure out what to do. He was actually worried, and that terrified Dream.
There was something more to this vampire case then he knew, and Sans was hiding something from him.
Dream could tell that was the case.
Ok, let me explain the schedule now.
I'm not going to have one anymore.
School and family will always come first for me, and this is a hobby that's third on the list. Homework has been piling on, especially since I'm in an Honors class, but I've managed to get it out now! Don't worry about me dropping this book, that isn't going to happen. Just give me some time, and I'll get a chapter out eventually.
