Chapter 17 - Death

Death chuckled as he glanced down at the floor in front of him and Fell, glancing over at the skeleton with a large grin on his face.

"What an unfortunate circumstance Dust has found," Death said, not at all bothered that their two victims had escaped from their restraints and had yet to be found again.

"Yeah, he's definitely out cold," Fell said, kicking Dust's unconscious body.

"Don't do that," Error said, looking over at Fell.

Fell maintained pupil contact with Error as he slowly brought back his right leg, softly kicking Dust in front of Error as he picked between his teeth with a tooth pick. Error sighed, face-palming at the action of the kicking.

"Go bring Dust to his room," Error said to Fell, "And Death, aren't you even kinda concerned about our escaped witnesses? They know where our main base is, we'll have to find another place to relocate to. Not to mention they probably still have that diary of Horror's, which is just great for us!"

"Oh, no, they don't have any lead on how to kill us," Death said, grinning confidently at the leader, "I doubt they'll be having any sort of idea anytime soon. And for the whole witness thing, don't worry about it too much, we should be concerned about Fell not taking showers more than the witness situation."

Fell, who had been dragging Dust by his feet out the door, paused, asking a very loud, "You say what now?"

"And don't drag him by the feet!" Error snapped.

Death was a creepy person, which everyone who knew him could agree to. He would appear out of nowhere randomly, and disappear just the same way, no spark of magic whenever people teleport. He was a cloaked skeleton, the cloak covering his whole body instead of his skull, which had many shadows casted over it ominously. Adding onto that, he had a seemingly never vanishing creepy grin and glowing white pupils that seemed to even stare into someone's soul. The air around his would noticeable shift wherever he went, making people's hairs stand on the back of their neck when he was near. That was how the vampires knew he was nearby, they would notice the changed atmosphere, then figure out Death must be nearby before getting jump scared.

Another quote by Dust in this sense was, "I sense the feeling of utter terror. That must mean-GAH!"

Death wasn't good at entering a room without at least terrifying one person within said room.

No one really knew how old he was, since he had been there when Error, the second oldest of them all, turned into a vampire. He had always just been there with his creepy grin, always seeming to know what to expect from everyone.

That was because Death was very good at reading people, so good that just a glance at them and he could predict what exactly they would do with 100% accuracy every single time. He had been alive for quite some time by then, so it just came naturally to him.

And it scared the sh*t out of everyone else.

That was why Death was so confident, because he could read anyone and everyone. He knew if they were going to attack or not, how people would react to seeing death, he could even predict the future of the Kingdom just by thinking about it for a little bit.

It didn't take a genius to know the Kingdom was going to collapse.

Death knew this as soon as he had took a glance at their King. Almost instantly, he could pinpoint that in the next five to ten years, that King Asgore would declare a war he couldn't win, and it would be his downfall.

That was eight years ago.

Whenever he was going to declare the war, it was going to be soon.

That's why Death wasn't very worried about any of this at all, since he knew the end of the Kingdom was approaching quickly. So, this situation was more funny then anything, since the Kingdom wouldn't be standing for much longer anyway, so all of this was basically a waste of time.

Of course, he wasn't going to tell them about it, he knew that would cause more trouble then it was worth. If the Kingdom fell, another one would take the land, and then they could just continue living on in the shadows. It was just going to be a change in targets, to see who is evil and who wasn't.

That was just the way of the world.

"And I doubt they'll be able to get far in the place we've located out base," Death chuckled, "Once they find their way out of the forest, they'll just find that not many people will help them out here."

Their location was actually quite perfect for holding hostages of high position. They were located deep inside of the forest, in the part no person would dare venture, because of the rumors of murderous vampires (Which wasn't exactly wrong), and the way the forest even was.

Because of the land structure of the forest, no animals could live inside of it, millions tree roots twisting and turning along the ground. It was void of all sort of life, encouraging people who wonder into the forest to run out from how uneasy it made them feel. Large holes plaguing the ground here and there, making traversing the roots very difficult, especially if you weren't a vampire and didn't have teleporting abilities. The only people who could teleport all the way to the castle, which was on the other side of the Kingdom, and back, were Nightmare, Error, and Death. It exhausted everyone else too much.

The forest itself wasn't too much hassle to go through when you have the powers that they did. One of the females had monster cat DNA within her, so she could easily jump from tree to tree no problem. And Death just floated everywhere, so he could just float over the holes and not risk falling into them into the caves below. Error would use his strings to swing from branch to branch, sometimes using them to catch others who fell into the caves, like when Dust had not been paying attention to his own life.

Then, if they even managed to get though the forest, beyond the sea of trees was the poorest part of the Kingdom, full of angry people who could snap at any moment. So, if anyone of power even stepped foot inside of the towns surrounding the forest, they would probably get attacked instantly because of their clothing. And since the vampires often targeted higher ups, due to their corrupt thoughts, so making it back to the castle would be an obviously impossible task.

Perfect location for their deeds, really.

Their building was small and old, due to their lack of much money being outcasts. It was an old factory that had been mostly buried by a landslide that had occurred around thirty years ago, the entrance was a simple door they had added onto the second floor, since part of the second floor stuck out above the ground. Most of the bigger rooms converted into smaller rooms by adding in thin walls without proper insulation. Some of the floors had been wood, while some of the others had still been concrete, it really depended on which side of the factory you were on. Most of the windows had been sealed shut, since they were practically useless.

Another way their location for their base was perfect for hostages.

"So, what you're saying is that we shouldn't go looking for the people who we desperately need information from?" Error asked, raising an eye socket to mimic raising an eyebrow.

"We both know they won't make it far," Death said, "Especially without their powers."

"Then they'll die, and I don't want them to die because I need information from them!" Error said, throwing his hands into the air, "So why do you seem to calm about this!"

"I have a feeling you'll see them, especially the Jury member," Death said, winking at him during the second part.

"What was that wink for?" The leader questioned.

"Oh, nothing," Death chuckled, "I just have a feeling you two will get along."

"I don't like that look on your face," Error said, squinting at him.

"I think it's called beauty, something you've never had on your face," Death joked.

~~~~~~
"Watch out, another big hole on your right."
"Oka-EEK!"
"I said a big hole on your right."
Nightmare was leading Ink and Cross throughout the forest to help them escape, but once they reached the town, he had said before, they were on their own. And he said he didn't have the keys to their magic collars either, since they could only be unlocked by a specially made keys that came with the bracelets. Or, they were hit with enough force to be cracked off, but with their one H.P stats, that was a big no for that option.
So, walking it was.
Ink muttered complaints in Nightmare's tentacule that was carrying him over the terrain, him having to be carried since he couldn't walk. And since Nightmare didn't want to carry Cross, and Cross didn't want to be confined by a gooey looking skeleton after just escaping from his house in the middle of the creepy woods, so Cross didn't mind that Nightmare didn't offer to hold him as well.
Cross had been following Nightmare closely, keeping an eye socket out for anyone else who might attack or a sudden turn from Nightmare, bit with the deadly silence of the forest around them, he didn't have to look out that much, his hearing would detect anyone coming from a mile away.
Cross had stumbled his way throughout the forest after the vampire, not being very good with his balance. The terrain of the forest was different then any thing he had ever seen, instead of a flat piece of grassy dirt that he could easily step on, the ground was made mostly of twisted roots of the trees surrounding him, gaps between them scattered randomly. There was barely any actual land, so walking across the chaotic floor was extremely difficult, not to mention it was also slippery, so he had to be careful.
"Um, r-right..." Cross stuttered, keeping an uncertain look on his face as he overlooked the skeleton in front of him.
He wasn't like others, since they didn't have any sort of goo covering their body. It made Cross feel uncomfortable being defenseless around this unusual monster, the collar around his neck starting to itch. He couldn't feel his magic, and he hated it, not having his powers was going to drive him crazy.
"Large hole, better keep careful," Nightmare said, looking down at the hole.
He went to grab Cross' wrist, but Cross jerked back, holding his wrist as his pupils stared at the outstreched hand uneasily.
A hand that could easily snap his bones.
"Stop being a baby, I was going to help you across this root," Nightmare said, gesturing to a root.
"I can help myself..." Cross said.
Nightmare shrugged, walking across it easily and turning back towards Cross expectantly. He put one foot on the root, than fully stood on it, sticking out his arms as he felt the root shift under his weight.
The skeleton took careful steps across, each one guided and nervous. He was most of the way across before his footing slipped, him yelping as he fell forward.
Into Nightmare's chest.
He barely had time to process what happened before Nightmare had grabbed his pelvis and suddenly lifted him into the air, pressing him against his chest.
"You're way too slow for my liking," Nightmare said, wrapping Cross' legs around his torso, "I'm going to have to carry you so the others don't follow our trail."
So, with Cross in his arms like a child and an annoyed Ink being carried by his tentacules, Nightmare carried on their trip. Cross was too scared by the closeness of his body to even be able to focus on his surroundings, his soul thudding nervously in his chest. He could only focus on the skeleton carrying him, and of he would try to stab them at any moment.
But he never did, never reminded Cross of his place, never did any of that. With a sudden stop, he had set down Cross and Ink, announcing that they were at the edge of the forest.
"Thank you, for your help," Ink said, "It's appreciated."
"Just remember to tell Dream to stop looking for me, say that you found a vase of dust with my name on it," Nightmare said, narrowing his eyes at them, "And if you don't, just know I only need one messenger to send it."
《》《》《》
I read some time ago about a forest in Japan that's nick-named the suicide forest because it's so quiet there that some people commit suicide, so I decided to use that as a basis for the forest that the vampires base is located in, void of animal life and just plain creepy and makes people go paranoid. Sounded perfect for their base!
And I googled it during school, so I'm probably going to get called down to the Office or something, whoops.
Also, about the window thing, when you look our their windows it just looks like it's pitch black, so Cross thought it was night time and didn't realize if he opened the window he would let in a flood of dirt. And Horror could see out of his window to see the sun because his and Dust's room is near the only entrance and exit on the second floor, he sleeps in the small part of the building that sticks out from the ground.
Also, finally, Death makes an appearance in the story, I know, I know, *bows* I finally put him in, I'm so proud.
One last thing...
Keep in mind fanart of scenes is totally welcome!
