Chapter 14 - Up And About

Drip

Is this seriously how he was going to go insane?

He was going to go insane from that stupid dripping sound.

If Cross has an eyebrow, it would be twitching so much he would be convinced that it would've flown off of his skull. Perhaps that's why he doesn't have an eyebrow. He had grown annoyed by people in his childhood so much that his eyebrows were just gone. That would explain so much.

Cross had woken up awhile ago, his red and white pupils darting back and forth as his breathing quickened. The room was dark, so he couldn't make out much around him, only that ropes were looped between his ankle and wrist bones, so it would hurt when he moved. And he could also tell that he was sitting on something unsteady, uneven, some sort of broken chair. Cross wiggled in his chair, testing out the wood. It creaked under his weight, so that meant it wasn't very durable.

Which was a wood he could probably break.

Drip

Yeah, that was already getting annoying real quick.

The dripping had been there since he woke up, it sounded like water, probably because of some sort of leaking pipe. He knew it wasn't rain, since it never rained in the Kingdom anymore. He didn't know why exactly, but his theory was pollution. Either way, it didn't rain very often, so that meant he was somewhere near pipes.

Drip

Ok, shut up already.

He had already figured out there was a soul magic blocker for monsters was around his neck by the pressure he felt in his rib cage, a clear indication that some sort of monster soul blocking device had been placed around his neck. So, monster magic was no option.

As if that would stop Cross.

This wasn't his first time being kidnapped. It wasn't a rare occurrence for servants like him anymore inside of the corrupt Kingdom. Servants were considered weak, but also were close to people of power, so many people kidnapped servants to try and get information out of them. Cross had been kidnapped twice before, once by this monster who wanted to know if his Boss liked him (Cross had been released shortly after, the guy had basically shoved him into his bedroom for an hour to talk about crushes then let him go, so he didn't need to escape), and when a group of humans had tried to get information on any dirt on his Boss to see if they could blackmail him. Cross had escaped then by sneaking out a window.

So, this was the third time Cross had been kidnapped, and he was already sick of it.

Drip

The first time had practically been a laugh, and the second time only took his a few minutes to use his magic to teleport out of his restraints and find a way back to his job.

However, with this restraint on his monster soul, he couldn't teleport.

And that wouldn't be a problem.

Cross wasn't like other monsters, who had a full soul. He was a monster who had multiple personalities, also called the Dissociative Identity Disorder. Usually, when monsters had that disorder, the personalities would fight over power of the body and soul at birth, and the rest would be shattered from the soul, leaving a fragment of a soul, which would, overtime, grow back into a normal sized soul with the natural soul regeneration.

Obviously, that hadn't happened with the servant skeleton.

All of his separate personalities weren't monster. Somehow, some of them had turned out to be human, so he had a mixture of multiple monster and human souls. The humans had fought for the rights of the human parts, and the monsters fought for the rights of the monster parts. Thus, a human won and a monster won. When the souls regenerated, he half one half of a monster soul, and one half of a human soul.

Which was how Cross ended up with a red pupil and a white one.

Just because the human wasn't in control didn't mean that they weren't watching. They always stood inside of the background of his mind, watching events play out. Cross didn't hate them, they just never really wanted to take control. Why would they even want to live inside of this life, anyway? He couldn't blame them, his other personality was a person who just wanted to sit back, and enjoy life with no problems, while he was more of the type of monster who just wanted to make it through life, even if he did stumble through it like a drunk pig.

Chara was the name of his other personality, a male with pure white hair and glaring red eyes. He knew that because when Chara took control over the body, it would change entirely into a human body with that look. It was very rare Chara would take any sort of control, since they would almost instantly get bored and let him have the reigns again. Which was fortunate, because it would be hard to explain to his superiors why he had suddenly changed into a human with a different voice than him.

Drip

Oh Toby Fox, just shut up already!

"You called?"

The sudden voice of his alternate personality startled the skeleton, causing him to jolt from the sudden voice in his head. That was one thing Chara did whenever he called for him, he would pop up with no warning before Cross even could call him.

Drip

"Yeah, I did," Cross said inside of his head to the human, "You think you could help me get out of these restraints?"

"Easily. But don't you want to meet the people who did this?"

"Not really. You saw who they were, didn't you?"

Drip

"Yeah, I did," Chara said, "One of them totally has a crush on you."

"A kidnapper has a crush on me?" Cross asked in disbelief.

"Pretty sure, yeah."

"Just get me out of the ropes."

"You'll need to help, break out of the chair. Just wiggle around until it breaks under your fat weight, then I'll get rid of the ropes."

"I'm just bones."

Drip

"Heavy bones."

Cross rolled his eyes, quickly pushing his body weight to one side. The chair groaned under his weight, so he tried kicking against the leg, which practically snapped like a twig, the chair practically collapsing in on itself from the sudden attack. The male fell to the ground with them, his bones scratching against the cold floor as he fell.

Ow.

"Forgot to mention, you seem to be in a basement of some sort," His alter personality chimed in, "So, the floor is concrete."

"Thanks for the heads up."

He sat up, squinting through the darkness as he tried to see how exactly his legs and arms were tied. No luck, obviously, since he wasn't a monster with the ability to see in the dark, he wasn't that lucky to have night vision. In fact, his vision was completely opposite of night vision, he was practically blind in the dark. It didn't matter if he waited for his eye sockets to get used to it, because they didn't.

"Alright, time for my time to shine," Chara said happily.

He could feel the half of the human soul pulsing against his own restrained soul as a large, glowing red knife appeared next to him, the sharp edge of the knife propped up by a stray piece of his broken down chair. He swung his legs to the right, quickly positioning the rope between his ankles over it and swiping his feet to the ground, effectively cutting through the material like butter.

Drip

If there was one thing Chara could do, it was make extremely sharp knifes.

What a talent to have.

Well, in their corrupt Kingdom where murder was a daily thing, and judging by how he literally had just been kidnapped in one of the most secure places of the Kingdom, it was quiet helpful.

Just then he registered how freaking much his head hurt. How did he not notice until then?

Drip

He decided to ignore the throbbing pain and continued on with twisting his rib cage around so his bound wrists were hovering above the knife, being more careful as he lowered the rope to the sharp object. If he wasn't careful, well, let's just say he didn't want to be a pile of dust on the floor.

He hated his stupid one H.P, but with the conditions he lived inside of, raising it wouldn't happen for a long, long time.

Or ever.

Once that was done, attempted to take off his soul restraint, only to find it was too secured around his neck to be taken off without the key. Having a soul constraint was practically shutting a monster off from who they were, all monsters hated them, so this wouldn't be fun for him. But somehow not King Asgore, probably because he was a tyrant who would never get thrown into jail because he was King.

"Well, have fun with your basement party and trying to find Ink," Chara said, his voice fading into the back of his mind as Chara's personality left the discussion.

Ink?

Oh, right! Ink! Cross has witnessed Ink getting kidnapped, which was how he, in turn, also got kidnapped.

Keep in mind, don't be a witness anymore. He had already been one twice by then, and it was really starting to get the skeleton into trouble.

But first, he had to get out of the trouble he was already inside of before getting himself into deeper crap.

Drip

Cross made the mistake of not sticking out his hands, quickly getting a faceful of a wooden wall. He then felt along the wall to find a door, only to find some sort of valve instead.

This might do something helpful, why not turn it?

Yeah, Cross wasn't that stupid, he wouldn't actually turn the valve. Judging by the dripping, if he turned it the wrong direction, the room would probably start to flood, attracting the kidnappers, which was the exact opposite of what he wanted.

He kept along the wall, finding multiple pipes and the corner of the room, quickly turning as he felt through the dark abyss of the room. Eventually, he found a door, quietly pulling it open to peak into an empty dimly lit hallway.

Now he was getting somewhere.

《》《》《》

Sorry for the theory where Cross was half vampire, I had this plan from the start. He's still half human and half monster, only with a personality disorder.

Trust me, it'll affect the plot quite a bit.

All I can think about is food right now, i'm about to eat lunch, so I can't wait!
