Chapter 10 - Feeling
Well then.
This wasn't good.
Not at all.
So, Ink had went back to the castle, then found out he had somehow swapped out the book for the wrong one. Obviously Dream had read a vampire book when he was in the library, but somehow he had lost it. Ink wasn't really sure how.
He had the same one the whole time, at least he thought he did have it.
So what happened?
~~~~~~
Ink saw the exit in sight, hurrying his pace towards it.
And then he slammed into something.
Both Lust and Ink fell to the ground with an "old", the books they eere holding scattered around them near the exit. While Ink had only been holding one book, Lust had a stack of them, so there were multiple books scattered around them.
"Oh, I apologize," Lust said, standing up and offering his hand out for Ink.
"I'm in a rush, sorry!" Ink said, ignoring his hand as he grabbed the nearest book near him and stumbling to his feet, opening the door.
"Oh, ok," Lust said, before noticing a book on the ground that hadn't been his.
"Oh, Mister!" He called, throwing open the door and calling down the stairs, "You forgot you're book! You have the wron- and he didn't hear me..."
Lust stood there, looking down into the practically empty room as he held the old book in his hands, that he was pressing against his ribcage.
"Lust, you dropped your books," Grillby said, drawing Lust from his thoughts.
"Oh yes, it does seem so, silly me," Lust said, looking over, "I'll pick those up."
So, they did, Lust mixing the book into his stack of books. Well, he'd have to keep an eye out for that skeleton, he looked like a fellow high class member, so maybe Lust would run into him. So, he'd keep it for awhile and try to find him.
"We can go home now," Grillby offered, "Since you got all of the books you wanted, right?"
"Right."
~~~~~~
Ink sat up in realization.
"I must've dropped the stuoid thing!" Ink groaned to himself, "When I bumped into that girl, and I dropped it. It's probably still there!"
He quickly stood up from his chair, quickly running to the door and flinging it open-
Well, this explains that gut feeling.
Before he even had a chance to use magic, or even react for that matter, he had been grabbed suddenly, him dropping the fake book from his hands out of surprise. Poor Ink didn't even get a second to scream before a wave of magic had washed over him, a spell that would make him go unconscious almost instantly.
Which he did.
Horror steadied Ink in his arms, picking him up quietly while Nightmare picked up the book from the floor.
"Horror, this isn't your diary," Nightmare said.
"What?" Horror asked, looking over.
"Did we just see things?" Nightmare asked.
"No, I definitely saw my diary," Horror grumbled, "Maybe-"
"Ink, I was hoping I could ask you a qu-"
And awkward silence hung into the air as Cross rounded the corner from Ink's kitchen, a bowl of batter in his hands. All of the skeletons had froze when he walked in, including himself, the bowl clattering to the ground as its contents spilled out across the newly cleaned carpet.
Nightmare, who had been holding the magic gun (it had been developed by monsters with magic, so hospitals could knock out patients before starting a procedure. It had condensed magic inside of it good for three hits, monsters having to refill them with their magic each time. The machine would convert any magic into sleeping magic, so any monster could do it. Dust had snatched it from a hospital, and it proved helpful to the vampires greatly), blasted it at Cross before he could scream, causing his pupils to roll back into his skull before he crumbled to the floor, unconscious like the Jury member in Horror's arms.
"He's a witness, we'll have to take him too," Horror sighed.
"I'll carry him!" Nightmare volunteered, shuffling over to Cross and picking him up happily.
"You seem a little too eager to pick him up," Horror said, "Is he the guy that you stole his pillow from?"
"You aren't going to hurt him, or else..." Nightmare growled, suddenly appearing in front of Horror with his tentacules sticking out threatenly from behind his back, "I won't let you."
"Toby Fox!" Horror jumped out of fear, "I didn't mean it like that!"
"Good," Nightmare said, "We should get going, shouldn't we?"
~~~~~~
"Welcome back Dream!" Sci said, "Did you figure it out yet?"
"No, I didn't," Dream sighed, sitting down at the table next to him, "I know what I read, it was a promising book!"
"What was it, exactly?" Edge asked.
"It looked like a diary written by a vampire, the first page was written by hand, not copied," Dream said.
"What did it say?" Geno asked, taking a gulp of his soda.
"It said this exactly," Dream said, closing his eyes, "It has been a few days since I've been turned, I think I'm feeling better now. They've all been really helpful to me, even though I'm still generally new to all of this and was a servant. I guess they don't really care about ranking. Well, this place may be small, but they've all seemed to make it home. I'm sharing a room with this other person, they seem pretty nice, and kinda powerful, too. He can use both his monster magic and his vampire magic, he's only a little older than me, too, so it's like having a brother. Well, a vampire brother, but still."
"Was that all you read?' Sci asked.
"Yeah, I sent Ink out afterwards after I read the vampire part," Dream said.
"I think we should go talk to Ink though," Geno said, "After all, we should try to figure out how he ended up with a manual for different types of dresses."
"Did he purposely swap it out for another book?" Edge asked.
"No, he wouldn't," Sci said, "There must've been a mistake, or something on the way over."
"What if vampires have the ability to alter memory?" Sci asked, "Perhaps a vampire had been at the library and saw the book, then swapped out the books and altered his memory."
"They'd just let him leave like that though?" Sci asked, "Wouldn't-"
He was interrupted by King Asgore, who had stepped into the room after opening the door, effectively silencing the conversation.
"Geno, Edge, I need you both with me," He said in a cold tone, "Now."
"What about the-"
"Now."
Without another word, they stood up, Geno leaving the room first, followed by Edge, both of them looking confused on what the King wanted to talk to them about. And then they left the room with a soft click of the door, their footsteps retreating down the hallway hurriedly.
"Never seen the King look so..." Sci carried on, trying to find the right word.
"Agervated? Annoyed? Mad?" Dream asked.
"Cold would be more of a better word to explain it," Sci said.
"Are we going to tell the King what happened in the library?" Dream asked him.
"I'd rather not," Sci said, "We can just go look for the book, try to fi-"
"Guys!" Blue said, opening the door as he interrupted Sci's sentence.
"Will people stop bursting in here and interrupting me!" Sci yelled, throwing his hands into the air.
"It's important though!" Blue said.
"Like that time you found a coloring book you really liked?" Dream asked.
"Well, that was important, but-"
"And like that time your action figure's hair turned blue?" Sci asked, "See, I can interrupt people too!"
"But guys, it's really important!" Blue said, "Ink and Cross aren't in his room like they said they would be!"
"What do you mean?" Sci asked.
"Their just... Not there! A window is open, but it's just empty!" Blue said,"I don't know if they left without telling us, but Ink did say he had that feeling this morning, I'm really concerned. There's even a dropped bowl of batter on the floor, and that's wasting food!"
"Yeah, Ink hates doing that," Dream said, "We should probably go look for him in the castle."
If you are confused on how Horror and Nightmare had missed Ink swapping the book with a books of Lust's, here's what happened.
As soon as Horror had saw Sans grab the book, both him and Nightmare had panicked and climbed out of their hiding spot, to hide behind a different shelf whike watching the table. It was more risky, but they did it anyways, just to see Dream skim over the front page and tell Ink to go to the castle with it. After Ink had run off, they didn't stay, they climbed out a nearby window to follow Ink back to the castle in the shadows, and Ink was so focused on hurrying to the castle to pay attention to them, and they were so busy following Ink to notice that Ink had the wrong book. So, when he got to the castle, he went to the magic duplicater, only to find this book didn't have anything about vampires.
Nightmare and Horror had to go a different route then he did, since they were vampires and didn't have access to the castle, so,they look the long way. Everyone else, shortly after Ink left, decided to leave too, and got there to find out they had the wrong book. Dream left the castle, and Ink went to his room to think on what went wrong while Cross offered to make him some normal, non-sugary food, which Ink accepted. By then Nightmare and Horror had made it to Ink's room, so they missed the whole realization thing, so they still thought Ink had the right book. Basically how that all played out.
Whew, took a bit to write.
