Girl Talk? Meet Boy Talk

WALKER'S POV

"So, what was it you wanted to talk about? Cause you've been acting weird, Y/N's been acting weird, and I'm, like, 90% sure this is about her."

I caught the tennis ball Lucas threw at me square in my hand.

"You didn't even try this time," he complained.

"Janet's been chucking stuff at me for years. I could catch that ball with my pretty eyes closed," I told him, throwing the ball back at him.

Lucas fumbled, his hands in the air ready to catch it; the ball sailed over his head, and in a failed attempt to catch it, the poor boy leaned back too far and the chair tumbled backwards, taking him with it.

"You good?" I called.

Lucas rubbed the back of his head where he'd hit it and gave a sheepish thumbs-up.

"So, why did you text me 'I need your help now, my head is on fire' in all caps? Cause you had me thinking you burned your pretty blond locks off."

"It was supposed to be a metaphor," Lucas grumbled, righting the chair. I kicked my legs and sat up. "So, your brain is burning to a crisp. Why is that?"

He showed me his phone.

"Oh." I'm known for my poetic responses like that.

"Yeah." Lucas slipped his phone into his pocket. I almost kicked him right out of the house when he took off his coat to reveal a baby blue hoodie. What maniac wore a hoodie under his winter coat, I had no idea.

"So... my therapist, the very one that Y/N found for me, says I like Y/N," Lucas said, like I couldn't read.

"Oh, I think it's more than that," I grinned. I'd been waiting for this moment my entire life. "I think you're in love with her."

"But I don't!" He argued. "I don't like Y/N. She's just a-"

"I swear to God if you say she's just a friend, I will dropkick you out the window," I warned him. I was not about to take any Adrien Agreste garbage from Lucas. Not after being called one my whole life.

"But that's what she is," Lucas grumbled. "I don't feel that way towards her."

"Okay then, romance novel, how do you feel towards Y/N?" I questioned. I was supposed to be the blind one, but Lucas made me rethink every single time I had ever been friends with a girl.

"Well... I really like hanging out with her," he said. "She gives me this amazing feeling no one else does. Like when we were watching Minecraft playthroughs, and my hand touched hers..."

He froze. I grinned.

"You like Y/N," I told him. "A lot, Lucas. I can see it in your face. The way you talk about her. You're so in love with her it's almost ridiculous."

"But..." He blinked and looked at me. "I just got out of a relationship."

"One that you were already doubting way before you even started it," I countered. "Come on, Lucas! Be so for real." Poetic.

He groaned. "Great. Now what do I do? She's avoiding me because of girl code or something. She probably hates me."

"Y/N? She could never," I scoffed, leaning back against my bed and resting my head on the pillow.

He sat back down on the desk chair, looking dazed. I counted to twenty-three before he spoke again. "So... how do I fix this? Y/N and Fiona are both avoiding me, so there's no way I can talk to either of them to try and get to Y/N."

"Jacqueline?" I offered.

"She scares me," he pouted.

"Theone?"

"Who?"

"Yeah, I have no clue either. Mitchell mentioned her once or twice in bad taste, and I think she's friends with Y/N," I shrugged.

Lucas groaned and buried his face in his hair. "This is a disaster. I need to talk to Y/N before someone else-"

"Someone else?"

"Have you met Y/N? There's going to be someone else," Lucas grumbled. Jealous Lucas I could definitely deal with.

"Listen, blondie. You said you need to talk to Y/N. So talk to Y/N. You know where she sits and who she hangs out with. If anyone can get Y/N to talk with them, it's you," I deadpanned, a little sick of him feeling sorry for himself. But only a little.

Lucas looked up. "Okay. I'll do it."

I blinked. "Really?"

"Yeah. I'll talk to Y/N. I'll tell her I like her and just hope for the best, I guess," Lucas's voice sounded hopeful. "It'll work, right?"

"Probably," I muttered, not wanting to give him too much hope.

He was in a much better mood after that. He even agreed to play Mario Kart with me, even though he'd said no the thirty times I'd asked before that little conversation. He was positively bouncing as he put on his coat and shoes at the door, although he'd been grumbling about the cold in his little Lucas way when he'd first arrived.

I definitely felt better knowing I'd helped. It sort of hurt to see him and Y/N apart, the glances they gave each other without ever realizing they even looked. I missed the chemistry of my second favorite boy-girl duo (the first being Mitchelline), the meaningful interactions Y/N would tell Jacqueline about when she thought Mitchell and I weren't listening, and mostly the complete and infinite trust they had in each other.

I really hoped that it went well with Y/N.
