Emails
I paced around my room, once, twice, three times. I was waiting on the text from Fiona so she would come pick me up. And then, my phone dinged and there it was. The text message I'd been waiting for for the past twenty minutes.
I grinned, bolting down from my room to the front door and pulling my sneakers on. Without even saying goodbye to my mom, I tore out of the house and to the black SUV in front of it.
The window rolled down and I was greeted with my best friend's smiling face. "Get in," she said. "Quick! Delphine's already on her way there!"
I smiled back, opening the door and sliding in next to Fiona. If Delphine was on her way from her house to the mall already, our chances of getting there first and winning our bet were on the line.
We talked about what we'd been doing for the summer. Normally, during the school year, Fiona and I saw each other every single day, even after school, but she had a really busy schedule this summer, so we couldn't really meet a lot, and video calls just weren't the same.
"By the way, girls, the emails should be coming in today," Fiona's mom said as we started to get close to the mall. "Apparently they're being sent all at once, so you and your friends should get them at the same time."
We knew exactly what she meant by the emails; she was talking about the emails that informed us that we were being invited to return to Fangirl School for Sea of Monsters year. The emails would also include our exam grades from last year, which determined whether we would move on or not. They also had to make sure we'd read the book, which was why they had a link to a little quiz to confirm that we'd read it. Once they got the quiz results, including the time we took answering each question and such, they'd send another email confirming that we were allowed to come back in September.
Once Fiona was done telling me about her summer and I was done telling her about mine, I decided to text Delphine to see if she'd arrived at the mall yet. We were meeting all our friends there; we wanted to be together when the emails came.
Fiona and I ended up getting there first. Before even saying hi, Delphine handed each of us a dollar when she arrived.
We talked a little until the rest came; first Brandon, Fiona's formerly-online friend (they met when they both started at Fangirl School), then Lucas, Delphine's friend-crush, Xavier, and finally the twins Giovanni and Jeveskia.
"I finally read the book," Giovanni said proudly before he'd even said hello. He was a little dim, but really good at chess.
"About time, too," Jeveskia said, rolling her eyes as she came to hug us girls.
"What do you guys think Antonio and Janet have been up to?" Xavier asked after the twins had sat down.
"Probably plotting their revenge," Delphine said jokingly. We'd long since forgiven her for the little catastrophe she'd gotten us in.
"I heard some new kid is joining our year," Lucas said. His mom was the school counselor, so it was no surprise that he knew this.
"I thought that wasn't allowed," Jeveskia said.
"You think it's Eloise transferring to America?" (My apologies if you live somewhere else, but this is set in LA.)
"No," Lucas said. "It's an American. My mom said her name was Freya or something."
"What?!" Fiona gasped. "My twin sister's name is Freya!"
"That's probably why they're letting her into our year," Giovanni concluded. "They think you'll help her. Or they feel awkward putting her in the lower year, they're mostly eleven-year-olds."
"Of course, they can't put Fiona Albert's sister in the lower year! You came top last year," Lucas told Fiona.
"But I don't want-" Fiona began, but she was interrupted by everyone's phones dinging. Either everyone was getting a text at the same time, or...
"On three?" I said.
"On three," they all agreed.
"3...2...1!" I opened the notification.
Dear Ms. L/N,
We hope you've had a great summer, fangirl! You passed all your exams, great job! Just take this little test to confirm you've read Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters, and you'll officially be welcomed back for another year at Fangirl School! Good luck!
"This is it, peeps," I said. "Anyone expelled? Show of hands."
We all looked around. No one raised their hands.
"Test time," Fiona said. "If you can't remember something, ask, okay?"
We all nodded.
The quiz was really easy. I passed with full marks.
"Still in?" Delphine said. "Hand up if you're still in."
Everyone raised their hands. Once we'd all registered this, we cheered. High-fives and hugs were passed around the table. We were about to get up to get some celebratory ice cream, but then our phones dinged again.
Holding our breaths, we opened our emails again.
Congratulations! You've been accepted into Fangirl School.
Please note that the Hunger Games branch will be hosting this year's Get-Into-The-Book.
The Get-Into-The-Book event is a year-round event that takes place from second year and above. One boy and one girl from second year up to fourth year will be selected from the Percy Jackson Fandom to participate in a Hunger Games.
Please note this won't actually take your life. If you are "killed," you will simply regenerate in a safe point, healthy as ever. May The Odds Be Ever in Your Favor!
"What the hell does that mean?" Delphine said.
"It means," Fiona began, and I braced myself for another big explanation from my amazing know-it-all best friend, "that they're going to reenact a Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a fight to the death, and I'm assuming every year is like a district. Eight from the Percy Jackson Fandom for four districts, I'm assuming another eight from the Harry Potter Fandom, and eight from The Hunger Games Fandom. We're about 300 kids in our year, but there are definitely more boys than girls, so for example Y/N is more likely to be picked than Brandon. Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games obviously because we're like the Big Three of Fandoms. I suppose we're the Poseidon, Harry Potter is Zeus since it's the biggest, and Hunger Games is Hades since it's the smallest out of the three, I think. For the Harry Potter guys I suppose we'd be the Golden Trio or something of fandoms, and I guess we'd be Ron Weasley." She stopped to catch a breath.
"I wanna get picked!" Was the first thing that came out of someone's mouth, and that someone was Delphine's.
"No you don't," Fiona snapped. "It's scary. You might be in that arena for weeks. You're not allowed to go home. They only let you leave if you're in a deadly condition. You won't be able to see us for a long time. The person's known friends are allowed to leave classes to come watch, but you won't be able to see them. Really, the only difference between this and the real Hunger Games is you don't die," she added with disgust.
"What do you think it'd be like if we hosted it?" Brandon cut in as Delphine opened her mouth to argue.
"I suppose it'd be a game of Capture the Flag," Fiona said.
"No way!" I said. "The dudes from Harry Potter would do something like, what do they call it? The Triwizard Tournament. In this case the Trifandom Tournament. We can't just do capture the flag! I think we'd send three people from the three fandoms on a quest together. We'd confuse each other with references," I added with a grin.
"You're right," Lucas said with a smile.
We couldn't stop talking about the Get-Into-The-Book events for the rest of the day. I was still thinking about them when I went to bed that night.
THAT'S RIGHT BITCHES
FANGIRL SCHOOL IS BACK
God I missed this
