Alliances and Betrayals

(The chapter title feels so cool lmao)

JACQUELINE POV

Walker, Mitchell and I were right outside the Career's tent. We could hear arguing inside. We were trying to work out a plan to get Y/N back when a silver parachute floated into my lap.

"Who's that from?" Mitchell asked. I checked the tag.

"It's from Celine!"

Mitchell's face broke into a grin. Celine was my girl best friend. Mitchell and Celine didn't get along all that well, but they put up with each other because I didn't want to lose either of them.

"Who's Celine?" Walker asked as I tore open the bag, Mitchell watching eagerly.

"Only my best friend since first grade," I told him.

"I've known you longer," Mitchell pouted.

I didn't answer. I ripped open the bag and saw a bow. Mitchell laughed.

"Maybe I do know you better. Anyone who knows Jacqueline knows she has a terrible aim."

"Oh, shut up. You can have that," I handed it to Mitchell.

"No arrows?"

"None."

Suddenly, there was a scream from inside the tent. Mitchell and I jumped, but Walker's expression told us that wasn't Y/N's voice. I recognized the voice from the interviews... the District 2 girl...

I could hear sobbing, then another shout. A boy this time.

Walker couldn't seem to wait any longer; he charged into the tent. I wanted to call out to him, but we might get caught if I did, so Mitchell and I had to suck it up and follow him.

We walked in on one of the strangest scenes I had ever seen. Including the ones from the Peter Johnson movies.

YOUR POV

I'd been with the Careers for two days. Then on the third day I heard the District 1 boy and the District 2 girl arguing.

"We have to let her go, Dave! This is disgusting!"

"No way! They're gonna come for her any minute now."

"Do you have morals? This is absurd! No wonder you didn't let me come!"

As they fought on, the argument got more heated. Like Nico and Bianca, Amandine used her hands a lot. Dave was making some really weird motions with his hands, but I didn't understand them until it was too late.

There was a blood-curdling scream, and the next thing I knew Amandine was on the floor, her eyes wide, a knife through her stomach.

Dave had eliminated her.

(No, I'm not going to pull an Uncle Rick)

Before Dave could process it, another knife sprouted from Dave's back. He fell to his knees. Standing behind him was Amandine's boyfriend. Two cannons sounded.

Hayden dropped to his knees and sobbed. Personally, I thought that was slightly dramatic, but love is love, I guess. If it was my lover, I'd probably do the same.

It hit me that the two were my age. Twelve. How the relationship worked while they were so young I have no idea, but I had a feeling they were going to get married one day. (First person to share this story with a friend and comment done gets to know an Easter Egg about these two)

Walker and the pair representing 11 burst into the tent, weapons out, seemingly expecting a fight.

Instead, they saw me, tied at the back of the tent, Dave's dead body, and Hayden sobbing over the dead form of his girlfriend.

The District 4 duo would be there any second.

"Kill me," Hayden said. "Please. I can't continue playing if it isn't with her."

Hesitantly, the boy from 11 picked an arrow off the ground, nocked it in his bow, and shot Hayden.

I could've sworn I heard him say a quiet "thank you" as three cannons sounded. The pair from 4 were the last Careers left.

Walker cut me free and we ran out just before the two representing District 4 rushed in. All I can say is they were shocked. The boy, Zacharias, began to panic. He accused Lilac, who stomped out of the tent in frustration and went off to the woods.

Zacharias began scavenge the tent for loot. We waited for him to leave while I ate as if I had never seen food before. After he was gone, Walker, the duo from 11, who introduced themselves as Mitchell and Jacqueline, and I went into the tent.

I found a sword and Mitchell found some food, but that was it. We hurried back to the forest, trying to figure out what to do.

(A/N: Seriously, y'all have no idea how long this took to come up with. I needed to eliminate all the Careers and like all my other genius ideas, I got this one while brushing my teeth. [No, seriously, I can't name one idea I've had that hasn't come to me while brushing my teeth.])

District 8 Boy POV

"Walt!" My District partner, Nora, hissed. "Someone's coming!"

"I can tell!" I hissed back.

This was so messed up. Nora and I were eleven. I just wanted to go to a new school and be myself, but noo. Of course, being the Harry Potter fandom, the young ones had to participate, too. We had to make our fandom proud. So far, it seemed to be working. We were two of the only six remaining Harry Potter kids. Out of ten kids, four were already done. How embarrassing.

I had met Nora on the bus. What were the odds? Low. Really low. I thought it was ridiculous. My brother says I think everything is ridiculous.

Nora was really sweet, though. If not for her, we may have not taken out the Percy Jackson fourteen-year-old girl. She was really nice to her, convinced her we were all friends, and I stabbed her in the back. Both literally and metaphorically. Then I found out Nora's intention was for us to actually be friends with her. Oh well.

Nora had predicted correctly. Two Percy Jackson kids stepped out of a nearby bush. The boy raised his sword, but Nora said, "Wait! We can make an alliance!"

"You're eleven," the boy said.

"We took out a fourteen-year-old," I added. I was afraid it was the wrong thing to say, but they seemed impressed.

"Which one?"

"The fourteen-year-old girl from your fandom."

The boy stuck out his hand. "I'm Linus."

I took it and shook it. "Walt." I tried to sound professional like I always did.

"My name's Diala," the girl said, introducing herself to Nora.

"So nice to meet you! I'm Nora," Nora responded, beaming at Diala.

The alliance started there.

(A/N: This seems a tad useless but it's actually really important later on)

YOUR POV

A blood-curdling scream cut through the air.

It was a girl.

I sat up in a hurry, waking up from my nap. Walker was already on his feet. Jacqueline was pulling Mitchell, who was half-asleep, to his feet.

We ran towards the direction of the scream.

A bunch of birds were attacking Lilac, the District 4 girl. Percy Jackson kids recognized them as the Stymphalian birds.

I wasn't too sure how they'd made these things, and quite frankly (hehe frankly) I didn't want to find out.

Walker looked like he wanted to help Lilac, but didn't. We averted our eyes eventually, because the birds had started taking off little bits of her skin. Thirty seconds after I'd looked away there was a cannon, and Lilac's screams subsided.

I realized right then and there that almost everyone from the Hunger Games fandom was out on the second day. Only Lindsey remained.

Walker, Mitchell, Jacqueline and I sat in a circle as we tried to figure out our next move.

"Let's count up the rest first," Mitchell suggested.

"Let's see. We have the girl from One," Jacqueline said.

"Lindsey," I provided.

"The boy from four and the girl from five," Walker added.

"Zacharias and Zahra."

"And he boy from six, the two from eight and nine," Mitchell concluded.

"Carl, Walt, Nora, Linus, and Diala."

"Great. That's how many people?" Jacqueline asked.

Walker counted on his fingers quickly. "Eight. Eight people and us."

"So half of us are gone and it's only day two," Mitchell summed up. Jacqueline nodded.

"Great. Now what?" Mitchell asked.

"I think-" Walker began, but four parachutes dropped into our laps, two into mine and one into Walker's.

I tore the first package open. It was from Fiona, of course. It had a copy of the Lightning Thief in it and- I held back a laugh, because I was positive this had been Delphine's idea- a blue plastic hairbrush. Walker, Mitchell, and Jacqueline took one look at the thing and burst out laughing, and I joined them. I'd forgotten that Mitchell and Jacqueline were also Percy Jackson fans.

Once I'd wiped away the tears of laughter, I noticed a note attached to the parachute, in Fiona's neat handwriting: "Just in case you need to hit a Titan Lord in the eye. Love, Shrek's wife."

"Shrek's wife?" Mitchell asked.

"Inside joke," I said. Delphine had come up with it.

We were at the mall. It was May, which was summer break, and we were passing a bookstore. We decided to go in, being Fangirl School students, and found a Shrek book. Delphine pointed to it and said, "Look, Fiona, it's your husband!" and she'd been calling her Shrek's Wife ever since.

I opened the second package. It was from Lucas. The little thing looked like a pad. Jacqueline seemed to think along the same lines, but then I turned it over. It read, FOLDABLE TENT.

"Oh, Lucas..." I whispered. I didn't know how much that thing would've cost.

"Let's not use it yet," Jacqueline said. "We don't want to attract attention. This thing must work like the Hunters' tents."

"Probably limited to Percy Jackson fans," Mitchell added.

Walker took the thing, examining it. He handed it back to me. "Jacqueline's right. We shouldn't use it yet."

I stored it carefully in my backpack.

(Time skip)

They attacked us on Mitchell's shift.

His scream woke us up. By the time those glorious two seconds of not remembering anything had passed, the cannons had already sounded.

Jacqueline was furious. She grabbed her spear and charged the four enemies.

Walker and I jumped in to help. I fought off both the eleven-year-olds (there's no way I was that short when I was in my first year, right?) while Walker took on the fifteen-year-old boy. Jacqueline fought the fifrteen-year-old girl who had shot Mitchell with her bow.

The scream that came from my right made me kick the kids aside. It was Walker's scream.

The fifteen-year-old boy, Linus, had cut his arm. The gash was almost too horrible to look at.

With a loud cry, Jacqueline thrust her spear into the fifteen-year-old girl's head. But then the eleven year old boy stabbed her in the stomach. Two cannons. Jacqueline and Diala. But not Walker.

The others began to retreat. If it wasn't for Walker, I would've followed them. But I had to help him. But I had nothing to help him with. One thing I knew from fanfictions is if he passed out, he was gone. He couldn't be gone.

I looked up desperately, and my wish was granted. There were two silver parachutes floating down. I snatched them out of the air. One was addressed to Walker, and the other to me. Both were medkits.

I wrapped the gash as best as I could. I didn't know if there was something else I was supposed to do, but all I knew was I couldn't let him bleed out.

Still no cannons. The bodies of Mitchell, Jacqueline, and Diala had disappeared. I could feel Walker's ragged breathing.

"You'll be okay," I said, slightly panicking. I remembered what Lucas had said about pulling the tech thing that kept us alive out of our heads. Walker seemed to be in so much pain... I could have him handed over to the medics... but I didn't know if I'd be able to survive without him.

A cannon. I panicked, but I could still feel Walker's pulse. It couldn't have been him. Maybe it was Linus or Zacharias or anyone else. Not Walker.

(Time skip because why not)

As soon as I'd found manual on healing stuff, I had Walker up on his feet in no time. It was the two of us again.

"Who's left?" he asked.

"Lindsey. Zacharias. Zahra. Carl. Walt and Nora. Linus. And us."

He looked around. "Jacqueline's gone?"

I nodded.

"Dam," he said, seemingly trying to lighten the mood. "What now?"

"Well... now we use this tent," I said, pulling out the foldable tent Lucas had sent.

Walker and I set up the tent, then put Jacqueline and Diala's stuff inside.

"And now, we wait. I'm not getting in any more battles," I said, sitting down.

"Me neither," Walker said, also sitting down.

ZACHARIAS POV

It was Zahra, I swear.

Zahra's my younger sister. I'd been keeping a lookout for her ever since it started. I knew she would've loved to kill me.

I saw Lilac eating a poisonous berry shortly after two cannons had sounded. I was trying to see if I could take anything that was on her when Zahra came up behind me.

"Well, well, well," she said.

"Go drown in one of those wells, will you?" I snapped back. (Persassy but its a Harry Potter fan)

"Nah."

We stared at each other for a minute, then we attacked.

Zahra was better than I thought. Before I knew it, I had respawned in the sick bay.

The nurse immediately began to treat me. The other nurse was taking care of Lilac. On the laptop that sat on the desk, there was a split-screen thing; one side was a few Harry Potter and Percy Jackson kids talking strategy, and the other side was a blond, brown-eyed girl I didn't know, wearing glasses and a blue dress. She was being interviewed.

"And would you say you were honored by what your friend said?"

"Oh, yeah," said the girl. "I almost cried. Don't believe me, ask my friends."

The interviewer laughed. "Do you think she'll win?"

"Yeah. I believe in her."

I had no idea who they were talking about, but the interviewer bid her goodbye just as a group of teachers came in, looking disappointed.

"Our oldest Harry Potter fandom kids are eliminated," the Harry Potter fandom principal said. "Looks like I owe Helda money after all."

I remembered, very vaguely, reading the name Helda Briarson on the staff last when I'd first applied for Fangirl School four years ago. She was the principal of the Percy Jackson department.

"Owe?" I croaked.

"Yes. You think you kids are the only ones who bet?"

The thought seemed pretty weird to me, so I didn't respond. They checked in on Lilac, then left. They were now interviewing the kids who were eliminated. I caught sight of Hayden and Amandine, their arms around each other. They were discussing their thoughts on the winner with the interviewer, someone I didn't know. Amandine and Hayden seemed to disagree between the Weasley from the Percy Jackson fandom and Zahra.

"I'm thinking something along the lines of that kid Carl," the interviewer put in. "Haven't heard from him since the Games started."

Hayden and Amandine laughed.

(A/N:And that, lovelies, is the return of Fangirl School. I'll try to end it by December 20th so we can have a chapter to react to the first 2 episodes of you know what :))
