Chapter 19 – Valerie’s P.O.V.

“Damn, Valerie. You’re really good,” Zayn commented as I felt my cheeks flush immensely.

“Please no,” I begged, shaking my head in my hands.

“Please no, what?” Liam asked with a slight chuckle.

“Please don’t compliment me,” I said, then sighed as they all gave me confused looks. “I don’t think you want me to scream because One Direction is complimenting me… on singing.”

“And…?” Harry trailed off, quirking a brow at me.

I stared at him with wide eyes, as if it were obvious. “And you guys are fucking perfection and being complimented by you is just surreal.”

I covered my mouth, not meaning to curse, but the boys simply laughed. “I’m already starting to like you, Valerie,” Louis chuckled and I felt my cheeks heat up. The doorbell then rang, and Louis’ grin stretched. “That must be Eleanor.”

My eyes widened. “Eleanor fucking Calder?” I exclaimed, excitement bubbling inside me.

Louis smirked, nodding as he went to the door.

“Holy shit,” I breathed out, raking a hand through my hair. “I need a damn inhaler or something before I go on a cursing rant.”

The boys laughed and then the door opened to reveal the gorgeous model I’ve envied for as long as I can remember. I don’t get why Eleanor gets so much hate. She’s fucking beautiful, and the way Louis was looking at her right now truly screamed admiration. If Larry was real, I’d be okay with that. But if Louis is happy, why the hell would “fans” make him unhappy by sending his girlfriend hate all the time?

            Give the kid a break.

“Hey, babe,” Louis smiled, pecking Eleanor’s lips as she grinned back. I wanted to fangirl so damn bad right now, but I was holding it in… for their sake. “Love, this is Valerie. Valerie, this is Eleanor.”

“Hey,” Eleanor smiled sweetly, the same smile I’ve been thriving to have for the past couple years.

“H-Hi,” I sputtered, but she simply giggled and leaned down to hug me. I instantly hugged her back, but tried not to be freaky. God, she smells good. And holy shit her hair is soft. Deciding I was getting a little creepy, I forced myself to pull away.

“Did Harry finally ask you out?” Eleanor smirked, wiggling her eyebrows but my eyes widened slightly.

I glanced over at Harry who was giving Eleanor the death glare, clearly telling her to shut her mouth. “What?” I asked stupidly, my eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

“Oh, um, nothing,” Eleanor said quickly, watching Harry’s movements for her to shut up. “I was just…” she trailed off, then pursed her lips and bounced on her heels. “Louis, what’s that thing you wanted to do?”

Louis stared at her in confusion, but she was mentally telling him something. Louis’ eyes widened. “Oh, um… of course, that thing… Let me go get dressed and well go to that… thing,” he stammered, then scurried out the room, Eleanor following awkwardly.

“Well, lads, we have a song to finish, remember?” Liam said quickly, standing from the couch.

“Right,” Niall said, nodding. “We’ll, uh, we’ll leave you two alone.”

With that, the boys scurried off and I was left bewildered. How the hell did that sweet moment just turn into something totally awkward? I turned to look at Harry, but he was looking down at the floor, his elbows resting on his knees as he sighed, shaking his head. “There went that idea,” Harry muttered under his breath, raking a hand through his hair.

I stared at him, raising an eyebrow. “What idea? Harry, what’s wrong? You look all depressed.”

Harry sighed, throwing himself back into the couch as he lazily looked over at me. “I was going to ask you out today,” he said quietly, immediately tearing his gaze away right after, gnawing on his bottom lip.

My eyes widened as my heart picked up speed. Yeah, we’ve kissed, but saying that I’m officially dating Harry Styles? What the hell is life? Like, what is my life? It just keeps throwing curveballs at me, but this time… I’m enjoying them.

“R-Really?” I stuttered, my eyes still huge as I stared at him.

He licked his lips, pressing them into a thin line as he raked a hand through his hair before nodded. “Yeah,” he whispered, still looking away from me.

“Holy mother of Jesus,” I mumbled under my breath, heaving a hand through my hair as I tried to process it. I turned back to Harry and noticed he was already watching me nervously. A large and idiotic smile stretched on my lips as I stared at him. “Harry Styles was going to ask me out?” I squealed.

Harry finally cracked a small smile. “You mean you would’ve said yes?” he asked in disbelief.

“Are you serious, Harry? Holy Jesus,” I breathed out, standing from the couch. “As creepy as this sounds, I’ve had dreams of you asking me out, all right? Would I say yes?” I exclaimed as Harry frowned his eyebrows at me. “Actually, no. I wouldn’t say yes…” I trailed off.

Harry’s eyes saddened as he pursed his lips together, slowly nodding as he turned his face away from me.

“I’d say hell yes,” I then said, smiling as Harry’s face picked back up. It brightened instantly as he smirked at me.

“That’s good to hear, but I want to ask you first,” he said, standing from the couch. “I still want to make it special for you.”

My heart fluttered at the sound, but then my eyes widened as Harry got down on one knee, acting like he was about to reach into his pocket.

“I’m just kidding,” Harry chuckled as he stood and I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.

“You know, I would’ve said hell yes to that to,” I told him.

Harry turned to look at me, a smile painted on his lips as his dimple cratered. I smiled back, but then Harry told me to go get dressed because he was taking me somewhere. I didn’t really expect that, but I managed a nod and scurried into his room. I pulled my suitcase onto his bed, taking out a red shirt with some text and a gray cardigan. I wiggled into my skinny jeans, then brushed my hair and (since it was not cooperating) put it into a ponytail. I went out and Harry brushed past me, smirking as he told me it was his turn to get ready.

Moments later he came out with black skinny jeans and a black shirt, but he had a gray zip-up on. He also had an orange beanie, but he pulled the hood over his head. I couldn’t blame him. For once in Tampa, it was a bit chilly out.

He informed the boys we were leaving, and they simply smirked and wiggled their eyebrows. Thus, both of us rolled our eyes with smiles before walking out the door and riding the elevator to the lobby.

“Where are we going?” I asked as we tumbled into his car, then he pulled out the parking garage.

Harry smirked. “I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe we can just grab some lunch and then walk around.”

I furrowed my eyebrows at him. “But didn’t you—“

“I planned something or later,” Harry chuckled. “I just wanted to get out of that hotel room, and since you skipped school for me, you might as well make the most of it, right?” he smirked.

“I guess you’re right,” I giggled, nodding with my words.

The ride consisted of the usual small talk and random giggles. I liked at how easily we got along, and honestly, I was getting a little used to Harry being around. That’s not saying I’m completely oblivious to the fact that he’s Harry Styles, but I am talking more instead of squealing. It’s an improvement.

Harry found a parking space near the park and he got out and opened my door. I smiled at him, then we started walking down the sidewalk. I took my phone out and saw I had a text from Mom.

Mom: So sorry about last night, sweetie. Have a good day at school and I’ll see you when you get home xx

I sighed, staring down at the message until Harry spoke. “She’s apologizing?” he asked and I looked up and smirked at him.

“Being a little nosy?” I chuckled.

Harry rolled his eyes. “Please, I was born to… to read things,” he stammered, making me laugh again.

My laughing subsided and I nodded. “Yeah, she apologized.”

“Are you all right?” he asked, true sincerity in his voice.

I shrugged. “They don’t really fight often, so I guess it kind of freaked me out at how intense it got, ya know?”

Harry nodded. “I’m sure they’ll work things out.”

I sighed, pursing my lips together. “I sure hope so.”
