Work

Today was an unusual day.

At least, that's what Error reckoned. The male skeleton was currently watching in confusion as you zipped around the house, moving quickly, quietly, and clumsily.

He was hiding in the shadows in the corner of your living room, closest to the hallway. It was fairly early in the morning, 4:47 based on the clock above the stove, and was still dark out.

He watched as you ran to and fro, occasionally tripping over items on the floor. You were grabbing briefcases, making breakfast, organizing papers, talking to an unknown device, and folding several different outfits all at once, along with an attempt to clean the floor.

"Hello .     .     .     yes this is y/n .     ! G-good morning, mistress! .     .     . Yes, I do hope your morning is going well, I-I apologize for not asking .     .     .    yes mistress, I made your coffee, I d-didn't forget    .     .     .     y-yes .     . " You spoke into the device, pouring a brown liquid into a cup. Once the liquid had filled the cup, you added something labeled "Creamer" to the brown substance, before covering the cup with a black, plastic lid.

Placing the cup on the counter, you continued talking into the device, still completing other tasks simultaneously. You were moving very quickly, and for quite a long amount of time.  The male skeleton knew you had to be getting tired, especially so early in the morning.

Error leaned forward, trying to get a better look at the device you were speaking into. It was rectangular shaped with round edges, and was around the same width of your palm. It was tall vertically, slightly taller than your hand.

The destroyer knew he had seen this before, everyone he knew had such a device.

Thinking, Error tried to remember its name. What was it called? "Fon?" "F-own?" "Fone?" Something like that.

Error decided not to put too much brainpower into remembering the name. It was too early to begin thinking hard, and it was such a boring matter anyway. He'd much rather watch you do whatever it was that you were doing.

"Y-yes mistress, I-I understand!  . . . N-no, I didn't do the seventy fourth load of laundry, I've j-just been really busy for the p-past few weeks .     .     .     N-no, I'm not making excuses!!   .   .   . Y-yes, I'm terribly sorry, I'll do it as soon as I arrive!!" You spoke into the device, fear in your voice.

Error tilted his head, confusion still clouding his mind. But before he could do anything about it, a loud, shrill voice blared, originating from the small piece of technology.

The male skeleton tensed up, his 'error' signs multiplying. Three new signs appeared over his body, a few obstructing his view. It took a moment to calm down, but by steadying his breathing, the destroyer was able to return to his original serene state of mind.

Watching your reaction, Error noticed your obvious flinch. It was to no surprise, the destroyer himself was startled by the volume of the voice, but what worried him was how close you were to the device.

It became obvious that the noise came from another creature, not the device itself. The frequency was far too shrill and annoying to come from any piece of technology he knew.

Error returned his attention to you, only to find that you were in obvious distress. An uneasy smile had made its way onto your face, and your body quivered as you shakily spoke into the device, only to be yelled at once more.

For some reason, this caused a strong feeling of anger to wash over the  glitch ridden skeleton. He found himself trying to figure out the best way to learn the home address of whoever was on the other end of the device, and was hoping you would allow him to pay that person a . . . visit, of sorts.

A few violent thoughts entered his skull, causing a dark grin to cross the destroyer's face. His eyesockets began to glow dimly, bringing out the colors of his eyelights. Like a pair of multicolored lighthouses, fighting solo against a blood red sea.

" Y-yes, I'll hang up, no-now. . . . I apologize for the inconvenience I caused . ! . . . Yes . . . Ha-have a nice day, goodbye. " You forced out, pressing a red button on the device.

The voice stopped talking, though the rage the male felt continued to grow. It grew bigger and bigger, his mindset twisting, slowly but surely. He became  so consumed in his thoughts that he only came back to reality once you had tripped and fallen.

.          .           .

You winced, rubbing your head. You had slipped on the wooden floor as a result of running quickly whilst wearing long socks, landing you right on your back. You were going to stuff some papers in one of your suitcases, but you accidentally let them all go when you fell, launching them skyward.

"oH gOd, wHAt hApPEneD?!" A distorted voice asked, sounding like the speaker was coming closer.

Turning in the direction of where said voice originated, you were met with the sight of a distressed Error, who was quickly wheeling in your direction.

He stopped beside you, checking your head for injuries. He was in an obvious state of unease, for certain. But there was something about the way he was acting that drew forth another possible conclusion . . . was he concerned?

Regardless, you shook your head, hoping the pain would dissipate faster if you did so.

"Ah, sorry, did I wake you up?" You asked, knowing fully that 4 in the morning is not a normal time to wake up, at least, without having a reason. If he was up so early, there must have been a reason.

"nO, I wOKe uP oN mY oWN, bUt aRe yOu oKay?" He asked, still checking your head.

At this point, concern was as evident as the glitches on his body; in plain sight. Knowing that he was concerned for your wellbeing filled you with joy. Was it possible that he cared about you?

"I-i mEaN, iT's nOt lIkE I cARe oR aNyTHiNG . !" He muttered, false spite in his voice. You smiled, adjusting your mask, wanting to be certain that it would hide your blushing face.

"I'm sure you don't, but are you sure I didn't wake you up? If I did, I can be quieter. Or, at least, I can try!" You smiled, beginning to collect your papers.

Error nodded, assisting you in picking up the sheets you had dropped, slight confusion in his pinpricks.

"YeAh, yOu diDn'T wAke mE uP. LiKe I sAid, I woKe oN mY oWN. bUt wHY aRe yOu uP?" He asked, shifting his gaze to you.

"Hmm? Oh, I have to go to work today.  I haven't been in for a while, and I also need to get paid. " You spoke stacking the papers neatly. Error handed you the last of them, which you combined and put in a suitcase.

"I mean, I need to pay for the house and everything in it, don't I?" You sighed, trying to remain positive about the torture that lay ahead of you.

"I gUeSs. dO yOu nOt hAvE mUcH moNey? ARe yOu pOoR?" He asked, truly out of wonder.

You giggled, shaking your head.

"No, I'm not poor. Not at all. I earn . . . enough. " You say, trying to find the right words to put in your sentence. You wanted to remain humble, though you knew the truth was that you were rich. Plain and simple.

"sO yoU eArn A mOdErAtE aMOunT Of mOnEy?" He asks, revising his question.

"Err, not exactly. I make more than that, but I still need to go to work. I need to put food on the table somehow. " You smile.

Error gasps.

"aRe wE nOt gOiNg tO hAvE fOoD iF yOu dOn'T?" He asks, looking surprised and fearful at the same time.

"No! There's always going to be a meal on the table, don't worry about that! I'll make sure of it, okay?" You asked, trying to reassure the male.

Your reassurance seemed to work, drawing a nod from him, along with a relieved sigh.

You sat in silence for a short while, as you simply enjoyed his company. It was calming, at first, but slowly turned awkward.

You hid in your oversized cardigan and the destroyer rubbed the back of his skull. The silence was becoming more and more unpleasant.

You closed your eyes in attempt to block out the unintentional tention, though it didn't do much. Error glanced around the room, until his eyelights accidentally landed on you.

Soon enough, he found himself focused on you, finding it very hard to look away. He quietly struggled to avert his his attention, only to fail in the end.

He slowly shifted his attention downward, now looking at your hand.  It was close enough to touch, should he reach for it.

The male clenched his fists, gathering his courage. Shakily inhaling, the destroyer unclenched his hands, slowly moving one above yours.

His soul began to race and he began to sweat as he looked at how close he was. How close he was to physical contact, one of his greatest fears.

Why did he want to do this in the first place?

His body tensed up and his glitches multiplied as he struggled to simply move his hand down. His fingers twitched as he was filled with anxiety on what he thought was yet to come.

After a few seconds, Error sighed, curling his fingers into a fist before retracting his hand. He felt defeated, as he was not even able to complete such a simple and meaningless task.

He didn't even know why he wanted to hold your hand.

You looked up upon hearing his sigh of disappointment. Slight confusion washed over you, as expected. From what Error could tell, you were oblivious as to what had just happened.

"Did I do something wrong?" You asked, your hidden smile faltering.

Error closed his eyesockets and shook his skull, indicating that you weren't in the wrong.

"nO, iT's nOt yOU, I jUsT . . . NEvERmiNd." He trailed off, turning to the side.

"What? Did you want something?" You asked, tilting your head. You hoped that he would reveal what was bothering him, but your hopes would be let down as he shook his skull yet again.

Waving his hand dismissively, the male skeleton rolled his eyelights, slight irritation visible.

" I -  nO, I dIdn'T wAnT aNyThInG. ShUT uP. ! d-d-DoN't yOu nEeD tO gO tO wORk oR sOmEthInG?" He huffed, his cheekbones turning blue.

"O-oh! Yeah, I gotta go! Thanks for reminding me!" You thanked, standing up abruptly.

"A-afer all, I-i don't want to b-be late!" You muttered, fear entering your voice. You quickly grabbed all your suitcases, rushing to the front door.

You grabbed the house keys off the hook beside the door, stuffing them in your pockets.

"U-uH, dO yOu NeEd hElP wiTh ThOSe?" Error asked, eyeing the load you were carrying.

You shook your head, being accustomed to the quantity of suitcases and other workspace appliances. Quickly, you explained to him what to do while you were gone.

"Okay, I made enough food for you to last the whole day, they're all plated and ready to eat. They're in the three silver platters on the counter, just make sure to keep it covered with the cloche hats until you eat it. Water bottles are in the fridge, use those instead of pouring water into a glass, you'll probably break it. Some chocolate is also in the fridge, feel free to eat as much as you'd like. Aaaaand, you know where the bathroom is. You can do pretty much whatever you want, except for using technology. I haven't taught you to use it yet, and I don't want you to accidentally break it. That's pretty much all you need to know." You spoke, opening the door.

Error nodded, taking in all the information you had just thrown at him. You sighed, stopping in the doorframe, looking back at the skeleton.

"Are you gonna be alright without me? I don't know how you'll act on your own, and I don't want you to hurt yourself. Will you be okay?" You asked, fearing for the male.

He turned blue, though you didn't know why. He nodded and smiled, making your heart race faster than it was.

"i'Ll bE fInE! I aM vErY iNdePeNdEnt, i'M nOt a cHilD." The skeleton grinned.

You nodded, feeling slightly more reassured.

"Okay . . . I'm gonna leave now, be safe." You smiled, walking outside.

"And whatever you do, don't leave the house!" You called, closing the door and locking it.

Error watched you run off, taking note of where you went. Though it was still dark out, he could tell where you were.

Sighing, Error shook his skull, feeling slight guilt for what he was about to do.

"SoRRy y/N, bUt i dOn'T tHiNk I'Ll bE sTayInG iNdOoRs."

Haha, I'm just making excuses, aren't I? Alright, I'll stop wasting time writing this meaningless nonsense, I'll start writing another chapter.

Anyways, I hope y'all liked this chapter, and I promise I'll update again this week to make it up to you! :D  You're amazing, don't forget it! <3
