Doctor New

I. Am. So. Sick. Of. This. Shit.

Today, I was very excited to see that a new Doctor Who teaser had been dropped, mostly likely due to SDCC. I eagerly watched it, and was not disappointed, but wished I had been able to see more, as the run time was less than a minute. Overall, I was satisfied.

For those of you that haven't seen it, I've attached the teaser above.

A quick disclaimer, I originally hated the idea of a female doctor. When I found out Jodie Whittaker was cast as the new doctor, I was so angry that my favourite tv show had been so greatly disturbed, purely to meet a social agenda. However, I am a big researcher, and as angry as I was, I wanted to know who exactly Jodie Whittaker was, and what she was like.

And she was so sweet! I watched tv spots, interviews, read countless articles and honestly wasted hours reading up on her, and I was relieved to find that she seemed like a really lovely person, and a great actress. David Tennant had worked with her in the past for a different show, and he seemed to have complete confidence in her.

Back to the present.

I saw this teaser trailer through Instagram, and because I'm basic fangirl trash, I follow a lot of fan accounts. Needless to say, this teaser was the subject of a lot of attention.

And holy guacamole, you'd like someone had taken every pre-existing Doctor, murdered them, burnt every copy of their episodes and prevented another episode from ever being made.

I get that some people are upset about the fact that there is a female doctor. Personally, I don't mind, that there is a female doctor. I think the change in dynamic could be really interesting, and could spark some pretty entertaining jokes. But, I won't deny that one mostly exists to meet a social agenda. However, whatever the motive, I think she looks fairly interesting, and that she should at least be given a fair test run.

But what gets me riled up is when people online, who have seen only minimal tv spots, a new sonic and her costume, are grabbing their pitchforks to burn her at the stake. People will always disagree on whether or not a doctor is good. Some people have Matt Smith, but I love him. Some people think Capaldi is too old, but I found it refreshing. There is going to be a difference of opinion.

People seem to have made this judgment prior to the first episode, with next to no actual footage, and no opportunity to grow and develop the character. It's irrational, and frankly, makes me want to disregard their opinion entirely. How can you make a judgement that harsh on a character that hasn't had a chance to be explored?

I don't know, I just wanted to share this with you all. Do any of you feel the same? I feel like Whovians used to have this really supportive and easygoing space, which has now been consumed by everyone arguing and hating on the show.

Goodbye for now.
