Just a Little Joke - Daryl/Jesus

Daryl woke up that morning as usual, brushed his teeth, dressed in something suitable for the weather and then headed to make breakfast for his boyfriend who was still fast asleep.

He smiled while humming lowly to himself. Pancakes and eggs worked well enough they didn't have any bacon or he would have made some of that as well.

Daryl set out a glass of orange juice and set up the plates before heading into their bedroom. "Baby.. baby wake up."

Paul's eyes opened slowly. "What time is it?"

"Breakfast time." Daryl replied dragging his drowsy lover out of bed. "Come on. I made pancakes and eggs."

Paul nodded and slowly got up following him towards the kitchen, the smell was wonderful. He smiled thanking Daryl as he layered his pancakes with a healthy serving of maple syrup.

Daryl ate and thought nothing of the day.

"So you're ready when I get dressed right?"

Daryl looked up narrowing his eyes. "What?"

"Lunch with Rick and Shane." Jesus replied cocking his head. "Remember?"

"No." Daryl replied flatly. "You're kidding."

"No I'm not." Jesus snickered.

"Liar, I would remember lunch with them."

"I am not lying. Call them."

"I will not." Daryl grunted. "You've got to be joking me."

"I'm being serious." Jesus smiled. "Darling it's at Alexandria Cafe at noon. I called the reservation in."

Daryl furrowed his brow. "No. That's impossible."

"How so?" Jesus asked.

"It's a Friday." Daryl replied. "They don't open till late on Fridays. So you're lying."

"How would you know that?"

"I tried to take you to lunch three Fridays ago and hey don't have lunch hours because the family that runs it used Friday mornings for family time as well as Sundays."

Jesus's face scrunched up.

Damn him and knowing things. "So what are you getting at? We don't have lunch do we?"

"I was hoping we'd make it there before you learned the farce."

"Hmm?" Daryl grunted narrowing his eyes.

"April fools honey." Jesus smiled.

"Oh." Daryl realized with a false smirk. He hated April fools jokes his brother was always a dick on that day in particular and even his dad get in on the jokes.

"Sorry.. thought it would be funny.. but I didn't know they were closed so I figured we could have gotten lunch..."

"It's fine." Daryl replied watching Jesus. He would get him back just wasn't sure how.

The day went by as usual Jesus didn't play more pranks and Daryl was busy devising a plan. Around noon Daryl began to cook for them both and remembered a joke Rick said Carl played on them last year.

He smiled and unscrewed the salt lid part way before setting it on the table. While Daryl found it funny he also knew Paul would be sad about losing the meal so he prepared a second one and hid it in the microwave to keep warm.

"Babe!" Daryl called setting the meals down. Jesus came bounding into the room with a smile.

"This looks great thanks." Jesus smiled he took a bite of the mashed potatoes and grabbed the salt. Daryl watched him with a smirk as he turned it over, the lid popped off and salt exploded all over the plate. "Daryl?!" Jesus whined. "You ruined my lunch..."

"April fools hmm babe?"

Jesus smirked slightly. "How am I suppose to eat this now?"

"I'm not all bad." Daryl said with a grin as he stood up and opened the microwave revealing a second plate for him. "I don't tend to like April fools much... my brother was a dick.. but I know you enjoy silly holidays. Thought I'd play too but no harm."

Jesus grinned as he gave Daryl a small peck on the cheek. "Thank you."

"I love you, even when you're a pain in my ass." Daryl grunted kissing his forehead as he slid the plate to him removing the salt covered plate in front of him.

"I love you too." Jesus grinned as they finished their meals. Jesus was thankful Daryl was so willing to give into his antics, and that he wasn't angry.
