Fandom: My Hero Academia

Warning: Angst, no death but angst

I'm testing the waters out with emotional torture, not physical. I've been on a Danganronpa high for a long time but I've just recently decided to dip my toes back into My Hero Academia. All I really got from it is if Kirishima was in the killing game I would be so annoyed with him- moving on-

Oh no, did I get too close or did I almost see what's really on the inside?

Ashley took deep breaths, she kept her head down. Her hand on her forehead as she listened to her younger sister yell at her.

"I can't believe you! You really went ahead and try to apply for another school!? You were going to leave without telling us!"

Anger bubbled up in Kate, anger she never felt before. As she threw the envelope from a art school on the floor.

"Did you not think about me!? Did you not think about our friends!? Were you going to leave in the night or spring this on us at the last minute!?"

The entirety of class 1A watched as the usually happy-go-lucky female cried angry tears. None them knowing the full situation.

No one knew if they should step in, maybe Kate was justified in yelling?

Kirishima bit his tongue as he let the scene continue, everything was okay 5 minutes ago.

It all happened in rapid succession. Bakugo went to go get everyone's mail, Kate went to go see if there is any letters for her and Ashley, Kate saw a letter from a really good Art Academy for Ashley, Ashley walked in to get some milk, and hell broke loose..

And now here everyone was originally going to go get their mail now watching a one-sided argument.

Ashley just sat there and took it, every insult, every discrediting comment, every word questioning her dedication. She flinched every now and then but still took it.

Ashley's hand shielded everyone away from her face.. but the red head swore he saw a tear rolled down her cheek.

All your insecurities, all the dirty laundry. Never made me blink one time.

Flashback

"..."

A younger Ashley stared down at the piece of paper in front of her..

Dear Ashley Valentine,

We regret to inform you that your request to join our Academy has been declined on the account of we saw you already enrolled in U.A.

Keep your chin up high and your paint brush on the canvas, maybe next year.

"..."

She felt her hands shook, but tried to keep herself calm. Clearly this was a mistake, she never attempted to enroll in any other school let alone a Hero Academy.. heroics wasn't exactly her thing.

Kate suddenly appeared behind her looking over her shoulder. As the younger sister read the paper she felt guilt creep up into her conscience.

"Ashley I'm so-"

"It's fine, it's just a mistake"

"No, no it isn't-"

Tears were shed, promises were made.

Kate, behind Ashley's back, signed them both up to join U.A. Kate was scared to go to such a big expensive school by herself. They both were used to their island with no one besides their family.

Ashley cared deeply for her sister, she promised Kate that she would help her became the top hero..

No matter what.

The training was brutal, the emotional strain was a lot, her self-consciousness may have been overbearing, but Ashley put all that aside just so her little sister could achieve her dreams.

Flashback over

Unconditional, unconditionally. I will love you unconditionally.

Ashley thought back, back to the beginning of school. How nervous Kate was.

Remembered how determined she was in making her sister the number one hero.

And she devoted her life to that, she spent her entire school life making sure her sister had the perfect time at U.A. Making sure she was happy, and for the first few months it was.

Ashley befriended Bakugo in hopes he'll go easier on her sister. Ashley set up dates for Kate and Izuku because she knew he was just perfect for her. Ashley would encourage people and force the belief on them that Kate would be number one.

..And if it wasn't for the fact Kirishima had his eyes on her constantly during the sports festival she would have rigged it so Kate got first place...

And here she is receiving her reward.

"How could you!?"

Her reward for putting 110% into a course she didn't feel was right for her or was interested in so she could help her sister.

"Do you not care about anyone but yourself?! To go behind my back like this!"

Her reward for dealing with tough times and pushing her feelings out of the mix to make sure Kate was okay.

"I know you love painting! And you're great at it! But you say all the time you came to U.A. for me so why did you think about leaving?!"

Her reward after so many nights of crying in her room because she was using her quirk in what she saw was the wrong way.

"H-how could you be so selfish!?"

There is no fear now, let go and just be free. I will love you unconditionally.

It seemed like the tension of the room thickened as the words left Kate's mouth.

It seemed like Kate felt it too because she stopped talking and stared at her sister who finally started to look up.

Ashley had this surprised, disbelieving, look on her face.

"Selfish..?"

Everyone froze. Her voice so monotone and bland yet emotional.. tired..

"I'm the one who's selfish..? You're the one who cost me my dream school! If I learned anything from being here is that you don't need me, I came here for you to make sure you were okay!"

Tears pecked at her eyes as Ashley continue to her rant. Feelings and emotions she's buried so deep down erupting.

"...and you were, you are.. I don't need to be here anymore. I've been working 2 to 3 jobs to make spare money and buy canvases to to practice and see if I had another chance to go to the school I actually want to be in."

Her voice croaked out, her throat becoming dry. "I-i never wanted to be a hero.., I ne-never wanted people to rely on me."

Kate regained her composure at Ashley's sudden outburst. "Why didn't you tell me-?"

"I've tried to tell you! I've tried to tell everyone! I did... I didn't know the letter would come in today, I was under the impression it wouldn't come in at all. What should have been a wonderful surprise is instead such a shity moment I don't know what to do anymore..."

Ashley glared at the floor, "I'm getting extreme deja vu, from the day you convinced me to join U.A... my letter on the ground, us crying.."

Their classmates couldn't stay silent for much longer. It was about time one of them tried to diffuse the situation.

Poor Deku..

"I.. I don't know what's going on b-"

Ashley cut him off her words venom "Then shut up"

Midoriya persisted.

"But.. I can assure, you both are wanted here.. we wouldn't be class 1A without the two of you. You guys are genuinely good people and I think you should just bury the hatchet"

Silence ensued for a while, other classmates pitched in a little, agreeing with Midoriya since they had nothing else to agree with.. not wanting to take sides.

Ashley looked up at Kate.. " I can't forgive you, I can't forget this. If you think I'm selfish because over the course of six months you stop talking to me even though you begged me to attend the school with you since you didn't want to be alone, if over the course of six months you were able to get a boyfriend, make best friends, and handle yourself just fine, why am I here?"

Kate was silent, she had to be honest..

"Because, I want- wanted.. you to do the first worth wild thing with your life, okay... I couldn't just leave the island, leave you there and have you hope for something that isn't dependable. Your quirk is amazing! You can save so many people!"

"You know how I feel about that! You wouldn't have left me on the island. You read the letter too.. the only reason I wasn't accepted was because you enrolled me into U.A. without my permission! If it wasn't for you I'd be at the school I wanted to be in! And you would have been here, you would have been just as happy without me!" Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes as Ashley looked at her sister desperately, she was hurt.

Kate held her ground, "What about everyone else!? You made friends too Ashley! People who made an effort to hang out with you!"

"I made them to benefit you! Everything I've done, all the achievements I've conquered, they were all to help you!"

Bakugo, Denki, and Kirishima were left taken aback.. to benefit Kate?

No words were exchanged as Ashley walked over to the envelope. It was unopened. She picked it up off the ground and opened it.

The moment of truth..

Dear Ashley Valentine,

We regret to inform you that your request to join our Academy has been declined. Students of U.A. are unable to join other schools as our number one focus is to keep them studying to become Pro Heroes.

Keep your chin up high and your paint brush on the canvas, maybe next year.

"..."

Ashley ripped the paper and walked out..

Kirishima chased after her.

Come just as you are to me, don't need apologies, know that you are all worthy

It's been days.

It's been long, awkward days.

Class 1A still had their hopes up though were down a peg. Ashley Valentine has dropped out of the hero's course.

And U.A. entirely..

Kirishima and Kaminari were moving packed boxes into a moving van for her while she packed with Bakugo and Todoroki.

Bakugo stared at a framed picture sitting on a desk, it was a picture of him, her, and a couple of their friends when they went to an ice cream parlor..

That was almost a month ago but it felt like a year.

Ashley glanced up at him, "Keep it."

"What-"

"I won't need it where I'm going... I have others too so it's no lost."

He stared at her, it wasn't like he had anything to remember her by. After she moved out the empty room would be filled with another student waiting to participate in the hero's course.

As stubborn as he is he wasn't going pass it up and took at picture out the frame and put it into his pocket.

Todoroki stacked another box on top of others, "That's about it... Kirishima and Kaminari will have to grab the desk mattress by theirselves, we stuffed everything else into a box"

Ashley looked around the bare room she once called her own. Just like when she first moved in.

"Can.. you guys give me a minute.."

They weren't going to protest. The guys walked out without another word giving Ashley some space to breathe.

That is until another person walked in it.

"Hey Kate.."

"Hey.."

Complete and utter silence. Tension thick enough to cut with a knife.

Kate wanted to say goodbye to her sister before she left. She was set on becoming a hero and she didn't know where her sister's life would lend her so for all Kate knew this was the last time they would be seeing each other for a long while..

"Hey um.. I.. I'm sorry for being so.. aggressive"

"No! Don't be! I the one in the wrong! I was the reason you felt this way.. why you couldn't get into that school"

They both looked up each other, eyes locked.

Until Kaminari came back for the other boxes, and the girls made quick goodbyes as Ashley went to help.

Maybe it wouldn't be so long until they came face-to-face again...

And maybe that'll never happen..

As long as they're happy, it doesn't matter.
