If you are getting bored or more importantly, your readers are getting bored, casual breaking of the 4th wall is a good way to spice it up.

It can be subtle like, "for some reason I feel like millions of fan girls are watching me."

Or blunt like, "we did that the last episode/chapter."

But don't go overboard and only use it once in a while.
