It was a few days after the marriage between Remus and Tonks. Things were going really well, better than Remus had expected. Sometimes he still got a shock in the mornings when he woke with Tonks lying next to him. But he was happy, genuinely happy. For the first time in what felt like eons.
Friday night, and moods in the Lupin household were calm. As usual, Remus was sitting on the sofa, reading quietly, while Tonks had her head resting on his lap, watching TV. Tonks being Tonks, she was watching Kerrang TV. Remus didn't really mind, but he wasn't exactly fond of that style of music.
It was getting pretty late, and Remus was fighting to keep his eyes open. Marking his place in his book, Remus sighed.
"I think it's time for me to go to bed now." Remus yawned. "Shall you be staying here?"
Tonks nodded, snuggling into his lap further, wishing him to stay. Smiling down at her, Remus tapped her shoulder wanting Tonks to move, but she didn't.
"Can't you sleep here? I don't want to move." Tonks mumbled.
"The sofa isn't comfy, Tonks. I need to sleep on a bed." Remus said. "Come on Tonks, just move your head."
Shifting further down the sofa so Remus could stand. She placed a cushion under her head before laying down again.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Remus whispered. He bent down and kissed Tonks gently on the lips, brushing her hair from her face. She smiled as he walked out the room before turning her attention back to the TV.
Remus trudged sleepily upstairs, his eyes hardly managing to stay open. Taking his shirt off, he lay under the covers on his side, hugging the covers tightly, burying his face in them. The full moon was in two nights time, and he was already feeling Moony stirring inside him. It wasn't long until he drifted off into sleep, but it didn't last long.
As hard as she tried, Tonks simply couldn't get comfortable on the sofa. The cushion was making her neck sore, and it didn't feel right without Remus sleeping next to her. Reluctantly, she switched off the TV and basically crawled up the stairs. The door to their room was open slightly, as were the curtains. The eerie silver light from the moon flowed in like a soft blanket.
Being as quiet as it was possible for her, Tonks changed into her pj's and slipped into bed behind Remus. He was still sleeping on his side, and she placed an arm around his waist, spooning him. Her soft touch woke his.
"Mmh ... what?" Remus yawned.
"Nothing, I'm just joining you." Tonks whispered back.
Remus groaned before trying to go back to sleep. But the feel of Tonks's arm hanging limply over his waist was making it hard to relax. Rolling over, Remus turned to kiss her, but seeing her face, he screamed and jumped back from her, turning the lights on while doing so.
"Tonks!?" Remus cried.
But Tonks didn't hear him. She was too busy crying with laughter. Tonks was laughing so hard from his reaction, that she fell backwards off the bed and onto the floor with a heavy thump. Gasping, Remus hurried over to help her, but she was fine. Just giggling on the floor, her face back to normal.
"Your face was hilarious." Tonks laughed, looking up at her scowling husband. "And you scream like a girl."
Sighing, Remus lay beside her on the floor. She smiled over at him, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"Yes well, you would too if you were wanting to kiss your wife, and found Snape lying in bed next to you instead." Remus chuckled lightly.
"Well, I thought you needed a laugh, looked like it anyway." Tonks said, finally calmed down.
"Thank you. After getting over the shock, it is pretty funny." Remus said. "But you can't make your face like that, not after ..."
"After Dumbledore died, I know. But it was the first thing I could think of." Tonks yawned.
Opening his arms, Remus let Tonks rest her head on his chest, his arms wrapped around her.
"You know, we should probably get back on the bed. Though the floor is comfy, it's cold." Remus said after a few minutes of sweet silence.
"But I like lying down here with you. And I don't want to move." Tonks mumbled into his shoulder. Rolling on top of him, she put on her best sad face and looked him straight in the eyes. Unable to say no, Remus agreed and soon they lay on the floor, a pillow under his head and a cover over the two of them. Tonks still lay on him, gazing at his relaxed face.
"I love you a lot, you know." Tonks said quietly.
"I do." Remus said before closing his weary eyes.
"You know, the correct response is, yes Tonks I love you too." Tonks said in a high voice. "But fine, whatever."
"I don't sound like that." Remus chuckled. "And I love you too Tonks."
Opening his eyes, he noticed how close her face was to his. Tonks picked this up as well. And placing a hand gently on the side of his face, she brought him closer and brushed her lips over his, making him shiver. Not wanting to wait any longer, Remus closed the short distance and kissed her softly on the lips.
It was a beautiful moment, just them. All the danger and horror forgotten about. In that moment, it was just them.
"Night Remus." Tonks whispered as their lips eventually parted.
"Good night Tonks." Remus said.
Tonks settled herself into the curve of his body, letting her head rest just under his chin. Remus kept his arms firmly around her, not wanting to let her go.
They drifted off to sleep together not too long after. It was times like those that Remus saw the true beauty in love. Tonks had taught him that people do love him. People do accept him. He should accept himself.
She gave him all he had ever wanted in life; love....

So I might have completely forgotten and lost interest in 'Just Imagine', so it'll be back to normal HC's for now.
