My latest sewing project

After just like, 2 and a half months, maybe more, of loving Crimson Peak, I decided I wanted to do a cosplay of Edith. I said I would build it off of a nightgown in my Cosplans book, but McCall's patterns was having a sale on this pattern for only 5 dollars, plus a 10 dollar shipping fee. It was 75% off so I decided, "eh, what the hell?"

After eleven days (because of staffing shortages in their warehouses), the pattern arrived and I immediately went to work. After all, I had a whole set of old sheets that were just perfect.

I pinned the pattern pieces, went to theatre, came back, rearanged the pattern pieces cause I forgot folds were a thing, and started to sew... Once I figured out how interfacing worked and realized I needed to cut more pattern pieces. Big thanks to multi-fandom-trash- for helping me.

After a whole night of working, switching between watching Revenge of the Sith and listening to the Crimson Peak soundtrack, i had 5 hours of work done and done

Waking up early the next day, I got the ruffles on the bottom done (sewing lace is my own personal circle of hell).

I skipped a day cause I had stuff to do and I needed a break cause this shit ain't easy, and continued on the next day. I sewed the skirt, forgot to make the sleeve holes, ripped half the skirt seam off, and sewed one sleeve on (and it looks ghetto as fuck lol)

Then that night, I sewed the other sleeve on

There's tule under the tops of the sleeves to make them poofy. They're not the sleeves we see in the movie (not by a long shot) but to be fair, these would be hard af to pull off if you're not a professional:

I spent the whole next day hemming the bottom and sewing 21 buttons by hand (first time using the button hole setting on my machine) and holy JESUS that took ages. I watched Battlefront 2 videos the whole time.

Then the nightgown was effectively done! After a suggestion by my mother, I tried to wear it to sleep that night cause technically it's pyjamas. But my room is a damn sauna year round, so that was short lived. After another three days, the wig came and the look for the majority of the movie was complete

Then, just today, just over a couple of weeks later, I decided to take it a step further.

I was gonna wait to do this for Halloween cause I spent so long on the cosplay that I didn't wanna screw it up. But today I woke up and I was like "let's do it today" for literally no reason.

After two separate trips to Hobby Lobby (cause Michaels was out of dye) because one can of spray dye wasn't enough initially,
She's been bloodied and clay-ed (cos technically the bottom is clay that's the exact same shade as blood, but whatever)

I'm gonna most likely need to wash it soon (the dye said after 72 hours), and I'm TERRIFIED of that because sometimes my washing machine catches on stuff and can rip fabric and seams. Since there's lots of loose threads, lace, and my general messy stitches, I'm scared the machine's gonna mess it up.

Oh well, maybe I can shove it in a drawstring bag and let it do it's thing there.

But I'm ridiculously happy with how this came out. Several hours/days worth of work really payed off. Here's hoping my local comic con isn't cancelled again next year and I can wear it then.
