Wade kept his word, showing up later with a large cheese pizza. Instead of his normal suit, he wore a hoodie and sweatpants. He still wore his mask. You hung out in your bedroom, as you still weren't comfortable going downstairs yet.
"So...you're sure you cleaned everything?" you asked.
"Of course," Wade replied as he grabbed another slice of pizza.
"And the cops won't somehow trace any of this to me?"
"Darling, they wouldn't be able to if they tried. Besides, if they do, I'll totally be there to save your ass," he reassured you with a shrug.
You chuckled. Wade was such a dork, but you liked that about him. You'd only known each other for about 24 hours, but you were really beginning to feel a connection with him. He saved your life. How could you ever repay him for that?
And then it hit you.
Payment.
You'd totally forgotten about it, and it seemed as if Wade had as well. You may have been able to get away with not paying him, but it just didn't feel right after all he did for you.
"Hey, um, Wade?"
"Yeah, sweetcheeks?"
"I was thinking, and, uh, how exactly would you want me to pay you?"
He froze for a moment, seeming to think it over in his mind.
Wade shook his head. "How about we think about that later, okay? Right now, it's just me, you, and this delicious ass pizza."
You laughed. "Yeah, okay, that sounds good."
You sat there and talked for hours, and you didn't even realize how late it had gotten until the room was almost pitch black. You glanced at the clock.
"Damn, it's already almost midnight?! Time really flies when you're having fun," you mused, then yawned.
"Tired?" Wade chuckled. You nodded. He stood up and stretched. "Alright, well, I guess I should get going then."
"Mmmm noooo," you whined out tiredly.
"Oh?"
"You should stay another night..." you said. "I...I'd feel safer if you did."
"Hey, that creepo is dead. You're totally safe," Wade reassured you, coming back to sit beside you on the bed. You sat up near the headboard, your knees up to your chest and your arms wrapped around them.
"I know," you sighed, "but I just don't feel safe here anymore. So," you paused, grabbing onto his sleeve and looking up at him with pleading eyes, "stay?"
Wade stared at you for a few seconds. "God, you're cute," he muttered. You blushed. "Alright, well, if you need me here that much, I guess I can stay on your floor again."
You blinked. "Oh, uh, yeah, the floor..." you trailed off, disappointed for some reason. Of course it would be weird to ask for him to sleep on the bed with tou. Even so, all you wanted was for him to be as close as possible.
"Oh?" Wade inquired. "Did you...not want me to sleep on the floor?"
"No," you mumbled. "I was hoping, maybe...you'd sleep with me?"
"Oh, I see. I save your life and you wanna get in my pants," Wade laughed.
Your face flared up. "Wha-- No! That's not what I meant, jerkwad!"
Wade chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm just messing with you. Alright, princess, your knight is under your command." You laughed at his response. He pulled off his hoodie, leaving himself in a T-shirt, and tossed it onto the makeshift bed you hadn't bothered to clean up.
"Oh, I invite you to stay and you think you can throw your things wherever you want?" you teased him.
"I can move it if--"
"No, Wade, I'm kidding," you laughed. He chuckled softly, moving up beside you. He lied down, resting his arms behind his head on the pillow.
"You're gonna have to tell me where you got this mattress from," Wade said, snuggling into the covers. "This might be the softest bed I've ever been in." You snickered and lied down beside him.
You looked over at him, feeling your face heat up again. "Hey, so, do you mind if..." You fiddled with your hands, wondering why this guy made you so shy and nervous all of a sudden.
Wade opened up his arms, almost as if he'd read your mind. "C'mon, bring it in," he said, and you, of course, snuggled right up to him. He wrapped his arms around you, immediately bringing a sense of safety to wash over you.
"Thank you," you whispered. "Just...for everything."
"Well, it's my job."
"Wade," you said, lifting your head to look him in the eye (well, as best you could with his mask), "without you, I don't even want to think of what would have happened. You saved my life. I don't think I could ever thank you enough."
"You're too nice to me," he mumbled. He pulled you in closer, burying his face in the crook of your neck. And there you both stayed, falling asleep in each other's embrace.
You awoke a bit confused, as you weren't used to having someone else in your bed. Wade's arms around you brought you comfort, and you snuggled into him again. And just like yesterday, you felt the rumble in his chest as Wade chuckled. "Is this gonna be routine now? Not that I'm complaining, though." However, unlike yesterday, you decided to stay exactly where you were.
"I wouldn't mind if it was," you mumbled.
"Woahoho, there, correct me if I'm wrong, but is this your way of asking me out?"
You pulled back to look at his face. "And what if it is?"
"You sure you could handle all this?"
"I trust you to keep me safe."
"Wait, you're being serious?"
"Are you not?"
"Well, I tend to scare people away."
"I'm still here, aren't I?"
Wade scoffed. "Yeah, well, you haven't seen my face."
You paused, bringing your hand up to his cheek. "Can I...Can I see it then?" Wade sat up, bringing you along with him. He seemed uncertain. "Wade, after all that's happened, do you really think you'd scare me away now?" He sighed in response.
"Okay," he whispered. Cautiously, he grabbed your other hand and brought it up to his other cheek. You took that as a sign that he wanted you to do the honors. You moved your hands to get your thumbs under the bottom of the mask, slowly lifting it up to where it rested just above his forehead. He looked at you with worry-filled eyes, searching for your reaction.
You brought your hands back down to his cheeks and smiled softly. "Well this makes it way easier to kiss you," you mused. His face changed from worry to brief surprise, and then he smiled.
"What are you waiting for then?"
You didn't need any more convincing. You pulled him in for a slow, soft kiss. You pulled away after a brief moment and took a deep breath. "Could you...stay here?" you asked.
"I thought I already was?"
"No I mean...stay here? Keep me safe?" you rephrased. You smiled. "Keep up this routine we've started?"
Wade grinned. "Yeah. Yeah, I think I could do that."
