You joined the literature club a little later than MC did. He hadn't even been in the club that long, and already all the other girls were fawning over him. You weren't interested.

Almost immediately you were drawn to Monika. She just seemed so...interesting. Over the course of the next few days, you began to have feelings for her. But you could tell she was only interested in MC.

You really enjoyed the club and all it's members, and for a while everything was going great.

Then one day, things went wrong.

You seemed to have gone back in time somehow, and were back to before you had really considered joining the club. It was concerning, to say the least.

You joined the club that day, but it was off. Monika seemed surprised, but only brushed it off. Halfway through the club meeting, you noticed Sayori still wasn't there. So you decided to ask Monika about it.

"Hey, Monika?" you asked as you approached her.

"Yes, (Y/N)?" she responded in her usual cheery tone.

"Do have any idea where Sayori is? I noticed she wasn't here yet, so I was curious," you asked.

Monika noticeably tensed. "I...I don't know what you're talking about," she said, her voice quavering a bit.

"You know, Sayori? Vice president? Sweetest girl I've ever met?" you said. What was going on?

"H-how...I..." Monika stuttered, looking panicked. Suddenly, she grabbed your wrist and dragged you out to the hallway.

"How do you know about Sayori?" she asked. She seemed really panicked and kinda...scared.

"What do you mean?" you asked. "I don't understand! First my whole week starts over, and now suddenly everybody forgets Sayori?"

Monika looked even more stunned. "But...I deleted her! You shouldn't be able to...I'm just going to have to fix you," she sighed, then seemed to go into her own world. You were incredibly confused. Deleted? Fix you??

"I don't understand!" she suddenly cried. "You're not in any files! Who are you?!" Her grip on your wrist tightened, and you winced slightly.

"Monika, I'm just (Y/N)! What's going on? Why are you talking about files and deleting and all this weird stuff?!" you replied, beginning to freak out yourself.

"You can remember, but you don't even realize our reality?" she asked, confused. She seemed to have possibly calmed a bit. She moved her arms to grip your shoulders. "We live inside of a video game, (Y/N)!" she cried, eyes brimming with tears.

She fell onto her knees, tears beginning to stream down her cheeks. "What am I going to do if MC chooses you? He's supposed to be mine!" she cried quietly. That broke your heart. All she wanted was MC.

"Monika, I'm not even interested in him," you practically whispered, but she still heard you.

"Y-you're not?" she asked, and you felt your stomach turn. You had to tell her. You knew she wouldn't return your feelings, but you had to tell her.

You shook your head. "No, I...I don't like MC. I like you, Monika," you confessed. She stared at you wide eyed for a moment, then began to giggle. Which turned into full blown laughter.

Slowly, her laughter died down, and she looked up at you again. "That's impossible," she said. You could hear the sadness in her voice even though she was smiling. "The game isn't built that way. Nobody's supposed to fall in love with me."

You thought for a moment. It hurt you to see her like this. This wasn't the Monika you were used to.

"Well, you said I'm not a part of the game right? I don't have any files or whatever?" you began, feeling a bit more confident. "The game doesn't control me. I-I could be a glitch or something, it doesn't matter. Point is, I really like you, even if you only love MC. But if the game is like you said, he's never going to return your feelings."

Monika just stared at you before looking down at the ground. "Huh..." was all she mumbled before you woke up in bed again.

She'd started the game over again.

You joined the club for a third time, which was really weird to think about, and noticed Sayori was back. Everybody was acting normal again.

Once the meeting was over, everybody left except you and Monika. She'd asked for you to hang back for a moment.

"(Y/N), I want to thank you," she said, smiling genuinely. "I was stupid, and I realize that now. I shouldn't chase after someone that I know could never love me. I think...I think we can just all be happy being normal. Without messing with the game."

You smiled back at her. "Yeah, I think everyone will like that."
