You'd known Elsa for ages. Probably about since middle school. You two were always really close, and you were one of the few people she trusted enough to tell about her powers. It was definitely a shock at first, but you never thought of her any different for it.
You guys were there for each other through everything. Your first relationships. Your first heartbreaks. And all of the ones after those. You both came out to each other at about the same time, when Elsa figured out that the problem with her relationships was just that she didn't like guys that much.
So, yeah, you guys were close.
Things didn't really change much until about senior year. That was the year to started having feelings for her. You kept it all bottled up, since you didn't want to make things weird between the two of you. Until one sleepover where you got so tired you spilled everything before passing out. Elsa stayed up most of the night processing that.
The next morning, you remembered none of confessing your feelings, so when Elsa began asking you about it, you died a little inside.
It all turned out in your favor, however, when Elsa admitted to having a crush on you for a few years. And so that was how you got the girlfriend of your dreams.
Anna was incredibly accepting. She was always so nice to you and absolutely loved teasing you guys about each other.
You and Elsa also decided to go to the same college, signing up to be roommates with each other. You'd have the occasional fight and whatnot, but things still went pretty good between you.
After graduating, you found a small house together and got jobs. Life was just great. Almost like a fairytale, you always thought.
Then came your sixth anniversary, which is where our story really begins.
You'd been waiting for this day for forever. It had to be absolutely perfect. It was finally the day you'd worked up the nerve to propose to her. After a whole day of romance and whatnot, though.
You'd had the day off, while Elsa had to work, which gave you time to get ready. You made sure you had all the snacks and movies ready for the movie marathon later on, and then went to your room to put on a nice outfit for the dinner you had reserved at a local fancy restaurant. Making sure you had the ring tucked away in a pocket, of course.
You'd gotten her a gift to open before you went to dinner. It wasn't really much, but you'd put your heart and soul into it. It was a little snowglobe with two little figurines of you both inside holding hands. Etched on the little stand was "True love will thaw a frozen heart." You thought it was a cute idea.
Elsa came home around 5:30ish. You greeted her at the door with a peck on the cheek. "Welcome home and happy anniversary! I've got so much planned," you said, and she smiled, letting out a small laugh.
You brought out the gift and handed it to her. "I made you a little something. It's not perfect, but I hope you like it," you explained.
"You know I love any gift you give me," she chuckled and unwrapped it. She grinned once she saw it. "I love it, (Y/N). It's amazing, just like you," she praised, kissing your cheek. You smiled back at her. Little things like this just made you love her more.
"I'm glad you like it. Now go put on something nice! I'm taking you to dinner," you announced, and she laughed before going to get dressed.
She came out in your favorite of all her dresses: an off the shoulder, sparkly, blue dress that went down to about her knees. There was a slit in the right side of the skirt part, which itself was loose and flowy while the top part was a bit tighter.
By god how you loved that dress.
Elsa smiled as you linked your arm with hers and led her out to the car. You drove to the restaurant, got your table, and ordered your drinks.
You tried a few times to make your move, but luck was definitely not on your side.
"So, uh, Elsa," you began, but weren't able to finish. Somehow you moved your arm wrong and knocked over your drink. You apologized profusely and helped the waiter clean it up.
On the second try, you ended up gesturing too hard with your fork and flinging food in her face. She laughed and waved it off, even though you apologized endlessly.
On the third try, you were interrupted by a commotion. Everyone was applauding and cheering. Apparently another couple had decided to propose that day. After that, you couldn't do it. You didn't want to seem like a copy cat, and besides, fate decided not to let you do it any other time.
So you both enjoyed the rest of your dinner, though you weren't quite as energized as you once were. Elsa didn't seem to notice, and if she did, she didn't say anything.
After you paid the bill, you both hopped back into the car and drove home. It was a bit of a quiet car ride, maybe a few words said here and there, but you just didn't feel like talking.
But then it hit you. Maybe you could try again at home. Less distractions, and there probably wouldn't be too much that could really go wrong. That brought back some hope, and your mood changed for the better.
You walked inside and gestured toward the living room. "Okay, so I got us all set up for a marathon of some of our favorite movies. Buuut before we do that, I have something to say," you announced, grabbing her hands. She hummed in response, signaling you to continue. Butterflies were fluttering wildly in your stomach, but you continued on.
"Elsa, we've known each other for years, and in those years, the times with you have been the best moments of my entire life. And I want to spend so many more amazing moments with you in the future. So, what I'm trying to say here is..." you took a deep breath, knelt down on one knee, and took out the ring. "Elsa, will you marry me?"
She looked shocked for a moment, and then she began giggling, which turned into laughter. Anxiety leaped in your chest. Did she think it was a joke? Was she laughing at your pitiful attempt?
She seemed to notice, and quickly began to reassure you. "I-I'm not laughing at you! I just..." she paused to take a small box from her purse. She opened it, showing a ring. "I had the same idea," she said.
A smile crept onto your face, and soon you were both laughing, a few stray tears of happiness sliding down your faces. You stood up and hugged her, and she returned the gesture. After a moment you pulled away a small bit and kissed her. She happily returned it.
"I love you so much," you said, a small laugh escaping your lips.
She smiled gently. "I love you most," she replied.
The rest of most of that night was spent cuddling on the couch, watching movies, eating snacks, and stealing a small kiss every now and then, all until you eventually fell asleep.
This had definitely been an anniversary to remember.
