About a week had passed since Gabriel had first visited you, and you were bored beyond belief. So, despite your better judgment, you prayed to him.
"Uh, hey Gabriel. Don't know if you can hear me right now, but I'm in need of your assistance," you said out loud, closing your eyes. Immediately you heard a flutter of wings behind you. You turned around, and there stood the archangel himself.
"Just couldn't get enough of me, huh?" he said, giving his signature grin. "Also, while I'm here, feel free to just say Gabe. Not permission I grant to many." You rolled your eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, ya dork. Look, I just wanted some company, is that too much to ask?" you laughed.
"I'm honored you'd choose me, Cupcake," he chuckled. "But do you really not have anyone else you could call? Or am I just that special?" Your smile faltered, and you could tell he noticed. "Oh," he said quietly, his smile dropping from his face. You looked off sideways to the ground.
"Look, let's not get all 'feelings' about it. All my friends are gone and have lost touch, it's simple as that. I'm fine," you said. You tried to keep an even tone, but, unfortunately, your voice just had to crack.
He looked at you sympathetically. "Look, Cupcake, we both know nobody means it when they say 'I'm fine'. I'm... sorry for bringing it up," he said. You gave him a small smile.
"It's fine," you said, then realized ypu had just contradicted what he had said. "Sorry," you mumbled, and looked back at the floor.
Suddenly you felt strong arms wrap around you, and you looked up in surprise. Gabe was hugging you. "You don't have to be sorry for anything that's not your fault," he mumbled near your ear, and you broke. You wrapped your arms around him and sobbed. It didn't even matter that you barely knew him, it was just good to finally get all those feelings out.
He rubbed circles on your back, holding you tightly as you clutched onto him. "I-I'm just so... scared o-of being l-l-lonely," you managed between your choked sobs.
"Shh, shh, I know Sugar," he whispered.
And so you stood there like that for a while, you sobbing as he quietly reassured you. Eventually your sobs subsided, and you were just hiccuping, trying to calm down. When you felt okay enough, yoy pulled away from Gabe's grip. "I-I think I'm feeling better now. Thanks Gabe," you said quietly.
He smiled at you, a genuine smile, and wiped the lingering tears from your face with his thumb. "Of course, Cupcake. Here, let me tell you a little thing I've never really told anyone," he said. He sat down on the couch, and grabbed your wrist to pull you down beside him. "I am terrified of being all alone, same as you. But I want you to know that you are never alone. I'm always here if you ever need me. Just call and I'll be right by your side," he finished.
"That's a lot for someone you barely know," you replied, laughing lightly.
"It's enough for a friend," he said. Without thinking, you wrapped your arms around him for another hug. Almost immediately, he hugged back.
"Thank you," you whispered.
"Anything for you," he mumbled back.
You felt like you wanted to stay in that hug forever. He was so warm and comforting, and it just felt right. You heard Gabe chuckle, feeling his chest rumble. "Aww, I'm glad you think that way, Cupcake," he laughed, and you felt your face immediately heat up. Quickly, you pulled away from the hug.
"Gabe! S-stay out of my thoughts!" you yelled at him, only for him to laugh more.
"There's the (Y/N) I know and love," he chuckled, and you felt your face heat up even more. Damn, why did you have to blush so easily?!
Gabe laughed again, and you groaned. "Look, I called you here to have some company and whatever, can we just do something now?" He raised an eyebrow, smirking.
"Would you like to do something, or someone?" he purred, wiggling his eyebrows. You blushed furiously.
"Sh-shut up!" you yelled, looking away.
"Alright, alright," Gabe laughed. You shook your head.
"Honestly, I can't believe I decided to be friends with you," you joked, to which he chuckled.
You hung out for the rest of day. The whole day was filled with corny jokes and Gabe's attempts at flirting, but you also learned more about each other. You really felt like you were beginning to build a strong bond.
Weeks passed, then months, and you began to hang out more and more frequently. And somewhere along the way, you fell for him. Hard. You didn't slowly come to realize this either. One day after you had hung out, it just hit you. Like, 'BAM, oh my god, I have a crush on him' kind of thing. It started small, but it only grew. You were kind of obsessed, in a way. Every little thing he did just made your heart speed.
And oh god, you bet he knew. He could read minds for crying out loud! But he never said anything. And it was slowly eating you inside.
"H-hey Gabe! (Y/N) again. I was wondering if-" you didn't even have to finish your sentence. Immediately you heard the familiar sound of wings. You grinned and turned around.
"Heya, Sweetcheeks," he said, and seemed to grin wider at your smile. "You sure are happy to see me," he laughed.
You blushed. "Well, yeah, my best friend is here, why wouldn't I be happy?" you laughed, and gestured toward the couch. "Come sit, why don'tchya?" you said, and sat down. He sat down beside you, incredibly close. Way closer than normal.
You could feel your heartbeat race. Damn, why did you have to feel these things?
Gabe faced you completely, an arm draped behind you on the back of the couch. You looked up at his eyes, silent, searching them for something. Finally, he spoke.
"Hey, Sugar," he smiled with half-lidded eyes. "I couldn't help but hear a few thoughts from you lately."
This was it. This was where you died. Figuratively, of course, but still just as painful. He chuckled. "You're too cute for your own good, you know that?"
He put his other hand beneath your chin, lifting it slightly. You felt like your heart was going to beat right out of your chest. "I hope you know," he said, his voice dropping in volume, "that I, in every way, share those thoughts with you. From the day I met you, I've wanted to say just how much I like you."
You knew your face was no doubt a deep red. You didn't know what to do, but it turned out you didn't have to. Slowly, Gabe leaned in, and your lips touched. You melted into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck. You had imagined this moment so many times, but this was so much better than you could ever imagine.
He pulled away, much too soon in your opinion. He looked at you and smirked. "Like I said, too damn adorable," he said quietly. You searched for words, but nothing seemed to come out.
"I love you," you finally blurted out.
"I know," he responded, and leaned in to kiss you again.
