Doctor Meets Jedi (Part One)
Caroline's blue eyes snapped up from the book she was reading as the doorbell rang annoyingly downstairs.
"Shut up." She cried, jumping up from her position on the bed and looking out the small window. Pushing some of her semi-short red hair behind her ear, she glanced at the long gravel driveway, where a black suburban had just pulled up. Sighing, she plopped back onto her bed and opened the light blue book, pushing her plastic-rimmed glasses further up on her nose. Who cares if her parents had company over? It's not like they'd be up in her room for any reason.
Earlier that week, Caroline's mother had become friends with another woman at work... Which naturally meant that she invited the woman's entire family over. Naturally, this didn't phase Caroline all that much. Usually when somebody came over, it was all adult business. Nobody her age ever came to the house. Ever.
Just as she was about to adjust her headphones however, her mother's voice called up the stairs and drifted through the cracks in her closed door.
"Caroline! Come down and say hello!" she yelled, and Caroline sighed. This never went well: usually somebody made some snide remark about her TARDIS tank top, or commented rudely about the books she read. Slowly sliding a black hoodie over her top and zipping it up, she made her way down the hallway, walking quietly down the stairs and into the living room. Her mother and father were sitting on the love couch, while six other random strangers mulled about the room. Caroline had no idea where her three siblings had gotten to; probably outside messing around with a soccer ball.
A man and a woman occupied the couch across from her mother and father, both seemingly in their early forties. The four of them chatted easily, occasionally breaking out in laughter. Two young boys and a girl played on the rug spread across the floor, arguing over some toy cars. The girl appeared to be the oldest of the trio at twelve, with dark brown hair and green eyes. The second eldest had light brown hair and blue eyes; Caroline judged him to be nine or ten at least. The youngest seemed to be four or so, with very light brown, almost blonde hair and blue eyes.
That was when Caroline's own blue eyes drifted to the sixth person in the room; a girl who appeared to be about her age. She had long, light brown hair and blue eyes that were outlined with rectangular shaped, plastic-rimmed glasses.
Unfortunately, Caroline was spotted by her mother and forced to make herself known. Her mother beckoned her over and made her stand directly beside her.
"Jill, Scott, this is my eldest daughter Caroline." Her mother introduced, nodding to each of the adults in turn. The woman, who had dark hair and green eyes like her younger daughter, smiled kindly at Caroline. The man, who also had dark hair but possessed blue eyes, waved energetically.
Caroline raised her hand and wiggled her fingers slightly, still a bit nervous.
"This is Ashley, Ethan and Morgan." Her mother continued, introducing each of the children on the floor in order of age. They each looked up at the mention of their name, but then quickly looked down again, resuming their bickering. Caroline mentally rolled her eyes.
"Kids." She thought, and turned her attention around to the other girl, who stood with her back to the crowd, staring out the window.
"This is Emily," her mother said, standing and crossing the room to lay a hand on the girl's shoulder. The girl visibly flinched, but quickly recovered and allowed herself to be steered towards everyone else, her hands shoved deep into the pockets of her jeans. Caroline couldn't help but notice that she also wore a hoodie that was zipped up all the way; only this one was a bright, teal blue.
"I think she's your age," the woman on the couch, Jill, spoke up. "She's fifteen."
"I'm sixteen." Caroline said softly, uncomfortably shoving some hair out of her face and biting the inside of her cheek. Emily rubbed her right arm with her left, placing her weight on one foot to the other in turn.
Both of the mother's seemed to pick up on the air of tension in the room, and they both said, "Why don't you girls go up to Caroline's room?"
Emily shifted her gaze for a fleeting second up to Caroline's, then flitted her eyes back to the floor. Caroline sighed and nodded. "Come on," she said, leading the way out of the living room and up the stairs.
"You don't have to, if you don't want to." Emily said quietly as she followed. Caroline paused mid-step and looked behind her.
"What else would we do? Go back down and listen to them chat about how gasoline prices have raised five cents?"
This earned her a laugh from Emily, and Caroline smiled slightly. Maybe this girl wouldn't be so bad after all.

Finally in Caroline's room a couple minutes later, the two girls were standing awkwardly at opposite ends of the room, fiddling with their hands.
"So," Emily said, drawing out the word.
"Soooo what?" Caroline asked, drawing out the word as well and copying her. Emily shrugged and moved to the window, but her eyes caught sight of the book lying on the bed.
"You read this stuff?" Emily asked, holding up Caroline's copy of Myths and Legends of Space. Caroline's face reddened and she turned away in embarrassment.
"Y-yeah, so what if I do?"
Emily grinned. "Because so do I!" she cried, reaching into her blue backpack slung across her shoulder and pulling out a thick novel, handing it to Caroline proudly.
"Star Wars?" Caroline read out loud, almost unable to believe what she was seeing.
"Yup! I'm a total space and science-fiction nerd," Emily confessed, shoving one hand into her pocket and pulling out a silver chain. "See? I've even got the TARDIS." She admitted sheepishly, unwrapping her fingers to reveal a blue Police Box charm strung on the chain.
Caroline felt her eyes widen and a grin spread widely across her face. "I've got the earrings!" She exclaimed, bouncing across her room and pulling open her jewelry box, flourishing two Police Box earrings. Emily laughed.
"That's so cool!"
"You think so?" Caroline laughed, sliding the earrings into her ears. "They were a present from my mom for my birthday."
"Same here!" Emily said, clasping the necklace around her neck. Suddenly, she snapped her fingers. "Fantastic!" she exclaimed, unzipping her hoodie. "That means I don't have to hide this anymore!"
When she removed the hoodie, a blue t-shirt was revealed. Printed on it was a picture of Doctor Who and Darth Vader in fighting stances, with a caption beneath that read: "WHEN THE DOCTOR MEETS THE EMPIRE" in black letters.
Caroline laughed and unzipped her own hoodie, revealing her TARDIS tank top. Both girls laughed together for several more seconds, until they were clutching their sides.
"Finally!" Emily said eventually, chuckling. "I thought I'd never find someone like me!"
Caroline took a deep breath, stifling more fits of laughter. "S-same here," she said, trying desperately to compose herself. "There are some girls at school, but we don't tend to talk about it much."
"Exactly!" Emily agreed, bobbing her head up and down. Caroline sat down on her bed, and patted the space next to her for Emily to occupy. The girls say in silence for a minute, until suddenly Caroline asked a strange question.
"Do you hear that whirring noise?"
"I thought I might've been going crazy," Emily said, looking around for the source of the noise. Suddenly something clicked in Caroline's mind, and she stood up, her head darting back and forth as she looked around the room.
"There's only one thing I know that makes that noise."
Not long after that phrase had been uttered, however, a blue box appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the bedroom. And not just any old box.
The TARDIS.
Caroline and Emily jumped up, Emily shoving the two books into her backpack and turning to face the TARDIS. Both girls waited expectantly for some form of life to come from the box, but when none came, they shrugged and simultaneously walked forward. Caroline placed a hand on the doorknob and turned it slowly, opening the door and stepping in with Emily right behind her.
It was everything they could've imagined it would be. The box was bigger on the inside, with flashing lights and a large control panel positioned in the dead center of the room. There was no mistaking; this was the one and only TARDIS. And that meant the Doctor couldn't have been far behind.
"Hello?" Caroline called, and suddenly a loud clanging was heard from behind the controls. A head poked its way around the structure and smiled at the two girls.
"'Bout time you two showed up. I've been waiting forever!" The man cried, flailing his arms about dramatically. Emily and Caroline widened their eyes; there was no mistaking that the very man before them was the eleventh Doctor.
"About time we showed up?" Caroline mimicked, folding her arms across her chest and narrowing her eyes. "You mean you've been expecting us?"
The Doctor bounced his head up and down, nodding vigorously and striding across the floor to shake first Emily's hand, then Caroline's. At a quick glance, Caroline saw that Emily'e mouth was slightly agape, and her eyes were wide.
"You mean, you're the Doctor?" She asked, still in awe. The Doctor grinned.
"Yup! Good to know that you know who I am. That shortens the introductions." he said, releasing Caroline's hand and walking back to the central control system. Caroline and Emily edged closer to each other, looking about the space they had unexpectedly become enclosed in.
"What exactly are we doing here?" Caroline asked hesitantly, waving her hand in a circular motion. The Doctor pressed a button on the panel and pulled a lever, resulting in the TARDIS making a loud whirring noise.
"You're going to help me." He said simply as the noise stopped and he walked across the floor once more to the door. He opened it and ushered the girls out.
Caroline and Emily gasped simultaniously as the surveyed the scene before them. Stormtroopers in crisp white armor marched through equally spotless corridors, weapons in hand. A window was the only thing that added any character to the room, and the girls ran to it, staring out into space.
Literally. They were staring into space. Blackness was spotted with white stars, and spaceships cruised lazily across the blankness. Planets of strange, unknown origin were scattered about, orbiting their moons. The girls slowly turned to the Doctor, who was grinning enormously.
He had brought them to the heart of a space ship, in the middle of an intergalactic war. Star Wars, if you wanted to be precise.
"Hey!" A stormtrooper suddenly yelled, marching across the perfect floor to where Caroline, the Doctor, and Emily stood. "Follow me." he ordered, and two of his buddies came up alongside the girls, each grabbing one of their arms. The first trooper took hold of the Doctor and began to walk away into an elevator shaft, the girls being foced to follow by the other two troopers.
This was not going to end well.
