You always had an eye for things that glittered
But I was far from bein' made of gold
I don't know how but I scraped up the money
I just never could quite tell you no
Just like when you were leavin' Amarillo
To take that new job in Tennessee
And I quit mine so we could be together
I can't forget the way you looked at me
The world of show business was a hard one, whether it be athletics or entertainment. But one thing that came with the difficult work was a heavy paycheck. This was one thing that Viktor was happy about as he left the jewelry store, his pocket both heavier and lighter- less money, and a weighing reaction. Would she love it? It was what she had wanted, Viktor noted, but lately, her reactions had been... mixed when it came to anything anymore. As he made his way back to their apartment, Viktor sighed to himself, brushing snow off of his head.
I really hope she likes this. He thought.
Opening up the door, familiar classical music sang through the thin walls of the small apartment as his love stood in the kitchen, doing mini dance routines as she cooked dinner, her (h/c) hair swaying with her. Viktor chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her waist, causing her to jump back in surprise.
"Viktor! You're back so early; dinner won't be done for another half hour." She said, turning around to embrace him.
"Then I have plenty of time to give you this then." Viktor said, taking the square box out of his pocket and opening it up, the golden chain glittering in the light of the tiny kitchen. (Y/N) gasped, covering her mouth with one hand as she looked at him.
"How did you get this? We can't afford it yet." She said, a little sad, a little happy. "You haven't had work in months."
"I was able to find a new job as an ice skating coach for a young male figure skater in Japan... it would require that we moved away though." Viktor said.
"Then let's do it. I was going to tell you this later but there's a hot springs that was looking for a receptionist, and I start in three days... I didn't want to break your heart, but I have to move anyway." (Y/N) said.
"I guess this is a good thing then, because I never want to live without you (Y/N); I love you too much to let that happen." Viktor said.
"I love you too Viktor." (Y/N) said, slipping the necklace around her neck before capturing his lips with hers.
Just to see you smile
I'd do anything
That you wanted me to
And all is said and done
I'd never count the cost
It's worth all that's lost
Just to see you smile
Two months later, the couple was settled into the hot springs/inn that (Y/N) worked at; apparently, their son was the one who Viktor would be coaching. The extra time gave (Y/N) a chance to work on her dream: becoming a professional ballerina again, something she hadn't done for a while, once her studio was burned to the ground back in Russia. Now she had a chance to get everything back, teaching classes with Yuri's, the boy Viktor was coaching, friend. All was peaceful, until it wasn't.
When you said time was all you really needed
I walked away and let you have your space
Cause leavin' didn't hurt me near as badly
As the tears I saw rollin' down your face
And yesterday I knew just what you wanted
When you came walkin' up to me with him
So I told you that I was happy for you
And given the chance I'd lie again
"I don't know Viktor! I don't know what's going on." (Y/N) said, tears in her eyes as the couple stood in their room, their expressions colder than the snow outside the building. "The studio's undergoing construction right now; so I won't be getting as much as before, just my paycheck from here. What about your money from Yuri?"
"He said he'll pay me after the seasons over; I can't change his mind." Viktor said. The couple's savings account had been unexplainably drained the previous week, and the two were unsure and mad at the disappearance of their money.
"Well we wouldn't be in this position if you had just been more responsible with the money we had saved up, instead of drinking it all away!" (Y/N) exclaimed.
"Why is everything my fault to you? Maybe it would occur to you that I haven't touched the money since we moved here? Oh wait, you're too busy being a spoiled brat to really thin-"
SLAP!
Viktor held his hand up to his cheek as the pain flew through his face. (Y/N) glared up at him.
"That's it; get out. Right now."
"Are you breaking up with me?" Viktor asked, shocked. They had had fights before, but never any that ended this bad.
"I don't know Viktor; can you just give me time to think?" (Y/N) asked.
Viktor nodded, quickly packing his things before leaving the room, crossing the building, and knocking on Yuri's door. After brief conversation, Yuri held the weeping man in his arms as he comforted his coach; his new roommate.
Two weeks passed before Viktor saw (Y/N), but the reunion was bitter sweet. She was walking into the lobby, her arms looped around another male skater- Viktor didn't know the man's name, just that he was from Canada. As the ex-lovers' eyes met, (Y/N) smiled, introducing the man to Viktor as J.J.
"I'm quite happy for you; congratulations on the relationship." Viktor said, plastering a smile on his face as he went back to his room with Yuri.
Once inside the room, Viktor collapsed, sobbing into his hands as he slid down the door onto the floor.
Just to see you smile
I'd do anything
That you wanted me to
And all is said and done
I'd never count the cost
It's worth all that's lost
Just to see you smile
It's been two years since then, since (Y/N), a now world-famous ballerina and wife of J.J., broke Viktor's heart. After that, Viktor threw himself into his career, even growing an attachment to Yuri as he went from being a coach to a lover, competing on the ice once more. (Y/N) and Viktor hadn't seen each other since that faithful day, purposefully avoiding each other before becoming swallowed by their careers.
At the last competition of the season, (Y/N) finally had a chance to see her love compete, running into the arena in her ballet uniform, colliding into someone by accident. The person fell to the ground as (Y/N) ran over to help them up, frantic.
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry I wasn't loo- Viktor?"
Viktor looked up, meeting the eyes of the last woman he loved, helping him off the ground. She truly did look stunning in her ballet outfit, every curve of her body sharp and elegant.
"Hello (Y/N)." Viktor muttered.
Before the conversation could go further, the loudspeaker turned on in a brink of static.
"Up next is Canadian skater, number three, J.J."
(Y/N) smiled brightly at mention of her lover, and turned towards the rink to watch him skate. Viktor looked at her sadly, a ghostly smile sketched across his face as he turned away, walking back over to Yuri.
"Who was that Vitya?" Yuri asked. Viktor shook his head.
"No one important." He said, before making his was back inside.
Just to see you smile
I'd do anything
That you wanted me to
And all is said and done
I'd never count the cost
It's worth all that's lost
Just to see you smile
