Harry Potter - How Does A Moment Last Forever
Song: How does a moment last forever by Céline Dion
Characters: Draco, Spirit (an Oc)
So I wanted to try writing with a fandom that, while I don't write much Harry Potter themed stuff, I felt would be a nice change. The requests are almost done, I just have some touch ups to do, so expect them soon. Also, this is (in my opinion), super cute. I think I did a good job.

How does a moment last forever?
How can a story never die?
It is love we must hold onto
Never easy, but we try
Being the only American transfer student in a British boarding school wasn't easy, especially if said student was a pure blood witch transfering into a magical British boarding school.
Spirit Loraine (Lore-ain) was said girl, and as a third year student, found everything about her new school exciting, and scary. No friends nor family, and to be on an unbalanced education, she knew, would make things harder. She had been sorted in secret, and introduced at the welcome feast by the headmaster, an older wizard named Dumbledore. She sat at the far end of her new table, in the house of Slytherin, alone, as the meal began. Taking small bites, she focused her gaze on her plate, not noticing a dip in the bench as a body slid over to her. She chewed slowly, lost in her own thoughts as a sudden tap to the shoulder brought her attention forward, gazing in suprise at the boy in front of her, his platnum blonde hair combed back and his blue eyes staring at her curiously.
"You're the new transfer student, right?" He asked.
She nodded. "Yeah, what of it?"
"What, can't a guy just introduce himself?" He asked cockily. Spirit rolled her eyes.
"With a personality like that, no." She said.
"Fiesty, nice. You'll get along well here." He said, extending his hand across the table. "I'm Draco."
Spirit bit her lip before shaking his hand. "Spirit."
They continued to chat over the meal, getting along like best friends. By the end of the night, both were tired and full of food. Draco looked over at Spirit, smiling.
"So, what do you say about being my friend?"
Spirit pondered it for a moment, before nodding. "Sure."
The two remained close all throughout that year, and now they were in their "seventh" year, after the chaos raged by the battle of Hogwarts was over, and the school reconstructed. The two blondes sat in a muggle tavern, sipping their hot drinks against the fall chill.
"Come on Draco, so you made a mistake, big deal. Finishing your education shouldn't be hurt because of a mistake." Spirit said, sipping her hot chocolate slowly. She had decided she would go back; the only trick was convincing Draco. Her heart ached for her best friend, whom made one decision to try and protect his family, himself, and later, she would learn that she was the major factor of his decision.
Through all the chaos of the battle, her few other friends, Hermonie, George, Harry, Ginny, and Luna (Ron was always an ass to her), aside from Luna, didn't understand why she retained her friendship with Draco.
They didn't get it though. They couldn't believe her heart, which she always did.
Sometimes out happiness is captured
Somehow, our time and place stand still
Love lives on inside our hearts and always will
Spirit put her hand over Draco's trembling one. "Draco... you won't be alone, going back. I'll be there too. And so will Luna." The quirky Ravenclaw had grown close with the two in their fifth year, earning themselves the nickname "The Blonde Squad", after their hair.
Draco turned towards her, his eyes sad as he pushed away his cup. "But everyone else... I've been so horrible Spirit, and I made it seem like I'm a traitor. How will anyone even let me back?"
Minutes turn to hours, days to years and gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
Spirit grew quite as a hooded figure sat down with them. She removed her hood, revealing herself as Professor McGonagall, deemed by the Ministry of Magic to be the next Hogwarts headmaster.
"Well Mr. Malfoy, I wouldn't be here if I didn't want you back at school." McGonagall said.
"Professor? How did you-" He turned towards Spirit, who wore a small smile. "You did this."
"Draco, as your best friend, I knew you would need more convincing from someone other than me. So, whom other than the headmistress herself?" She asked, turning to McGonagall. "Thank you again Professor."
After about two hours, Draco was signed up to attend Hogwarts in the coming weeks, finally completing his education. As McGonagall left, the pup's radio began to play a popular song, one Spirit remembered being played for the two of them on her phone in year four, after the Yule Ball. Spirit's date had dumped her for Draco's, and in the rush, he picked a song, asked the dj to amply the song, and offered her a dance, which she accepted.
Even now, the memory ran through both of their minds as the swayed together in the middle of the tavern, the music blaring in the background dulled to just noise as they focused on one another.
Maybe some moments weren't so perfect
Maybe some memories not so sweet
But we have to know some bad times
Or our lives are incomplete
Spirit knew Draco returning to school wasn't going to be a smooth transition, especially among the students. But really, the torment didn't start until a few weeks into the term, when the two had walked in late that Saturday morning for brunch, taking a seat at their usual table (McGonagall insisting that anyone should sit where they so please), over by the giant windows overlooking the grounds. Luna had soon joined them, talking eagerly about her penpal, who was supposedly Newt Scarramender's grandson.
But, then the chaos started.
"I still don't get why McGonagall let the bloody traitor back into the school- he picked Voledmort's side over ours! And tried to kill us, several times!" An all too familiar voice exclaimed from the table behind them. Draco looked down at his brunch sadly as Spirit rubbed his back; Luna offering a smile of encouragement to the boy. As the voice continued to talk, eventually drifting into the hall, Spirit stood up abruptly, walking out of the Great Hall in a rush. Draco and Luna looked at one another before following her.
"What the hell was that coming out of your mouth, Weasley?" Spirit exclaimed .
"The truth, something you disregard." Ron said, crossing his arms. Harry looked at Hermonie worriedly.
" Um, excuse me, but I'm not the only one holding one mistake over my friends head. "
"At least I know better to be friends with a dirty, no good, lying, blood traito-"
"HE IS JUST A BOY!" Spirit exclaimed, tears in her eyes. Ron stepped back, as everyone else backed away from the two slowly.
"You, Ronald Weasley, have NO RIGHT to talk about him like that when you don't know him! You don't know what he's been through, or what kind of friend he's been! People make tough choices to protect who they care abou-"
"Like who, cause its none of his family, and it certainly isn't you. You're as pathetic as him."
Spirit's heart snapped in two, her eyes filled with tears as she punched Ron in the face, before taking off down the hallway. Draco marched up to Ron, giving him a look that could kill.
"You can make fun of me all you want Weasel, but you crossed a line: you hurt her. All bets are off." He then turned down the hallway and ran after Spirit, his heart as broken as her's was.
Then when the shadows overtake us
Just when we feel all hope is gone
We'll hear our song and know once more
Our love lives on
Spirit ended up in the Room of Requirement, which had transformed into a wide room, with a dance floor in the center, and scattered fireplaces, couches, and other assorted comfy things around. She curled up into a ball in the darkest corner of the room, burying her head farther into herself. After a bit, the door opened and closed quietly, the room still lit only by the fireplaces.
"Spirit?" He called out cautiously, looking about the room as it carried his voice. "Where are you?"
A small sob answered his question, and he rushed to the back corner, lighting the fire higher as he saw her curled into a ball, taking in the severity of the situation.
Her hazel eyes were bloodshot and puffy, tears overflowing her eyes and down her cheeks. Her honey blonde hair was in complete disarray- something that happened when she got upset. Her short and curvy frame sat curled into a tight ball, blocking the world from her heart; her precious, caring, and now broken heart.
Draco sat down next to her, and pulled her onto his lap, hugging her tightly as he did on the rare occasion that her demons overcame her, or someone pushed her too far, as was this case. He rubbed circles on her back as her sobs echoed throughout the room.
As she began to calm down after several minutes of sobbing, Draco lifted his face to meet hers. "Feel better?"
Spirit nodded.
Draco looked towards the dance floor and smirked, getting an idea. He waved his wand and, slowly, the beginning cords of their song began to play. He stood up, and offered Spirit his hand.
"May I have this dance, my lady?"
Spirit stifled a laugh, before taking his hand. "Of course, good sir." She replied in a fancy accent.
The two let out a laugh as Draco led her out onto the dance floor, using his wand to change the scenery just a bit- changing himself into a black suit with a green and silver tie, and her into a beautiful emerald ballgown with silver sparkles. The two danced slowly, only speeding up when Draco spun her around.
How does a moment last forever?
How does our happiness endure?
Through the darkest of our troubles
Love is beauty, love is pure
"It's crazy..." Spirit muttered.
" What is? " Draco asked.
"The fact that, after all these years, we haven't changed. You're still the boy I remember becoming my friend on the first day of our third year- cocky, arrogant, sneaky-"
"Are any of those good things?"
" I'm not finished yet. You're also sweet and kind; you know how to calm me down from my biggest anger spurts, and how to comfort me when my demons become too much. " she brought her hand up to his face, and cupped his cheek. Draco smiled.
"And you're still the girl I remember seeing all alone at the end of the table- shy and insecure, but with this big, sassy and bubbly personality. Someone who, I saw a lot of myself in- and yet, I also saw the beautiful girl who's stuck by my side all these years." He moved one hand from her waist and cupped her chin.
Love pays no mind to desolation
It flows like a river through the soul
Protects, perceives, and perseveres
And makes us whole
"Draco? What are you saying?" Spirit asked, fearing she was misreading the situation. Draco said nothing, but rather, leaned down and placed his lips against hers, his hand continuing to cup her face as his eyes closed.
Spirit jumped slightly in surprise before melting into the kiss, stroking his cheek slightly as her eyes fluttered shut. Soon, they both broke away, his blue eyes meeting her hazel eyes as the looked at one another.
"Spirit, you've healed my broken heart, something that I never thought anyone could do. You're my best friend, and after everything that's happened, I realise that I'm in love with you. That I have been since we met."
" Draco... " she said softly.
"I'm not done yet." He said. " Spirit, will you be my girlfriend? Or at the very least, go out with me? "
Spirit nodded, kissing him once more.
"Yes."
The two continued to dance, their figures pulled close towards each other.
Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
"I love you Draco." Spirit said.
Draco smiled. "I love you too Spirit."
That's how a moment lasts forever;
When our song lives on.
