Avery, at first glance, is quite rude. The girl will either keep her silence, glare and spit on people, or she'll get into a fight with someone before getting pulled away (most likely by Bellamy). Avery has a grudge against most of the 100 as they were the ones that kept her hostage for quite a long time. As time goes on though, Avery's cold exterior will fall to show a nice, soft side to the grounder girl. This side is rare though, as Avery's main mentality is kill or be killed. Basically, the girl will do whatever she has to do in order to survive.

Background:
Avery grew up in her village with her mother, father, and brother. She had gone to investigate the ship that was carrying the delinquents when she saw the ship fall from the sky and crash into the earth. Avery lived in the trees as she observed the people from the sky. She did that until they caught her. The moment the delinquents had her captive, Avery kept her silence. She wouldn't dare to speak a word to them, no matter how hard they tried to get Avery to talk.

Avery is very skilled with her bow. She refuses to learn how to shoot a gun. Both Bellamy and Murphy have a nickname for Avery. Bellamy often calls Avery grounder girl, while Murphy calls Avery his guardian angel (this is due to the fact that Avery cut Murphy down from the noose before the 100 could kill him from hanging)
