Simon Cooper- Dance (a)

The Inbetweeners One Shot

"This is... alright, I guess." Simon stood firmly in the corner, bobbing back and forth whilst holding his drink closely to his chest. "Did you want to go and dance?" He gestured over to the crowded epicentre of the Rudge Park school gym, but you assured him you were just happy to be here with him, bobbing back and forth in the corner of the room.

"To be honest, I didn't think you were going to come."

"Are you mad?" Simon's buoy-like bobbing speed increased as the hired DJ, who Jay insisted should have been him, whipped the hormone infested whirlwind into a frenzy. "The last time I came to a school dance I came with Neil... I think anything is an upgrade against that."

"Oh, I see." The two of you had to shout louder and louder to compete against the thundering music. "So that's the only reason you asked me to come with you?"

"God no! No, no, no!" He finished his probably watered down, token consuming drink and crumpled the cup to his side. "Do you want me to go and get you another drink? Jay said he had managed to get a token book so we can have as many drinks as we want." It did not take much of a look for Simon to quickly realise that Jay was probably bullshitting as usual, but he still offered his last token to you. "Are you sure? I don't mind."

"No, I'm okay I don't really drink. I do however want you to tell me why you asked me as your date?"

"We're good friends... I figured if you weren't going with anyone and neither was I, it would be fun to go together... as friends."

"Good friends?" You struggled to think of a time you had done more than brushed past each other in the hall. "Outside of you very awkwardly asking me to this dance, I think the only time we've spoken to each other is when I accidentally took your box from the fridge in food tech and you almost had to send Will to come and ask me for it. I don't even think Jay could come up with that much bullshit. I like you Simon, I actually like you quite a lot and I was hoping for a good while that you would come over and tell me the same..."

"I do like you, of course I like you. I don't really think this is the place we should be having this conversation. Do you want to find somewhere that's open so we can get some food?"
