Nathan Young- Invite (c)

Misfits One Shot

Your morals weren't in the best alignment but you did your best to try and make amends for the crimes that led to you being on community service and tried to do your best to not commit anymore. Sometimes crimes needed committing though and this was one of them. You had left straight from community service to go get drinks with Alisha and Kelly, so decided to leave your rucksack in your locker, knowing you'd be back in the morning to keep up your work. The only issue was that you had forgotten that your flat keys were in the front pocket of it, not in your jacket so without the bag, you were locked out of your house.

Not planning to sleep rough, you decided to break into the community centre through a broken window into one of the offices. You thought it'd be easy to get to your locker, grab your bag and head home but you didn't count on Nathan being there wielding a hole punch as a weapon. He gave you a bit of a fright however you were pretty sure you had scared him more than he scared you.

"What are you doing here?" He hissed, lowering his hole punch.

"I left my bag and it has my keys in it," you explained. "What are you doing here?"

He paused, making a noise of thought as he tried to figure out what he was going to say to you but didn't think of a convincing lie so needed to settle on the truth for once in his life.

"I'm living here," he said, avoiding your gaze.

You cocked an eyebrow at him. "What do you mean you're living here? You're living in the community centre?"

Nathan shrugged his shoulders. "My mum changed the locks. It's actually quite freeing to be living here, vending machine food whenever I want, a bar that has a flimsy lock."

He always seemed to keep up a strong bravado, as though nothing bothered him, but you could tell this bothered him more than he would ever like to admit. He was living in a community centre and did his best to hide it from the people he sometimes considered his friends but you found out and he finally had to face the truth that came with it.

"I know I am going to regret saying this," you sighed. "I have a spare room in my flat. It's mainly used for storage and for when my sister has an argument with my parents, but you can stay at mine until you can find somewhere else."

Nathan shook his head. "Nah... I'll be okay here."

"Nathan don't be a stubborn git. What would you prefer, staying homeless in a community centre, not having substantial food, or moving in with me, getting free rent and my mediocre cooking?"

He took a moment to mull it over but ended up nodding his head. "I guess that does sound alright."

"Grab your stuff. It's late so if you're hungry I can make you some beans on toast but tomorrow I'll cook a proper meal."

You went to help him gather up his things but before you could reach where he was calling home, he stopped you, looking at you with sincerity. "Can we not tell anyone about this?"

"I wouldn't dream of it."
